ISA 2018

Not sure what the coach of Auggies is doing with his backline this year?
Figure this out, team vs Scots:
9 Lussick, played his rep career at 12/13
10 Wilson, played nsw 2s 13 in 2017
11 Roberts, at Sanix started every game at 9
12 Lehmann, whole career to date at 13/14
13 McKenzie, only seen at 14 to date
14 Bamford, legitimate winger.
15 Ala, is a sydney junior rep 13
Talk about testing his players under pressure.
There is plenty of athletic talent to challenge Scots but there is not enough ‘rugby’ to get the job done, in my opinion.

This weeks ISA Games:

Pats 1 v Aloys 1
Oakhill 1 v Joeys 3
Auggies 1 v Scots 1
Pius 1 v Scots 3
Stannies 1 v Kings 1
Kinross 1 v Kings 2
Gregs 1 v TAS 1

I will cross-post this on the GPS thread. Focusing on Gregs1 v TAS1.

Looking at some previous results:
  • Cranbrook 26 defeated St Gregs 10. Cranbrook 46 defeated TAS 14.
  • St Gregs 50 defeated Grammar 10 TAS 24 defeated Grammar 6.
Recognising that TAS is travelling with Gregs having the home ground advantage and on these numbers, Gregs has to be favoured. It should be a very good match though.

Pats 1 v Aloys 1
Oakhill 1 v Joeys 3
Auggies 1 v Scots 1
Pius 1 v Scots 3
Stannies 1 v Kings 1
Kinross 1 v Kings 2
Gregs 1 v TAS 1

Another interesting line-up of fixtures for this week - these fixtures will definitely show where each team is at, relative to the other teams. Auggies v Scots and Stannies v Kings will be the matches of the round for sure with the best of the ISA going against the best of the GPS. Pats and Oakhill's fixtures will allow for some comparison to occur between the two as they reverse fixtures from last week.

It is good to see another big GPS school take their teams over the mountains to Bathurst/Orange - I'm sure this reduced pre-season travel for the country teams will serve them well for the season.

What is everyone's tips for this Saturday?

Aloys by 20
Joeys by 12
Scots by 20
Pius by 3
Stannies by 5
Kinross by 14
Gregs by 14

The Pius 1 v Scots 3 may be an interesting match because the results so far are all over the park.

Aloys 1 81 defeated Pius 7; Joeys 3 seem to have defeated Aloys 1 24-14: I say seemed because one results I have says Joeys won, a second Aloys!; Aloys 1 36 defeated Sydney Grammar 1 3; Cranbrook 1 29 defeated Pius 7; Scots 3 won against Newington 3 33-5 but were defeated by Joeys 3rds 24-21; Scots 3 defeated High 1 19-5.

Sorry to give you a burst of results. I really do need to set up a spreadsheet.

The Alloys v Pius result strikes me as an outsider given the other results, with the Cranbrook result providing a better guide. Here Pius did better than both TAS and Grammar. Based on results to date, I expect TAS with Scots to be two of the challengers To Joeys as the early favourite in the GPS Thirds comp.

This will be an interesting match. Sentiment says Pius, but the results so far say Scots to win. But who knows?!

I am out of time! So looking at the whole field:
  • Alloys to win against Pats
  • Joeys 3 to win against Oakhill
  • Scots to win against Auggies
  • Scots 2 to win against Pius
  • Kings 1 to win against Stannies
  • Kinross to win against Kings 2, although that may be more emotion than logic
  • Gregs to shade TAS.

In the interests of getting some solid cross association banter going, I'd say.

Take your GPS goggles off QH! :)

Pats
Joeys 3 (but not by much)
Scots
Scots 3
Stannies by a whisker
Kinross by a bit more and
Gregs by not much

Just honest opinion. If you go to the GPS thread, you'll notice that I have tipped some CAS teams to beat GPS opponents.

In any event, we'll know by Saturday night.

My understanding is Pius lost to High so would expect Scots 3 to be favourites v Pius

Coming over from the CAS forums and an Aloys supporter,
Aloys are contenders in CAS this year while Cranbrook are competing for the bottom of the table.
I'm not saying anything bad about Pius but the 81 point thrashing was because Aloys was the far superior side even though it was a term 1 trial. It will be very interesting to see the Pats game this weekend as the Aloys boys are looking forward to a tough game and from the look. of it the 1's team is missing some key forwards so it could be an excellent chance for pats to potentially grab a scalp. However methinks Aloys by 20

Scotsman,

Having watched the Barker team completely destroy Pats 75-5, and defeat a strong Kings side at Kings, and Shore 73-0, Aloys will probably need to win well, even without some key forwards, if not, Aloys will struggle to be CAS contenders, although I hope you are right.

At the moment, Scots and Barker are at the top of the tree in GPS and CAS comps,in the ISA it appears to be either Stannies or Auggies both have big games this weekend.

WLF,

Well if you want to get technical, Trinity beat pats by 26, they then beat Joeys who put 81 on shore while Barker only put on 73 so no offence but judged off your logic of the higher the score the better the team, if Joeys should beat Barker this weekend and if somehow they do that down in Hornsby then Trinity are the CAS shoe-ins.

Just goes to show if a team gets thrashed one week they can put in a very tough performance the next week as I'm sure every supporter hopes for. No-one enjoys watching a one-sided game, its no good for players development in either team and I'm sure Pats will be a great test for Aloys depth as well as a huge test of physicality as all Pats teams are known for that.

Besides, because of Barkers great development contending in CAS this year is more a discussion of who will come second

But this is an ISA thread lets not have this conversation here

Ha Scotsman,

No.1 I hope Aloys are the real deal, I have 2 nephews who are Aloys boys, and some good Aloys mates, so I hope you are right. I don't exactly follow all your logic eg Trinity beat Pats by 26 but Barker beat Pats by 70!

I am not sure Pats are a real threat this year but others may be able to enlighten us on this.
Barker are not over the line yet.

I would not call Pats a threat this year but rather in their usual spot of contending for the middle spots on the table. The nature of the ISA comp means defeating heavyweights such as Stannies and Auggies is always a challenge.

In saying this, the game tomorrow will hopefully be a competitive one and will offer Aloys a good test of where they are that. I expect Aloys will get up but for Pats sake hopefully, it is more competitive than the game last week against Oakhill.

It is fantastic to see some actual discussion about ISA Rugby teams on this forum. I believe this is a testament to the new combined trial process - we all get to leave our association bubbles!

Looking forward to a great day of rugby tomorrow!

Spot on Mr ISA, and about time, much more interesting now.

Wasn't that long ago when these "trial" games were being joked about.

I hope now everyone is enjoying a much more interesting week by week series of games.
