wish i could've made it to Kings today but had some private matters to attend to. all i know is in the 16As Kings beat New 23-10.

any idea how the 1sts and 2nds went? also teams? (assuming there was a program)

Comprehensive win to New 2nds

New 1sts turned in a workmanlike performance to defeat a spirited but disappointing Kings.

New made a number of changes at half time trialling players and were again without Roods in the centres and Vlahos in the second row.

"Most objective GPS rugby pundits had considered St Joseph’s to be traversing a rebuilding period when totting up their 2011 premiership chances … early season trial form however suggests that these modest expectations may well have to be raised." - 3:15 the GPS rugby blog

Are these "Schwaggers" presently turning out for Sydney University and Joeys any relation of the many "Schwagers" from NW New South Wales who've attended Joeys in the past?

Lindo, Matt schwager is the son of Tony and the nephew of geoff and adrian and the grandson of Inness "bull" schwager. All joeys old boys from Wee Waa. Matt is one of those rare players who played Aussie schools from his school's 2nd XV.

"baldwingforward" won't like that all. He's under the impression the Newington 2nds get spanked every game.

Ha ha - fair cop.

BTW Qwerty - i didn't say every game, but i did say 30-40 points. I couldn't be bothered going back too far but here are the Newington 2nds scores for 2009 and 2010

They weren't too competitive mate...

The Scots College 22 Newington College 12
The King’s School 38 Newington College 21

Newington College 12 St. Joseph's College 45
St. Ignatius’ College 31 Newington College 5

Scots 17 - Joeys 32

Some thoughts (and identifying the players only from the programmes)

• The score was about right and so was the 4 tries to 2 ratio.

• The Joeys team is very young. Was told that 9 of their players yesterday will be back next year and of those 3 are U/16 qualified.

• Scots backs looked good from set pieces but lacked cohesion at other times. Some of their passing and receiving was poor and at times one expected them to drop the ball after a few passes and they did.

• For Scots I liked workhorse 8. Miller, tough 12. Horwitz and ball runner 7. Walters. 10. Bryant put a couple of sneaky grubbers through which would have troubled Joeys with a bit more luck, and 9. Boileau showed an exceptional pass for a schoolboy, both ways.

• One of Joeys best was 15. Le Lievre, as one would expect. It is not Joeys style but the booming boot of Gus should be employed more from his own half in the future. I understand that the Joey's scrummie is really a flyhalf and indeed his passing from the deck was problematic. When Curtin came on after oranges things flowed better.

• Joeys ball work was tidier than that of Scots and the interplay of their outside backs in turning breaks into tries looked like the work of older players. Their two wingers look promising: 11. Hookey may have to play a bit more directly but he has a lovely swerve and offloads with mature timing. 14. Wilde looks very quick and predatory; so we will watch this space.

• As usual, the Joeys pack is more blue heeler than big dog but at least their tight five is older than the rest of the team. They held the scrums on their own put in most of the time, but the lineout needs a bit more work.

Twos

Scots 14 - Joeys 34

• The score was about right in this game too. Signs are that Joeys has a good Twos team this year, like last. 7. Watts, 9. Curtin and 12. McCarthy looked like they wouldn't be out of place in the Ones; in fact Curtin played for most of the 2nd half in the later game.

Just reposting the first post in the thread here to remind folks of our rules. If folks want to post about "buying players" do it on the scholarship thread, but keep it polite.

I have zapped some posts on this page accordingly.

Any schools thread, and especially this one, should not refer to scholarships. We started a separate thread for discussion on scholarships for the 2010 season because whatever rules you have people are often compelled to mention the subject; they can't help themselves. They often mention things obliquely as part of a general post. I've done it myself, not thinking of the consequences of ruining a thread.

When using the scholarships thread please obey the protocols in Scarfman's 2 stickies about Schoolboy rugby etiquette and Rules of the forum. Also please refrain from mixing discussion on scholarships with general matters in the same post.

This should isolate the scholarship virus to a single ward. The only other ways to stop the virus are to zap every single post that has whinges about scholarships in it, and rebuttals to such whinges - or to edit them, which steals our time.

joeys have in fact 4 players who qualify for U16's from yesterday's starting side, they are Hardie, Pennisi, Schwager and Deegan

Semi it's obvious you're year 10 at joeys so just stop with the under 16 propaganda as none of them stood out yesterday

Please pay attention to what Lee has to say guys, we're very serious and very trigger happy when it comes to the schoolboy thread, with no apologies.

Be aware that if you get yourself banned and you're logged on from a school, it may well be that you get everyone else from your school banned as well.
Be VERY careful.

16A - At halftime it was Scots 30 something to 3. Just after halftime SJC scored on the left wing then Scots scored on the left wing, I left after that. Both Scots wingers are good runners.

16B - I think SJC won 2 tries to 0, they scored right at the end with an intercept from the winger in his 22.

no, I am not in yr10 at joeys, I was simply pointing out that there are 4 16's players in the one's for joeys. me advertising yr10 at joeys would involve
me talking about the 16A's not only those 4 and gloating about how 'good' they are, which I have not
