Rebels score Kingi for next year's Super 15

But the Rebels appear to have failed in their bid to secure NSW Waratahs midfielder Tom Carter. Asked whether he was interested in joining them, Carter said: "My loyalty is to the Waratahs. I love the place and we have unfinished business until we win a Super 14."

WTF?! Bruce, could you please have a word with the boy, convince him his future's at the Rebels. I promise I'll lay off Sydney Uni if you do.

MELBOURNE Rebels are expected to sign Wallabies halfback Richard Kingi for the expanded Super 15 competition next year.

It is understood the Rebels have reached a verbal agreement with Kingi and will announce his signing on March 15. Kingi was an obvious target for the Rebels. A bolter for the Wallabies tour of Japan and Europe last November, he played in the midweek games against Gloucester and Cardiff. But Kingi was only this year promoted from a Queensland Reds academy contract to a Super 14 deal.

Kingi, who was ruled out of the Reds' match with the Chiefs in Hamilton today because of a hamstring injury, would not receive many opportunities playing behind Wallabies halfback Will Genia in Brisbane.

I think I shall decide my 2011 loyalty to the Tahs or Rebels on the Carter-negative criterion.

Tommy's quite all right where he is, Lindommer. In fact I think he'd probably be distracted if the bagging stopped.

Your offer to lay off slagging Uni is appreciated but I really don't think you should bother. Presumably you feel there is more to be gained by trying to knee-cap Uni than putting the same energy into building up the Pirates. So far it doesn't seem to be working but who knows? You have any number of mates giving you a hand.

That's the great thing about our sport. Everyone has a role to play.

you always worry during signing season that your favourate players might jump, the drop in temp here in sydney today must be due to everyone breathing a sigh of relief that carter is staying put until the job is done.

good for kingi though, is that the first official aussie signing or is mortlock?

reports they signed Welsh international Gareth Delve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gareth_Delve) and are close to Salvi?

Delve isn't a necessary signing in my option. Is he a handy player?

There are currently talented Victorian No8s running around in Aus 7s (T.Grey) and in Ireland (T.Horua). Number 8 seems like one of the few positions that going overseas or even interstate isn't 100% needed.

Carter's will stay with the Tahs. His partner is a medical student close to graduating and she is likely to stay in Sydney.

T.Horua is already in Melbourne, however its because his in doing rehab because he has injured himself again, Horua is in the club of Heenan and McMenimen, nice talents but to injury prone

Yeah. He's been down at my training a bit.

He isn't visibly injured but I haven't seen him do contact.

And the boys on Fox Sports seemed to think the du Plessis brothers were signed or about to sign as well. They would be handy in vital positions, although the Dr would have to leave the "trip" behind.

They're not the only ones:

But apparently Pocock isn't being considered and Lipman has been refused clearance by the ARU:

I have to don my asbestos undies and confess my Uni bias here but I reckon Tim Davidson would be a great buy for the Rebels. I could see him playing a role very similar to that played by Brett Robinson at the start of the Brumbies. He is a very good player with a fantastic work ethic and is a real leader having captained Uni in 5 Shute Shield wins starting at the age of 21. He is still only 26. I would be surprised if Damien Hill and Macqueen aren't at least thinking about it. The sort of guy you could build a team and a team culture around.
Of course they'd have to tempt him away from the Young Yabbies first.

Despite the Rebels' attempt to unite a couple of Joeboys, the ARU have put the kybosh on Lipman's signature: his liking for Colombian marching powder has caught up with him.

I just hope they take Gasnier. Anything to keep him out of a Reds Jersey.

Gasnier, unlike many league converts, has gone above and beyond to succeed in union. He certainly isn't there yet but for a reasonable sum I think Rod could turn him into a dangerous man.

Lord knows the Wallabies could use a genuine outside center and not a winger or a fullback playing out of position.

A very good player but not proven at the Super level after being in a squad. I was surprised he didn't make it but I guess some players have a certain level - club rugby, ARC (notionally), Super rugby, internationals, crunch test matches - and Tim is not at the Super level. I hope he proves me wrong and can get on the park and play against good mates from Young: Ducker Caldwell and Tom Carter - but I have my doubts.

If he does, I trust that Ducker won't demand anything from his lunch box, as was the case in their Young :) days.
