League Targets

I'd hope, at the very least, that Cleary spends at least a season playing union (Japan Top League if necessary) before he's considered for the Wallabies, can't see how he'd make the transition to a completely different, and very technical sport otherwise. It'd be wingers / those who have played both who'd make the transition imo, someone like Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow would be ideal.
Pretty sure he played union at high school in nz

Well we’ll never see Marky in Rugby again if he keeps this up.
The Wallabies played a RWC with Marky as starter and nothing happened. You main focus have to be the tight-five, then the breakdown it's mean the backrowers then the playmakers 9/10, then a skilfull fullback on the back, a top centre and then just then you can look at what kind of winger do you have. It's the less important position by far. So Marky is not gonna solve the Wallabies problem, he didn't last year

Cleary and Tabuai-Fidow are not gonna convert the Wallabies into a Top 3 team again. If that's the topic you never gonna solve the real problem. You would fill the Wallabies backline with full of NRL superstars meamwhile your tight-five is smashed in every f*cking scrum and you backrow goes backwards in every contact. That would work if the Wallabies will join to the NRL

I think the conversation shouldn’t be having league players come across now, by the time they are 23-24 it’s far too late. They would have built so many instinctive aspects in their professional training designed for league, it would be extremely hard to unlearn and then learn instinctive habits for union after this. The conversation needs to be able making sure the Nathan cleary’s of the world don’t make it to league pro systems in the first place. There is so many guys if identified at 16-17 that could have been amazing union players and learn the skills then. This includes tight 5 and back row players. Someone like Josh Papalii, on a union training program would be 130kgs and built like a fridge, instead he’s 115-120kg. Same with someone like Lindsay Collins would make a good 6 and be a 115kg no nonsense work horse. But they all greared and have specialized in a different game. Same with union guys, Itoje, Etzebeth, Tupou, etc would struggle to make an NRL side

As for locks, we already have plenty, we just can’t retain any of them or attract them to play for us because the sport is highly unsuccessful here and cannot afford them or provide the correct opportunities for them. The age profile of the current world champs is pretty old, similar ages in some cases to Adam Coleman, Arnold brothers, Skelton, Kane Douglas, Simmons, etc. if they were all back in Aus, some guys in the current squad might not even start at the Super Rugby team.

I agree in terms of finding a 6 or 8 but when it comes to outside backs it's pretty transferable and if they bring an improved catch and pass great. Kicking is the big deficit area though.

We probably have an advantage in Aus that many pros have played both at some stage which helps.

Passing in league is junk compared to rugby. They don't have the pressure (due to the 10m rule) that rugby do so the transfer isn't practiced nearly as much.

Hole running on the otherhand they are light years ahead.

I don't know. If there is an overlap or draw pass scenario they will nail it every time. Rugby not so much. Rugby has nice looking spirals but we don't have the quick hands every player on a league field does.

Not a target but a good lol from Willie Mason re Addo-Carr

"But what on earth was the big fella alluding to in his interview on Seven News this week regarding the Josh Addo-Carr scandal?

In the wake of Addo-Carr failing a roadside drug test for traces of cocaine in his system, the former Bulldogs enforcer said the under-fire winger needs to make better choices with who he hangs out with.

“He’s just messed up and I said it with Latrell (Mitchell). It’s the people you hang out with,” Mason said.

“Ten years ago if I’m in a predicament like that and I’m in that position, they go ‘don’t touch that, don’t touch that’.

“You’ve got three weeks, four weeks max and you can go to Vegas, you can go to Mexico, you can do what you want ... but not right now.”

Yeah - the argument that rugby backs are more skillful is pretty outdated. League skills are fantastic - but just in a much narrower range. And they are far more risk adverse due to the nature of the game but some of their passing and kicking is pin point.

DCE or Cleary are in a different galaxy to blokes like Noah and Donaldson in terms of skill execution and consistency.

In general Union may require a broader range of skills but if you compare the actual players playing the games Rugby loses by a significant margin.

For all the league fans that fantasise about the code having better “skill” set. In that catch pass etc.

Genuine question who has dominated union globally coming to the Xv game ?
Izzy ? Not for his catch pass etc maybe Matt Rogers. ??

Folau featured routinely in "World best XV" teams.

Sonny Bill did OK. Tuqiri was pretty good, whether he "dominated" or not, hard to say.

I would say you have to say Rogers and Folau were the best and they were exceptional. Sonny bill was very good too but often overrated.
No one else really comes to mind. Burgess and benji were duds.
Big dell and lote were just power wingers
