GPS Selections next week. Does anybody have a potential team's for 1st's and 2nd's?
The hooker role seems to be wide open...I know that Harry Randell, who was u/16 NSW schools open side last year has been playing hooker for Kings, but he cant throw...

Agreed, any potential sides?

That's why Peter Barratt from Grammar is a show. I hope he doesn't get the usual GPS 3s token spot for Grammar boys.

Yes it's always nice to see a Grammar boy get a good spot. Have you seen him play?
Dan Herden from Scots is an option as well. A hard working, hard running hooker. Also formally an open-side.

Here's what I thought for the 1sts:
1: Alaatoa (New)
2: Barratt (Grammar)
3: Barakat (Scots) I thought the selectors might play him out of position, because I don't think they'll play him at six in front of Dempsey. He played prop for 2nds GPS/NSW last year. Scots moved him to six
4: Rorke (View)
5: Koviac (Joeys)
6: Dempsey (View)
7: Walters (Scots)
8: Wells (View).
9: Merriman (Shore)
10: Vaux (View) / Horwitz (Scots). I think their both in with a chance, just waiting to see the outcome of their next games
11: Foketi (Kings)
12: Stewart (Scots)
13: Roods (New)
14: Roye (New)
15: LeLevire (Joeys)

Not sure about Faketi at 11, hasn't he been playing at 12? Redhead wing from Shore impressed and he should be up there, not too many gun specialist wingers out there I think - probably because they invetibaly get moved to where they are more useful for the school side (Roye making 1s in Year 11 shows that this can be a bad call).

He played on the wing for the Sydney Juniors U/16 team last year when he was a fine finisher. When I saw him last month play for Kings he was a stepping, swerving, ball playing 12. He is certainly worth a shout for a GPS team. He is still in year 11; so there could be a case for starting him the Twos with his versatility making him a valuable player on the Ones bench.

But I would have no problem at all if he was named as a GPS Ones starter.

Great hands, good speed and an excellent step. Tackles ok as well. Will handle wing easily but I'd love to see him given a shot at 13.

got 1 week....

What judiciary? GPS & CAS front their headmaster& sportsmaster and get tapped on the wrist. One week suspension - covers a week of no footy at school! Sorry, but that's not a penalty.

There is a well documented example of referee abuse by a Waverley captain in an age team some years back.- it was extremely foul & abusive - suspension 1 week; ARU guidelines say 6 weeks for starters & this was a high end offence.

You all waffle on about schools thumbing their nose at their own rules apropos of scholarships (in the appropriate thread) - well this fine example of sportsmanship helps lower the bar doesn't it? Do we know what sort of tap on the wrist the shore red card drew?

they have now made it if you get a red card in a school game you are suspended from club rugby as well, and vice versa. so if you get sent off in a club game and get 3 weeks, you can't play any rugby for 3 weeks. apparently it also applies if the kid plays league and AFL as well it crosses sports but im not 100% sure of this specific fact.

I agree with you the school judiciary systems are a joke. Some schools in particular (Waverley) - do very little against serious offences as you have already pointed out. Kings are also known to show little regard to what "should" be done.

There is a GPS judiciary committe - it used to be the GPS rugby convenor plus the SPortsmasters of a couple of the other schools - but generally they give out piss weak sanctions as well.

The 2 red cards in this instance - i.e. Shore and Joeys will be one match suspensions, i.e. they won't be able to play in the next round. If it had happened in Rnd 2 the schools could have written that match off on a tour game over the holidays. Pretty crap system really! Foul play is foul play - if it deserved a length ban the players should get one!

Yes. I've seen him play. Good size. Mobile and tough.

All well & good, but it still presupposes a judiciary that is fair dinkum and last time I asked- there was no common database to reference.

But how will King go with good players around him in a GPS 1s side?
