The saving grace was I sat up expecting mediocrity, so I was well satisfied. Nice workout for slipper. Terrible handling cost them.

I didn't think Moore was rubbish at all...
Obviously Alexander was one of the standouts of the pack for me... he held up well in the scrum and did plenty around the field...
Our locks were disappointing and Pocock didn't play his best game...
But yes, that was the worst refereeing performance of any Wallaby game I've seen this year...

Slipper actually went quite well, 2 penalties were a direct attribute to him, another one was against Alexander, however the others were against the forward pack as a whole backpedaling...Moore went pretty well, and the locks were a big improvement on last week, plenty of involvement at the breakdown.
Scrum obviously wasn't great, there were really 2 wallaby scrums on the park tonight, the one prior to the subs and the one after the subs.. Il start with the starting forward pack, there were maybe one or two penalties there that went unfairly against the Wallabies, the Italians milked the perceived strength and collapsed a few times on there own feed. IMO it took a bit for the Australians to figure it out, but from about 30min onwards the Australians had the Italians reasonably matched..
After the subs, the Wallaby scrum was crock, to hard to really pinpoint a specific person at fault, probably a culminative effect..

Playing against Italy, Australia had lots to lose and not much to gain. If they lose it is a disgrace, and if they win (even by a distance) 'it was only Italy'.
The good news is they won, and didn't really look like losing at any time during the match. The bad news (if there can ever be bad news when you win) is that the Wallabies were far from dominant, disciplined and consistent. In many ways they barely got into their stride.
The Italian scrum was stronger, and benefited from the Australian 'reputation' during the first half. In the second half, the Aussies showed better scrum tactics (Slipper kept straight and eventually the Italians were penalised for boring in).
As expected, the Italian forwards matched the Wallabies well, but their backs were outclassed. Both sides wasted multiple attacking opportunities.
Barnes' goal kicking was top class, although the prize for best goal goes to the Italian 10 for his goal from half way.
The performance doesn't bode well for the France match, but maybe the challenge ahead will mean the boys up their intensity and execution.

Inconsistency again and let's not think that it's any different from the EOYT last year or any year - or for the whole year any year for the best part of ten years.
In particular, it wasn't any better from the last two games against Italy in Italy.
France next week. Let's hope that Skrela is playing again and misses all those penalties as he did last time. We are going to need something like that. Speaking of which: one of the few good things about the Italy game was the goal kicking of Barnes.
As for winning a few games in a row next year at a certain tournament: how full is the glass on that one?

Pretty good summary there. Awful game to watch. Strangely enough, with the bokke going down now at murrayfield, the wobblies go back up to #2 on the back of that performance...
I suppose the saffers aren't the greatest touring side anyway, and tonight it looks like they they followed our mob from last year. Scots and Italians - dour rugby but it sometimes works for them.
