On the reds facebook feed they are saying he is being excluded from any rugby activity. I thought this would mean he is going to have no contact with the squad?

Probably the best outcome given the police/judicial processes would have to proceed a fair bit before they can officially sack him or allow him back.

Fucked situation but something can be salvaged if we pursue a no dickheads policy at the reds. We'll build a better team.

I'd probably just merge that one into this one as well. sick of opening multiple threads to read the same thing. Sometimes EXACTLY the same thing.

I also hate seeing the same thing in every thread, but Karmichael is gone from the Reds, he won’t be back his career is over, draw the line and split the threads... It would be good to discuss some other prospective players for the Reds 2018 season.. but it will be swamped in this Karmichael drama for the next few months... I don’t want to hear about karmichaels selfishness and arrogance every time I open the Reds thread.

The quotes from Hunt’s lawyer are breath-taking!

He’s just coming to terms with what’s in jeopardy? So presumably the last punishment meant very little to him.

The QRU and ARU deserve this situation as they were the ones who lacked the balls to terminate his contract the first time around.

Lawyers - lots of words saying and committing to nothing, even the drug dealer in this sorry saga has more ethics. He has no comment about the case as he hasn't got the police facts yet and had time to create a story around said facts to create reasonable doubt. Agree totally and said the same at the time of the first offence. Even if the eternal apologists convince people that drug use is the new "disease/medical condition" his "suffering" from said condition precludes him from the high performance career that he chose to pursue. In the same week that the latest figures have come out from the Bureau of Stats that show that Drug Driving now causes more fatalities than drink driving. Why do I fund injecting rooms for f*&^wits who want to shoot up and have to put up with the idiots killing on the roads but the government will not fund diabetes needles and insulin at the same level. Bye Hunt, good riddance.

The silly thing is, if the bloke just got a mate to do pick up for him and contained his use to his own home (or that of a trusted individual) he would've been sweet.

I don't really care what a bloke does to his own body as long as it's not cheating, particularly off season over the Christmas break, but fuck me it's silly given his personal history for him to do this. No lessons learned.

Hard to justify this bloke not losing his contract over this, but I'm sure best case a French Top 14 team will match his contract and worst case a Super League team in England will give him a decent salary. He'll be fine.

Not really. Thorn could not have forseen this.

Perhaps not. The depth of the squad was however ALWAYS right in front of his nose. Thorn was always going to rue the consequences of that particular action (cutting Quade). Only required time. Less than we might have thought as it turns out. In my mind it is in no way unreasonable to hold him to the consequences of that decision.

For now though, this is about Hunt.

Who I desperately want to offer the benefit of doubt and find a mechanism to offer him support. Nup, I've got little enough. Anyone else?

If a conviction is recorded how will he get a work visa? Considering how he got off last time do you honestly think that if proven he will get another non-conviction? Long way off getting the conviction and with his available funds to pay a "good" mouth piece it is not a lay down misere.

As Wayne Smith put it, ‘voluntarily stood down’ is a fairly liberal use of the term. Rest assured that he was told in no uncertain terms that he is unwelcome back at Ballymore. His contract termination is nothing more then a formality, but also one that they(RA and the QRU) can’t do without further insight into the legal outcome.

If I was a solicitor I would question the officers involved over what probable cause they had at the exact point in time of detaining Hunt for a search. The decision cannot be based on previous history and must be based on indicia displayed at the time. If the search is not legal then he might get off. As for the phone, unless they are stupid enough to admit to having incriminating data then there is a risk associated with police looking through messages at the time of seizing the phone, unless there in an emergent reason the phone should be seized for up to 28 days and then a warrant application made to enter the phone. Possessing drugs is not sufficient reason to search a phone unless the owner is really dumb. Personally I think police should be able to search anyone at anytime but the law does not permit this so the arguments will likely be around whether the search was lawful.

