i didnt state we have lots of wingers lining up. but with foley, morahan and a couple of other guys we do have options and we can move some of the players around to accommodate a reshuffle. we have been forced in the past to continue to pick players based on past prowess and reputation who have been secure due to a lack of any options.

i really don't have a great opinion of his rugby more than anything else, especially this year.

i notice in your post you are talking about his past test rugby performances. sure - he used to deliver. but he simply hasn't been delivering this season, and certainly not to the standard you'd expect from a world class winger. at best i'd rate his season as just above average.

For all his antics and attitude JOC (James O'Connor) hasn't been that bad this year and most people would produce a pretty long list of worse performing players before they got to him.

Even a mark of just above average is pretty good given how most people would rate the Wobs as a whole this year.

I'm not going to comment on this particular incident as what actually happened has yet to emerge. But he's definitely a guy who would benefit from having more discipline in his life.

Yeah, I don't disagree with this.

At this point I expect JOC (James O'Connor) will go to South Africa though.

If they do ditch him, I'd prefer for Foley to get a test cap at fullback than CFS on the wing. How long since CFS played club rugby? At least Foley played last weekend.

Sautia played the last three rounds for Souths at outside centre, he was very good to.

As for the "Oh, it's nothing to get escorted out by the AFP" comments, well, that's frankly bizarre.
Absolutely. It's like these commentators are escorted by Federal Police on a daily basis. Nothing to see here...

Scrubber2050, after the Wobs you can roll through the rest of the Soup franchises professionals, and then the Academies Lists and the Shute Shield, John I Dent, and Brissie Prem club lists, and you'd struggle to assemble a list as long as the 4 Muppeteers have assembled. One of them seems to be doing the right things now which is good news, the other is off to Frogland.

Then there were two.
Who is the one that is doing the right things and who is the one off to France?

Looks like it's open slather. according to the rugby club anyway.

At 23yo, James O’Connor is no longer a kid and undoubtedly has great rugby skills. But he can no longer claim to be “young and naïve” like other well-known Australians (even when in their 30’s!).

To throw a “hissy-fit” in public (as on board a commercial flight) and having to be removed by Aust Federal Police, even in his own time is unacceptable.

As a well-paid elite sportsman he also has responsibilities to the sport. The reason why he is in big demand for autographs and photos is that he such a role-model for his adoring fans (many of them kids). He honours his post-game fan contact obligations extremely well - although too often gives the impression of not being too engaged.

JOC (James O'Connor) needs to grow-up quickly or he will blow the opportunity being offered to him (in much the same way as did Lote Tuqiri and so many others (all of whom had their own problems). He could easily become one of the “untouchables”/”unteachables” and be lost from the game. At this stage he has not developed a skill-set to be able to make a life outside rugby.

There is no doubt that JOC (James O'Connor) is trying to move forward but his problems are diverse and complex:
1. It is now a change for the better that he is no longer being managed by his father.
2. It’s disappointing that he is a regular smoker which has to affect his performance/fitness.
3. It’s also disappointing that he rejected mentoring by an experienced international sportsman when last with the Force.
4. It’s a shame that he shows little respect for constructive input from more experienced players who have shown a total commitment to the sport.
5. I truly wonder if he really values playing in the Green and Gold as much as he says that he does. Many of our past great players showed more commitment for pocket money!!!
6. He will always be judged by the company that he keeps and his chosen playgrounds. In both areas he continues to make extremely poor choices. Melbourne WAS NOT a good move for him as just too much temptation and ratbag mates feeding off each other.

Despite this most recent transgression, I believe that he has much to offer the Western Force and should be given at least a 2 year contract BUT only IF (and I can’t make that IF big enough) he shows a TOTAL commitment to the Team Rules and player/playing culture that has been, and is still being, developed at the Western Force. He has to show respect for his Coach, Captain and Leadership team. He has to earn the respect of the playing squad, all support staff and the Sea of Blue. It’s not going to be easy as many nin these groups don't think it's worht the risk!!

The Western Force has recently shown that talented individuals who want to do things their way to the detriment of the team have no place in the squad. The best example is Alfie Mafi who was rightly let go at a time when he was equal top try scorer in the SVX in 2013.

JOC (James O'Connor) also has to accept that his asking price is way below what it was two years ago. He should not be part of any leadership group and do his time/earn respect over again and let his rugby consistently show his being one of the most exciting utility backs in Australian and World Rugby.

