I understand what you are saying, but weighting them differently for individual honours does not mean they are officially tiered.

The ranking points for each team are determined depending on the team they play, and their position, so why couldn't we use a similar system for individual ranking points (ie weight it depending on the raking position of the opposition)?

Or would you prefer that world ranking points aren't determined on the opposition at all, just on whether you win or lose?

Not sure what is with the rather infantile obsession of sticking you finger in another's ear while the are on camera that some other players have though. Also disappointed at how scruffy some of the players look and how badly their suits fitted. Looks like they were just pulled off the rack - surely the aru can afford to have a tailor make adjustments?

I think most people would consider 'infantile' and 'kid' to mean two different things. You obviously don't agree with what I said, maybe the first part of your post could have been left out, the second part would have achieved what you wanted to say.

Here is a question for you: Do you think that the top players 'value' a test match vs Italy as highly as one vs New Zealand?

So you're saying the best player against the USA has automatically not played as well as the best player against New Zealand simple because of the opposition. The best player is still the best player and the opposition is irrelevant.

For an award, they need to be treated the same. If you started weighting the various teams you were playing then it would become too much of a moving feast. You would need to reassess the weightings each year as teams improve and go backwards. Do you rate home and away tests differently? Do you rate a win and a loss differently? You would probably need to assess the ratings at the end of the season as well. If you lose to Wales on the Spring Tour and had rated them fairly lowly in terms of the John Eales Medal and then they go on to win the 6 Nations and beat South Africa and New Zealand, the low rating you gave them at the start of the year would be ridiculous.

I just think any form of weighting the test matches for the player of the season award would cause far more problems than it would solve.

Kurtley Beale deserved to win. He played every single test match (albeit coming off the bench against Samoa) and was a key player in the team. Sqeeky Moore was second after also having a very consistent season where he played almost every game.