If you were a solicitor you'd know that the law in this country is not the same as in the US or as depicted on US TV

A couple of things come into play with this, remember Beale's axing was assured, then the ARU had a couple of pay outs to the "victim". Then we have to consider the precedent of Wendel Sailor. I'd suggest Hunt's career looks like taking the same course, he can go back to league and tell them how terribly he was treated in Rugby.

Plus, according to the weekend papers, Quade has not signed with anybody else. So if Thorn wants him, maybe the door is still open. I hope so, anyway. Although I must say that I hope more that Hunt will not be convicted (except, of course, in the fevered court of public speculation).

For the record, I have had one attempted smoke of ganja in my life, other than that, it has just been booze for me. But I have never been addicted to anything.

But, frankly, some of the comments and pontificating on threads like these are just sickening.

I wonder how many of the keyboard warriors would say this stuff to his face?

I imagine the pontificating is based on most members of this forums current income and previous passion for playing rugby, I have not played for about 20 years due to work commitment, I worked pretty much every weekend from 1996 to 2012 and then every second weekend from 2012 to present. I would still play if I was able to. I don't deny anyone the right to do illegal things like use drugs, it is your life do what you want. I have an issue with anyone who signs a contract to play a game they are supposed to love for over $2000 a day all year around who cannot say no to a drug that they can take as often as they want when they retire. $2000 a day and he cant say no? I never really had much talent but I would give up anything to play a game for a living and earn money that I cannot imagine and be a celebrity in my own town who possibly pays for next to nothing. I am not perfect but I imagine I could be for the money he was on....this is what makes me angry.

What a screw up. Was prepared to give KHunt the benefit of the doubt the first time round when people were baying for blood, but if this all turns out to be true then bye bye, don't let the door hit you on the arse.

As far as having QC (Quade Cooper) back, it makes sense in more than one way, but any form of sense has been lacking at Ballymore for a while now. Thorn won't want to eat his shit sandwich but hopefully he does, and that will be enjoyable.

apparently it doesn't, which is why it is the rec. drug of choice for sportspersons. use on Saturday OK to train Sunday/Monday. no hangover. i'm not talking about any potential psychological/physical addiction effects on training here.
That was always my assumption, I am still surprised more aren't caught, the stuff is everywhere and used heavily at any major venue. Shit Sydney had a taxi service to supply the stuff on call

Give young risk takers (sportsmen) good wages and easy availability ...... and as I said, we are lucky so few get caught

Yep, there's undoubtably more players that use it, largely due to the short amount of time it takes to leave the system. Probably most don't get caught because they are smart enough not to buy it in a car park in the Valley at 3.00am

I don’t understand that as luck - do you mean it’s lucky for the game’s reputation they don’t get caught? Presumably it’s illegal for a reason it must have some detrimental consequences for human health.

It sounds like some people think cocaine is recreational and that sounds like fun. But at the moment, it's still illegal. I like driving my car fast, but I obey the speed laws cos I'm law abiding, so by the same token, I haven't taken any cocaine and wont be doing any soon.
Any way, I found this on the internet so it must be true:

Long-term effects of cocaine use include:

insomnia and exhaustion
depression
anxiety, paranoia and psychosis
eating disorders and weight loss
sexual dysfunction (that's not good - imho)
hypertension and irregular heart beat
sensitivity to light and sound
hallucinations
cerebral atrophy (wasting of the brain) and impaired thinking.

Not sure what point I'm making, cos I'm not suggesting legalising cocaine, nor prohibition of alcohol.

But the long term effects (apart from weight loss) look very similar to those of alcohol (without the violence)

Nah it certainly leaves a hangover... I was very good mates with an athlete, he was usually an extremely dedicated trainer, would train through anything and do his own extras up to twice a day. But the dumb prick would occasionally go on cocaine benders, if he took it Friday night, he would be a sack of shit Sunday to Tuesday and it would take him until the next Wednesday/Thursday before the hangover truely wore off and he could train 100% again.

It’s not a hangover like alcohol, but the feeling of coming down from the high and the energy levels consumed to process it through your system take a few days to recover depending on the quantity consumed.
