Hopefully there is a lot more rugby in ‘22 to talk about. Given the limited opportunity to watch lower age group games in the last few years there will probably be some surprise talent emerge.

Totally agree and all fingers crossed for a lot more Schoolboys Rugby.
The 2022 GPS season should see Newington as favourites to win the 1st XV Premiership based on the majority of this playing group being together since Year 7 and their dominance over the years.
Having said this Shore will be serious contenders for being the only team in this age group to have defeated the boys from Stanmore in 2019 and 2020.
And as always there is always Joeys, Kings and Scots who we can never count out with most of the games over years have been tough and narrow score lines against Newington.
Unfortunately for Riverview this age group from Lane Cove have been the under strength over the past years.

I believe the announcement will be made next week.
Also I’ve heard that the GPS Rugby 1st XV Merit Representative Team 2021 will be announced next week.

I don’t understand why the NSW Gen Blue don’t announce a 2021 U18 Merit Team like their counterparts in QLD, VIC and ACT. IMO this will give the boys the encouragement and drive to work towards when we do come out of these crazy times.

Cannot disagree with you, the Year 12 Cohort have been outstandingly strong, since 2017. So have Shore since 2022.Not only have the New boys been strong in Rugby, but also in Athletics. In 2020, they won the Immediate GPS Athletics. So its likely they will possess a backline with pace for 2022. Additionally, they have amassed a great deal of experience, with many boys having accumulated up to two seasons of GPS Rugby for 2022.
Also, beware of Joeys and Kings who will benefit from strong 16A sides entering the Open Division next year.

I was told that the NSWJRU are waiting for the commencement dates of the community sport and possibly the 18/16/15 Gen Blue squads will be announced in November with some kind of camps in December.

So a point I want to make about something I see time and time again. Just because a school has a strong 16A's or an A's undefeated from the 13s onwards, it does not really relate to that school automatically winning the comp when the boys are in the opens. From these weary eyes I believe what brings the shield to a school is a 1st XV that more often that not, has older boys in the team that have the experience. A gun 16s doesn't mean a lot against 18s that have already had a year in the 1s, save for say the 1978 Matraville team. Joker is that the correct year?

My reply is both Yes and No.It will depend on the quality of the opposition, the preparation given to these teams, lost of form and injuries. Certainly, Newington in 2019 and 2020 did not make good transition to the open division.However,But account must also be made that preparation involving preschool matches could have been better. Equally, in 2022 they will field a team, that may have to 10-12 players, with two seasons experience behind them. Whether, the talent they displayed in the age divisions will reappear, remains to be seem.
I know of 16As sides making an impact immediate once in the Open division. Usually, strong 16As in the CAS and ISA competitions, are more likely to be successful in making an impact. Whereas, in the GPS this is less likely to occur. This reflects the relative strengths of the respective competitions.

....and from the sideline, the coach of the Joeys 1st XV, Br Oswald was heard to call out to the Joeys captain, Mark Burgess to "tackle the black kid" to which he replied...
"which one? there are 100's of them..."

Future Wallabies coach Bob Dwyer was at the game, “While Joey’s played strong, quick rugby full of initiative and aggression the little Matraville guys would just tackle and tackle until their opponents coughed up possession.” Some believe that Matraville side is the greatest Australian schools side ever – public or private.
I disagree the 1963 SBHS team won the premiership undefeated and produced five future Wallabies.
