If he makes the right choices, I reckon this could turn out to be better for his career.

This way he's hot property for the Euros, rather than being a washed up Wallaby who couldn't get picked for a couple of years. Maybe there's something in that Silverfern rumour, although back to League would surely be madness?

They said on Foxsports he's heading away as well, possibly of a trip to England to pick up a SuperLeague contract?

I doubt that, he is fighting the termination.

If the termination notice is found to be invalid, the contract is still on foot.

i doubt he would be fighting the termination as such, if anything his looking for a payout because he was sacked unfairly or something like that, but he wont be wearing the wallaby/tahs jersey again ever.

Time will tell whether Lote deserved the bullet (this time) or not, but you can't help but appreciate the vindictiveness of the timing of his sacking. I suspect that will count against the ARU in the court.

I reckon Lote was the most successful of the 3 big converts, although Rogers would have been ahead if he had of been able to stay healthly. He (Lote) was great in the period upto about 2005, but I won't miss him given his form of the last 4 years. His scored a try against the brumbies in 2004 (coincided with the night of my 30th) which was sensational and took away the last reason I had to show any restraint that night.

Think of it from JO'Ns perspective (scary I know).

Couple of years back Lote fucked around so much that they had to publicly slap a final warning on him.

It looks like he's gone and done something else (whether big or small) that's eventually going to go public. Even if it doesn't go public, the whole squad will know what happened.

So what can JO'N do now?

If he tries to ignore it, or give yet another warning his credibility is shot and the squad knows they can fuck around endlessly. Say another non megastar then does something and gets sanctioned - imagine the bitching then about Lote being a favourite etc then.

JO'N has no choice but to bone him - everyone was painted into a corner and it sounds like Lote's forced their hands.

Not questioning trhe reasons for sacking lote, just the timing. Had he been let go on 29 June, he would be signed with a league club by know for the balance of the season. By sacking him on 1 July, the ARU did lote out of an extra $100k.

I'm not sure the timing was quite so deliberate. The rumour is the ARU offered him a deal, which if he took, would have all been done by the 30th. Perhaps Lote didn't get back to the ARU until the 30th?

Also, the ARU lawyers probably would have preferred it if Lote had got a deal, as would weaken his case for damage caused etc.

As a side note: Isn't it amazing the stuff we can wang on about with little or no information? :)

Gallop said Tuqiri may have missed the deadline to play this season, but did leave the door slightly ajar.

"We don't register players after the June 30 unless there are exceptional circumstances, and we don't have any information at this stage on which to base that decision," he said.

Well smh have done the rounds just in case...

BRISBANE

"Anything we're able to offer Lote would be an insult" - chief executive Bruno Cullen.

BULLDOGS

"He'd have to be paid about a fifth of what he's currently being paid and do five times more work" - chief executive Todd Greenberg.

CANBERRA

"I can't see him coming into our calculations. I can't see us having money in the salary cap. I don't think anyone would" - chief executive Don Furner.

CRONULLA

"We've got no interest" - chief executive Richard Fisk.

GOLD COAST

"If he wanted to come back to Queensland and play in Queensland, we'd love to talk to him" - chief executive Michael Searle.

MANLY

"I can't imagine anyone being able to afford the salary he'd be getting in rugby. I think he'll probably head overseas" - coach Des Hasler.

MELBOURNE

"There's no interest, for the simple reason that we're very limited on our salary cap. Whatever money we've got, we'd use for a centre or five-eighth and hopefully both. We're certainly not in the market for a winger" - football manager Frank Ponissi.

NEWCASTLE

"We're not looking for a specialist winger. He's not on our radar. We don't know why he's been dismissed. We wouldn't even attempt to get a player without knowing whether it was serious or not" - CEO Steve Burraston.

NORTH QUEENSLAND

"We'd have some interest, but I just don't see how we could do it from a financial point of view" - chief executive Peter Parr.

PARRAMATTA

"Our current salary cap position would prevent us from making any substantial offer for Lote" - acting chief executive Andrew Hill.

PENRITH

"What we would have to offer him . . . we wouldn't embarrass him by doing it" - chief executive Michael Leary.

ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA

SOUTH SYDNEY

"Salary-cap wise, we've got no money to throw at anybody" - chief executive Shane Richardson.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS

"The first thing I'd want to do is find out the reasons for his termination. He would be of interest, but we'd be like everyone else - we'd struggle with the salary cap" - CEO Steve Noyce.

WARRIORS

"It would be stretching the imagination to say we've got a definite interest" - chief executive Wayne Scurrah.

WESTS TIGERS

"We'd take him tomorrow if he wants to play for a quarter of his money. If not, we wouldn't be able to afford him" - recruitment manager Warren McDonnell.

This is all so problematical.
Lote may be very good friends with a chap, lets call him a 'friend' of the Broncos and this chap could - if he wanted to make things work should the Broncs decide this is the way they want to go.
Obviously the salary cap would be sacrosanct but if they wanted to I am sure they could accomodate this fine athlete somewhere in their team and he would of course be do so on a much reduced income.

It is interesting that out of all of those comments from the CEOs only two mention that they would like to first find out what he did to get sacked!! (Although we obviously don't know how the quotes were edited.)

My understanding is that if the termination notice is valid, Lote has no case for compensation. So the first step is to refute the notice and then look for compensation for the ARU wanting to break a "valid" contract.

The only person that did Lote out of $100k was Lote, it was probably just easier for the number crunches at the ARU to do it at the EOFY.

Bloody interesting quotes Moses. I am particularly intrigued by:

Moses said:
1) CRONULLA: "We've got no interest" - chief executive Richard Fisk.

2) NEWCASTLE: "We're not looking for a specialist winger. He's not on our radar. We don't know why he's been dismissed. We wouldn't even attempt to get a player without knowing whether it was serious or not" - CEO Steve Burraston.

3) SYDNEY ROOSTERS: "The first thing I'd want to do is find out the reasons for his termination. He would be of interest, but we'd be like everyone else - we'd struggle with the salary cap" - CEO Steve Noyce.

4) ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA: No comment

The first three indicate that clubs are now thinking about their public image - especially the Sharks. The Knights ask the question, but don't mention money as an issue. The Roosters, like the Knights, are looking at the implications of a troubled player on the roster, but do have a money issue to think about.

4) is the most interesting - I wonder if it was simply a case of them not being able to get someone at the Dragons to comment, or whether they're pulling a Wayne Bennett...

Have heard what the incident was - allegedly.

It had to do with what happened after meeting the Queensland boys in Melbourne after the first State Of Origin match. This was 3 days before the Baas game; so maybe there was no problem with his being there, as he wasn't in the match day 22 against the Baas.

I can't mention what the incident was because the allegation may be false and I would be doing Lote and his family a grave disservice to mention it. But if they are true, everybody is on the wrong track, and I can understand why his contract was terminated and why the Tahs agreed with the ARU action.

The few details you have given match my "tip off" as well. Particularly timing and that the ARU has grounds for terminating the contract.
