My son at Scots has been non stop talking about how their 6th XV is undefeated and have won all games by more then 15 points every game. They are apparently led by a strong captain and the fiery"big red" at number 8 is on fire scoring one or more try's every game. Does anyone have any more information on this team or other undefeated teams in opens?

the seconds comp is quite weak this year, the dominant team, Joeys has a massive positive points differential, View is just holding on to positive and all others are negative. This Reinforces the issue with stacking the top grade and not developing players.

Not a scoreline recap but a feels recap. Bare with me, critique me, re tort away.

Beautiful afternoon at the Swamp (Oasis). Chuffed to have the game back where it should be and the School owning responsibility and providing accordingly for the healthy crowd. 5-6k in attendance that does feel a bit down but also makes it comfortable. Double round has allowed for those catch-ups/reunions to be organised for your home fixture as well as the streams at local venues probably took a chunk away from the potential number.

Game kicked off and it felt pretty immediate that the View forwards had ascendancy at the breakdown and Joeys wouldn't be seeing clean ball for sustained periods. I know I carry a bias but man to man the View pack out played their opposition and after a tense softening up period you could see a platform being laid and gas taken from the Joeys tank.

View 9 was excellent in dictating the pace of play. Had a few snipes and astute kicking kept turning the Joe boys around. You can see the heavy marking he receives that is then opening up the field for a sharp back-line with a pair of exceptional Wingers. Once the View 9 is in a rep side and the field spreads in defence he will go even better.

Joeys 9 deserves a shout out as he had decisive runs with some lapses from the View ruck defenders and pounced. Same goes for the Joeys 7 who is very quick off the mark and I'd say moving to 7 is the right call for his footy. Too small to be effective in the front row long term. Natural talent does have a ceiling once playing with very large humans. There's a very good footy player there though.

Having watched the 2nds game prior I was impressed with the composure of the SJC 10 who I believe recently went down to this side and I know it's hard to compare as they face different oppositions but the 1sts 10 looked rushed from start to finish and ran too much. Quick feet sure, but when the 10 gets caught behind or at the advantage line it then throws out your next two phases of play. Few of the famous German back-line move Hans would have got it done at times and stretched the View defence or committed the View 7 who was free to defend in the channel and block up the field.

The 2nd half of the game went how most have this year that View keep running and ask the question Can you keep up? The answer was no. Can't lie when Joeys got a cheeky late try when the score was 34/19 I couldn't help but think "this can't be happening" but View held out for a deserving win that felt more of a 15 point spread than the 8 it ended up but credit that Joeys didn't stop attacking and chasing the game.

Joeys are a skilled side you can see it with how Centres can kick on the run,15 looks to be a top player and dangerous in space but they lack punch and intimidation up front. Iv'e never seen a good side that doesn't have at least 1 bully (on a field) player. Shore had it last year with MLM. He was better than you and he knew it. View are running around with guys like 1,3,7 who feels like they want to own the middle of the field.

In regards to the 2nds game. Joeys are slick and winning it late was the sign of a class side. View will be disappointed. They could have grabbed this one and made up for losing to Shore who got beaten by Kings.

Great writeup!

Joeys 9 had a fantastic game and even out-Grovered Grover at times with some great runs and a try from the ruck. Grover tried some of the same, but heavily marked, as you said, which actually created some space just outside the inside channel for the rest of the team.

Grover still took the biscuits overall, though. Again, best on ground with Osbourne a close second. The guy is monumental; he has a rugby brain and vision like G. Gregan, and I am certain he will go on to very big things if he has the will and stays healthy.

Never comfortable against Joeys, but the game felt won with 10 or 15 to go after View took the greater than seven-point lead through the penalty kick.

Side note on some of the chat last week about players that should shift spots in senior Rugby.

Can't help but imagine the View 7 as a destructive 9. I worry he is limited by height once in Grade Rugby even though he physically looks to be a specimen. He often slots into 9 when required in play and his pass is pretty decent. With some dedication to it I think he'd quickly be an issue in that spot.

100% in agreeance. He would be lethal. Would hate to see him not play grade rugby because of height. He has always been a standout when he played junior Waratahs. Hope he has been training in other positions. Tough to play 9 at View when Australias best 9 is in the team.

Wild thoughts perhaps far fetched but I wonder if he has ever been trained at hooker. I mean Ghattas went from 2 to 7 for Joeys. When I saw Dempsey at Kings he had put on some muscle mass. He is much bigger this year.

I guess we all saw different things. Joeys did not play well at all. I went to the game thinking Joeys would be dominated up front. I expected that. I did not see that. Both sides dropped a lot of Ball, joeys a lot more than view. Grover was a difference with his kicking game that gave view field position rather than their tight 5. He would kick it Joeys would run a bit chuck a pass that should have been kept and gave possession up. Joeys backs were very ordinary on Saturday.

Will be interesting to see the return game.

  3. Daniel Osbourne (I) - Hasani Bloomfield(K) {Position up to the selectors preference}
  4. Isaac Fonua (K)
  5. Kupu Manuofetoa (N) – debatable but not sure but need prominent jumping options
  6. Justice Taumoepeau (J)
  7. Dylan Simmons (N)
  8. Heinz Lemoto (S)

  14. Jack Plamondon ( I ) - Henry troy (J) - Bailey Roberts (N)
  15. Callum Grantham (N) - Max Palmasani (J)
Most places are still very debatable. This is very much based off what I have seen through dominance in the field. Very tight contention through the backrow, wings and Flyhalf spot.

2nd XV AAGPS team 2025

1. George Tancred (I)
2. Charlie Ghattas (J)
3. Hasani (K) - Daniel Osbourne (I)
4. Will Spora (I)
5. Cameron Stuckey (J)
6. Henry Dempsey
7. Luke Toia (K) - Toby Davies (K) - Selection Preference
8. Dylan Simmons (N) - Bede Clout (E)
9. Kai Wilson (K)

14. Jack Plamondon ( I ) - Henry troy (J) - Bailey Roberts (N)
15. Callum Grantham (N) - Max Palmasani (J)

As a 2nds team, this could be one of the most highly contended sides I have seen in recent years. Many selections will be based on form and preference of the selectors (As always). I am keen to see how it plays out with the selections of the front row, flyhalf, and wing positions.

I missed the Scots games for Joeys, heard they played well. I was at View however and agree on your comments. Joey's forward pack aren't up to the level they should be, I said it here a few weeks ago. I'm surprised with some key losses on the trot, the only move Joeys made was to swap the number 10 out. The 10 wasn't the issue, the forwards protecting that position was. Be interesting to see if any team changes this week. And food review, hit the BBQ at View, not their finest work, but the people serving were very friendly and lovely so that made it worthwhile.

They were dominated in the forwards. The Joeys forwards held out very well initially with the couple of "held ups" early in the game, but they were under immense pressure from the get go.

The Joeys' backs had back-foot ball all day and started making mistakes, with two of the View tries coming directly from Joey's backline mistakes under pressure, the intercept of the spilt ball and the final View try after another drop.

I find that teams generally don't "not play well at all" in a vacuum. And credit where credit is due. Anyway, onwards and upwards...
