Whilst Kings are not a great side this year they will still have too much for Grammar, especially at home. I predict Kings by 15+
Iggies vs Shore - should be a relatively easy task for the View boys but this rain on their cricket pitch will make the scores MUCH much closer. Shore don't have much to offer but their forwards will hang in there on a wet surface. I reckon View by no more than 10.
Joeys vs Scots - going on current form Scots win easily, but Joeys still have that enigmatic ability to raise themselves, especially playing at fortress Hunters Hill. Scots have a terrible record there - someone might be able to tell me when they last won there but i'm picking it won't be too recent. This one could go to the wire... But more realistically i think Scots by 10+

Thats not for gps selections, they have no say, only aus selections, eg look at last year

There's been a lot of moaning about selections but tbh some of the GPS selectors have little to NO idea about what they are talking about or watching. Having selectors watch the whole team is a poor system imo. They would be far better served having position specific selectors - i.e. a Front five, backrow, Inside backs and outside backs. Yes they would still watch the whole game but if they were specifically watching key positions they would get a better idea of how those players were playing.

Here's a typical scenario that happens often. I was stood with selectors and other GPS staff watching a game. A backrower from one of the teams was having a very average game. He had missed countless tackles, got turned over when he carried the ball, etc etc - all in all clearly not up to it. In the last 5 minutes of the game the same player did 2 good things. One was a big tackle - more so because his opponent ran straight into him and he couldn't miss, and the other was another tackle where he regained his feet and pilfered the ball. Two good pieces of play yes, but you should have heard the old farts!

"Did you see that? Outstanding. Gee that lad has had a good game". Blah blah blah. He was terrible!!! But because he did 2 things in open view near where they were standing thats all they remembered.

Selecting is a difficult task at best - but it helps if you have some idea of what is going on for the WHOLE game.

I agree, a better option would be to assign selectors to certain players each weekend. Before each round, identify the real challengers for GPS jerseys from each team. Then send the selectors in with an idea of which players to watch and their positions. For round 1, base the candidates on previous representation, the selector observes each player, gives a review and add's any additional standout players to the list. Each selector send in their reviews and list of players from the weekend who stood out. An external moderator reads and re-assigns selectors to a different game the next week. He then gets a list of candidates as judged by the observer from the previous week and the cycle continues. By the end of the season the players who have been identified and on the most lists are judged to be the 'in-form' or 'standout' players and gain selection.

That process in my eyes would ensure selectors aren't wasting their time observing players who were never really up to standard. And from the minute they arrive at games they are aware of who to watch and previous selectors comments. They can also add players to the list if they were previously missed and players who have a standout game followed by a shocking game are judged on both performances equally.

My thinking, carry on.

I think Kings will do a lot better than people are giving them credit for. Hosting View this season could easily yield a win. As a View fan, that game looks to be one of the riskiest of the season

A while back I knew a GPS selector and he told me that he was one of three who was selecting the backrowers for the 3 GPS teams. They went to all the trials and whatever games were on before the selection deadline and looked at only the back rowers. What they did in the case where there needed to be a switch of a player from the 2nd row to the back row, or vice versa, I have no clue, but it certainly wasn't the case that he looked at all 15 players.

Maybe the system has changed since his day, but I hope not.

Also dermo i'm assuming you have only seen the boy playing union, i myself have only seen him play union and maybe he is an extremely better mungo then he is playing our code?

That's interesting Lee because I had the same conversation late last year and I was told that was not the case for GPS selections but was the case for NSW selections (they only had to attend one week's football to do the job).

Seems that the New and Parra selectors see something that no one else can see.

Would that mean he would be taking the place of Jamo Clarke as halfback for Parra's HM's team?

No Jamo was playing For Balmain, it would maybe mean the fight for Jeff Marcus (St Pats) at Parramatta.

I have seen him play a few times as well and can see why New's first XV is struggling, maybe their looking at next year's team and have already forgotton about this year!
