Not surprised, had completely dropped off in form after his breakout season with the Highlanders. Can't help but feel it was attitude that held him back, as clearly he wasn't rated by Tony Brown, who preffered Mitch Hunt. Don't think he was ever likely to be in the AB frame again, and best for Chiefs to start developing Jacomb.
Definitley no surprise there. For all his promise he just seemed to hit his peak very early, and as you point out Jacomb has been developed by Chiefs and is honestly abetter 10 I believe. Not quite sure what it is with Ioane, he is a good player, shows flashes at times, but hasn't quite got that last bit to be a top player here. All the best to him anyway, hope it goes well.

While I agree Ioane is unlikely to be in the AB frame anytime soon & wish him well it's still an erosion of depth in a position we're not particularly strong in right now.

Yes, and no, I think we've an incredibly talented next crop coming through (Jacomb, Cashmore, Millar, Sullivan, Godfrey, Faleafaga to name a few) who are all between that 20 - 25 age bracket, I'd imagine Ioane was only ever going to occupy that 10 / 15 bench slot, where Jacomb would be preferred at 10 going forward. I think with McKenzie, Plummer, Cameron, Perofeta, and Barrett as older 10s, we've got the players who can safeguard that next crop of 10s coming through, which I think is one of the best groups I've seen in years. Certainly better than the 2010s which seemed to cough up a handful of gems, and a lot of journeymen.

Yep I agree, like the look of the ones we got coming through, even if I do agree we I prefer players stay for depth of super teams in general.

I get the sense Josh Ioane wasn't the most disciplined professional. He had the talent to be a regular AB.

Also intereted to read that MP (Moana Pasifika) have just picked up a major sponsor, Pasifika Medical Assoc, who seems have brought into MP (Moana Pasifika) . Makes for interesting times, seems rumours that Vaea Fifita maybe talking of joining as a player too. All good positive news for mine!

I think a signing like this makes it the other way around...

@Ignoto on the MP (Moana Pasifika) Franchise thread:

"What about this actually makes the narrative around NZRU again taking advantage of the PI's again?

"The whole point of introducing both the Fijian and Moana teams was to give a pathway for their players tohave careers this side of the world.

"By MP (Moana Pasifika) (Moana Pasifika) still being based in Auckland and allowing Ardie to play for them and be picked for the All Blacks demonstrates, MP (Moana Pasifika) (Moana Pasifika) is just another NZ team.

"If Ardie can play for Moana and still eb picked, then DMac can play for the Tahs and still be picked."

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing that people would say it, just more stating that that's not what this is.

AB's capping players out of Moana or signing up the star players to NZ sides and then capping them definitely smacks of Moana as a feeder side, but established All Blacks (a literal world player of the year) signing with Moana is not that. The limited injection of senior players from Australia and New Zealand is what needs to be happening to help bring the side and younger players on. Ideally they would be reverting to their Samoan or Tongan heritage for test purposes as Leali'ifano and Kepu did, but realistically Ardie is a fair way off of that and it's more just an added bonus when it happens.

All Blacks captain Scott Barrett has pre-emptive brain surgery, set to miss start of Rugby Championship

--NZ Herald--

In order to alleviate worries over the All Blacks captains predilection towards getting red carded during rugby football test matches, All Blacks captain Scott Barrett has had surgery on his brain, and is unlikely to feature in the opening rounds of the Rugby Championship next month.

"It was a very delicate operation using microscopic neurosurgery tools due to the astonishingly minute size of the patients brain" said lead surgeon Dr Z.Ero.

"I inserted a tiny little plaque in the patients prefrontal cortex, the area responsible for decision making. In miniscule comic sans font, the plaque has one tiny microscopic word printed on it; "DON'T". Just one word. Hopefully the patient heeds this warning as he's about to brainlessly clatter into red card territory during a very, very important All Blacks rugby football test match."
