why were Joeys 16As playing Oakhill 16As (they put 60 points on them) when Barker's 16As look to be the stronger team? As I understand it, the decision on who out of Barker and Oakhill plays the A side from Joeys depends on previous week's result between them. Did Oakhill 16As beat Barker 16As???
Yes by something like 16-7

Also must have won all lower age groups. 13a,s beat Joey's yesterday by 30+ points.

WTF?

Yes, Oakhill beat Barker in the 16A’s comp, it was unfortunate that the week of that game Barker had 8 players out of the A’s for many different reasons. They only just lost too. However, who’s to know that maybe Oakhill did yesterday too!

Scots team , Versus Riverview,as I understand were without brial and rugless

Savala was at 10 and Darcy Clifton at breakaway

I didn’t see the match... however my feeling is scots

Aren’t contenders in 2019... as bit young. Probably be favourites in 2020.

Interesting re Barkers performance... and particularly what happened with Gibbs in the bin

reinforces my opinion that Jude Gibbs is def a key man , along with the big 13

Think scots v newington will be interesting

With newington backs at full strength should be telling as to News title aspirations

Let's remember these are just trials and speaking to the head of strength and conditioning, yesterday was a pure trial. I do remember the Scots 93 side loosing to New in the trials.

Results for Opens:
3rd XV- TAS 17 - KWS 5
2nd XV- TAS 12-KWS 15
1st XV- TAS 0 - KWS 26
Match comment on the firsts from FB :"With Kinross Opens having played 4 games already, TAS players did well to contain the scores. In the 1sts, TAS scrums were very strong, but we just couldn't put points on the board even though getting very close at times".

They did indeed, then they unleashed their freshly minted weapons of war.

Scots I know lost a trial to Joeys in 2011 and then dusted the cattle dogs latter in the comp rounds. Never Judge Scots (or Joeys for that matter) on early season form.

1993 was a great year. Sydney Boys High had the best "homegrown" team that year beating Joeys for the last time in their History. They were a great team built around a wonderful back line and beat Joeys easily. High should have won that year if not for the Eastern empire wanting to celebrate a centenary at any cost. The final watch was a wonderful spectacle. Even though Joeys lost, the blue wave swarmed the field at the end and gave Scots three cheers.

Games for the 11 May

Joeys v Knox/Alos at Hunter's Hill (assume Knox would play 1sts and all A games)

Riverview v Barker/Oakhill at Hornsby & Castle Hill

Scots v Newington at Bellevue Hill

Kings v Stannies/Kinross at North Parramatta

Grammar v Cranbrook at Rushcutters Bay

Shore v Trinity/St Pats at Northbridge

High v Pius at Oxford Falls

TAS v St Gregs at Armidale

Tips

Joeys to beat Knox in a competitive match

Riverview to beat Barker (noting that Barker had key players out v J)

Kings to beat Stannies

Cranbrook to beat Grammar

Shore to beat Trinity

High to beat Pius

TAS to beat Gregs

Scots and New will be interesting - always very competitive games. Heart says New.:)

Very true Joker. High should of beaten Scots if not for a virus that run through their side that week. They were all over Scots for most of the game and tired towards the end. That and an epic 13 man pushover try from the line out with 5 mins from Scots shattered their dreams for a premiership they will not see until they can work their way back into the comp.

Just looking at the short player summary of the Junior Wallaby summary who beat NZ> Curious. Were there any NSW GPS players in the side?

Thank you Eyes and Ears and Ruggerfan1 for comments. It was difficult to pick up from the descriptions. Still, does not appear to be a lot

Rugby Season

More than 2018 side.

Apparently the Queensland boys are of a much higher standard.

I think you will also find that quite a few of 2018 have gone to league. RA has typically dropped the ball with very little follow up and when they have, a reactive last minute clutch to keep some higher profile schoolboys in the mix at substantial cost.

Whatever happened to the 'Generation X' program or whatever it was called last year for senior schoolboy rugby players? It seemed to sneak off into the horizon with not much fanfare?

Those that came from League, I presume.

I think you'll find a trend that is slowly skewing from rugby back to league. I could be wrong but from 2017 Rorke was a classic example even if he was an exception. Smith and Crichton I'm pretty sure were from a union background not to mention Tepai, Lussick & others although I'm sure Lussick would have played both. Looking at the number of GPS kids playing Harold Matts, this number is on the rise and quite a few Riverview & Joeys kids seem to be playing at 16s levels which never used to be the case.

Quite a few of this year's schoolboy reps were approached I believe causing union to proudly announce they had kept certain schoolboys. Obviously players like Sualli have been signed very early so I can't blame them for being slow in those cases.

I honestly don't have the numbers to compare but I get the feeling that quite a few are starting to go to league as soon as they finish school compared to say 5 years ago. My point is that the Waratahs, RA or whoever is running the show are either oblivious or quite happy for the kids to consider options elsewhere or are just completely asleep at the wheel.

My suspicions are the latter sadly.

I was at the game.
Early season it may be but a lot of errors from both sides.
Scots will have to improve significantly to be a contender this year.
Set piece was atrocious. Scrums messy and struggled to win their own lineouts.
The potential is there but combinations just weren't working.
The quick recycling and dynamism of recent years was missing.
A drawn match doesn't bode that well for Riverview either.
Mid table for both these teams seems most likely.
The smart money this year will be on Joeys or Kings.
We shall see in coming weeks but it could be a long season for the Scots faithful.

Don't worry Wristy....Scots will be there in the mix I predict.
Lambert demands nothing less. Caught this from last week's Principals assembly.
