NSW AAGPS 2025 (banter and commentary)

I don't think there will be any action taken, especially on a school level due to the player value.

Watching the replay, the ball left the hands of the Joeys player 1 second before the hit, and at that point the Scots boy had 2 feet planted on the ground. Even though it was just a second, he shifted his weight and went for the shot all in that time, he had time to flop and soften the blow. I agree that he wasn't trying to injure the Joe boy or hit him head high, but I believe he purposefully engaged in a late shot (nothing wrong with that usually, its just football).
nothing wrong with a late shot? nothing wrong with a late shot to the head? sorry but you are wrong. There is no chance this tackle was going to be anything other than high. wrong, wrong, wrong. This isn’t a crack at the tackler but for the sake of the integrity of the game high hits must be penalised out of the game, particularly when they result from a reckless action like this.

News coming out of Scots, #10 of the Scots 1st XV was dropped this week following poor discipline and low work ethic. Whilst training in the 2nds, trying to earn his spot back he unfortunately dislocated his elbow at the end of training. This taking place before this weeks game in particular against Newington could greatly affect their performance.

Yep, it deserved a red far more than the Riverview five eights hit.
High, late, no wrap and no mitigation
I’m not really sure the aim of rugby is to hurt the other guy, dominate yes but hurt no. Not sure I’ve ever heard anyone I admire in rugby say they went out to hurt the opposition
If you are talking about match against Shore, the Riverview five eight received a yellow card for his high shot. However, he already had a yellow from the first half, thus receiving a red card.

I agree with you. I am not saying that it is okay to make a late shot (definitely not to the head) but how often do we see late hits? I was saying that we see soft late shots every game that result in injury just as much as not late shots.

I am not defending this tackle, I think there should be punishment but I just doubt we will see it.

and if that is the case, fair enough two yellow equals automatic red. However usually in both rugby and football the yellow card will be shown first and then the red signalling a second yellow. I didn't see that so it looks like a straight red card.

Yeah not sure what happened there, but definitely was a double yellow.

They're competing pretty evenly with other teams. But of course their in the 4s comp so I guess its a reflection of the depth of the Newington rugby program at the school.
The 4ths isn't an AAGPS competition, so no expectations of a tough competition, realistically a few 3rds players should be ready to run on for the 2nds if injury persists, however we do see 16as players running on frequently.

S.C.E.G.S 3rd XV vs TAS 1st XV. Looks like it will be snowing out at Armidale on the weekend. I hope the Shore boys packed their long socks and skins. As for a prediction, I haven't heard too much about TAS but I've heard they are more of a contender this year. As for the Shore boys, they have started their campaign with a nice win over Grammar and I think they get the win on the weekend, but it could go either way.

S.C.E.G.S vs TKS 2nd XV. This matchup will most likely also be a close one. Coming off a brilliant comeback victory over SIC last week highlighted by the performances of Bremner and Garner, they will be looking to continue on from last week. TKS will be looking to bounce back after their heartbreaker against NC last week, where they conceded 2 tries in the last 5 minutes to blow the lead. My prediction is that this could also go either way but I am leaning towards Shore (Not bias).

S.C.E.G.S vs TKS 1st XV. Shore return to Parramatta once again and will look to replicate their massive victory last season. This game last year was when Shore had started to be seen as a contender and they will look to get their campaign back on track. Leahy comes into the squad for the injured Reardon which could be the X-Factor that Shore needs. Callaghan and Robertson will be essential in this matchup for Shore, as ball distribution will be a key for them to win this game. The battle will be won in the forwards as Kings will assumably use their strong pack of Fonua and Bloomfield to overrun Shore. Jarrett and Clout will have to play a huge role in minimising their impact. Unfortunately, I think TKS's forward pack will be too much for Shore and they will get the win at home.

All in all, I'm excited for a great day of footy and a Parramatta Pie.

Can't wait... I know it's early in the week but does anyone have an expected Kings 1XV?
@wisemaan should give us Shore's tomorrow.

a Parramatta Pie.
My last experience of the cattlemens pie was a disappointment.

The 2024 canteen were selling "meat" pies mass produced by some Polish gulag factory located in Sydney's south west. It seemed they used the best of bush pig, dingo, old cow, horse, donkey, kangaroo, possum and camel mixed together in an industrial blender that spurts out a meaty slurry. They used this to create an abomination of pastry product. As a Joeys old boy, we were fed these (cold mostly) for dinner on Saturday. It is hard to forget that experience. Thank goodness for pepper. We would lift the pie lid and go to town with the pepper shaker. It did make the pie somewhat flavorsome.

As someone who works on the bbq and occasionally canteen this is sadly true on the food front for TKS. Needs a lot of love.

If you're around riverview on saturday, would defintley try to get over to watch the 16As game. For those who were there last year would rememeber an absolute thriller which went right down to the wire, which ended up resulting with the Joeys 12 Toby Gandy whos on the larger side, slipping on the conversion. However, with Finn Hannon going to opens, gandy has had some start to the season, with his main highlight being icing the game a against Kings from 40 out, with some even calling him the "ice man". So its best to believe Gandy will have his say