I would love to see some of that fantastic ability that he showed in 2009 a bit more often.

I was in Hong Kong on 30 October 2011 when the Wallabies last defeated the All Blacks mostly due to the great efforts of one James O’Connor.

It would be a shame if rugby fans lost the opportunity to again feel that joy of that 26-24 win!!

worst case - "tired and emotional" from over indulging and arguing/abusing staff : removed from Wallabies at least for 12 months.

A 12 month ban for a warning on being pissed and mouthing off? Ridiculous when players who have actually been charged by police for assault or burglary were still playing the whole way through.

They should fine the little shit $20 grand and then look at a stand-down for a match or two, possibly suspended.

What did Cooper get? A two match suspended sentence?

Beale got a cuddle and a kiss-it-better.

After Folau I'd say he's been our second best back in the Rugby Championship so far. The votes in the MOTM threads probably reflect that too I'd guess.

I agree that his 2013 test form hasn't been his best, but he's been close to our most threatening player in attack. Pretty much our entire team have been below their best form. Key players like Moore and Genia have been massively below their best.

If you ignored the disciplinary issues he would be absolutely nowhere near being dropped.

aahhh but what a word 'close' is.

i don't think he has been our most dangerous, let alone our second most dangerous player in attack at all, so i think we need to agree to disagree on this.

i also think that we can't ignore the issues that any individual player brings to the team at the moment, whether its performance (the bloody pigs and inability to scrummage), below par (genia et al) or discipline (brand o'bieber).

i'm not prepared to excuse away anything that doesn't meet the requirements of the team to win, and win well.

otherwise i'd need to change my avatar to 'oh no, we suck again' and start muttering about next year and our new '3 year, 30 year plan'

Whoever is advising Bieber isn't doing a very good job.

Not fessing up to the ARU in the first instance was not a good strategy.

Did they think that they wouldn't seek corroboration?

It does not sound good. The playing group by way of Horwill and Sharpe are sending a strong message to the ARU.

Ok.
No ban but just don't pick him until he goes 12 mths without an incident.

"Homebrand" O'Connor.........

Beale has signed with the Waratahs and it’s considered a wise move because he will be closer to family and friends as he wages his public battle with alcoholism. That was something not lost on those who spotted him on holiday in Bali earlier this month ... drinking alcohol.
Wallabies players aren’t so much concerned about Beale but O’Connor, who they describe as ‘‘manipulative’’ and ‘‘cunning’’. Their new nickname for ‘‘Brand O’Connor’’ is ‘‘Homebrand’’. As in Woolworths’ range of everyday household products at great value for money.

Not sure about that. This incident aside (or included, depending on the police report), a pattern of excessive alcohol consumption has emerged in this young man's life. That's fine if he wants to do that but the people invested in Australian rugby, administrators and fans alike, should be allowed to ask the question, how much is too much?

The market sets the salary, not the employee, so just climb down from your high horse for a second. I'm sure there are plenty of people that invested in your life as well. Is it ok if your old year 7 science teacher comes up to you in the street and asks what salary you earn, then asks how you divvy it up?

As for the "excessive" alcohol consumption, I am not sure what you are measuring this against. When I was in my early 20's I was pretty much wasted every Friday and Saturday night. My point being, that a 23 year old piss head in Australia is not very unique.

It isn't so black and white that his choices are that he can be a 23 year old party boy, or a 23 year old Wallaby. He can be both, just not so much of the first one in public.

If Wallaby players are getting wasted every Friday and Saturday night it might explain a few things........

Maybe JOC (James O'Connor) needed Kurtley to tell the other passenger(s) they weren't allowed to sit there because it was O'Connor's seat?

If only Cooper Vuna had been at the airport, we could have had a live blog of the whole event

The flight steward who JOC (James O'Connor) had an argument with was allegedly a nice Welsh fellow by the name of Gareth D.

Some interesting developments. Sharpie doesn't have much good to say about JOC (James O'Connor)'s standing within the team.

And team rehab captain, James Horwill, is not exactly excited about the whole incident.

It's also clear that the ARU is now running a full investigation, including interviews with the AFP and Air Asia.

The comments by Sharpie as a player, captain and coach involved with Homebrand are pretty damning as they have to be pretty close to the mark.
