Lions Tour 2025

I love that hypothetical team. This can be a real fan enagagement event with a really high calibre game of footy. Bit of barbarian style with Valynce TeWahare who is the roughest of diamonds and get those League eyes with Joey Manu.

Part of me does think as we host the Lions tour maybe a couple more Aus starters... Inverse if in NZ

As this game is a real standalone like the old fixtures v Country I'd rather see the Wallaby squad members 24-32 sent back to start for the Super Rugby sides and make those fixtures as strong as possible. The Brumbies are a much better side if they have guys like Cale and Reimer raring to go.

For the tour i'd say there's a good chance of a number of non-critical Force and Reds players been released from Wallabies to play their Super Rugby Matches against the Lions since they're first up, but Tahs and Brumbies are edging a bit too close to the 1st Wallabiest test match so don't see too many of those players been released.

Interesting tidbit at the end of this article about Hooper maybe playing for the combined ANZAC side:

I hope they're not too restrictive about keeping Wallabies out of the tour games, particularly with them all being played beforehand, but I understand the need to protect those front line guys.

I do really love the idea that some of these players they pull in for the ANZAC game will also turn out for a super side though, might double as a bit of a recruitment opportunity to see if they're keen to return to the fold ahead of the home world cup.
George Smith is surely still running around somewhere?

Tuipulotu is out for 5 months.. That takes him to end of June, almost ruling him out of the Tour. Tough position to be in.
Man that's a loss for Sione and the Lions but also a pretty big potential loss for the narrative and theatre of the tour. Hopefully he makes a quick enough recovery to make it on the plane.

From a selection standpoint the flow on is probably a much more Irish backline, you'd expect to now see an all Irish centre pairing (whereas Huwipulotu was a good chance before) and a bit of a boost for the chances of a few of the Irish outside backs as a result.

Sione is twice the attacking threat Bundee is. Makes me feel better from an Australian point of view.

Sounds like polling from the leaked articles didn't go down so well, or WR (World Rugby) have cracked the almighty shits.

Getting loads of popcorn to see how this plays out.

Would love to know how they are still in contention.

Oh yea, feel that is obvious. WR (World Rugby) would have been furious to pose potentially ~ $20 - 30min in ticket and hospo by not hosting in Melbourne.

Yeah bit weird to cut off a state with near a third of the country's population and 2nd highest British population, french population and 3rd most Kiwis.

A packed AAMI would be one of the better pool game venues. I'm sure somewhere like Comm Bank in Parramatta would be happy to take games that Vic don't want.

The last paragraph is interesting - RA is guaranteed $100m........with WR (World Rugby) banking any additional profits.

Me thinks this is why MCG is back in the picture

Vic government needs to pay WR (World Rugby) to host games or WR (World Rugby) won't give them any. It really is that simple

The Oz article still says that Sydney will host the final, but the MCG is back in contention for hosting games...

Having said that, you would really only want to use that stadium for the biggest games.

I'd think a semi-final at least, and a few pool games, would make the most sense to me. Setting aside the $$$'s for a second, imagine running two semis and a final on the same surface, not to mention the numerous pool games. Can't imagine Homebush surface would hold up that well.
