Few more results from the GPS thread:

Auggies 33
Newington 27

Riverview 1st XV 38
Kinross 17

Gregs 50
Grammar 10

The Auggies result is not a massive surprise considering their form.

Kinross must have played some great footy to achieve that result (especially when considering the Stannies result).

The Gregs result shows they seem to be in-line with Pats going off their fixture with Grammar back in April (but we have to see more before we can judge Greg's due to the nature of the team)

Combined with the Oakhill score, I think it is reasonable to consider Auggies the frontrunners in the ISA Comp now with the game between Stannies and Kinross sure to be an absolute cracker (even though it almost always is).

Gregs/Pats/Oakhill seem to be on a similar level as well and should mean we will have some close, competitive games ahead.

Pius is clearly at the back of the pack and will do well to win a game.

That's how I see it... any other opinions?

any standouts for Pats or did they just all have an off game

The usual suspects were the standouts... Big centre/fly-half Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) is always dangerous with the ball in hand + solid in defence. Harry Armour/Tommy Brooks were probably the standout forwards who actually looked like they wanted it... the rest of the team played like they didn't want to win.

Plenty to work on this week before a bit game against Aloys.

What's the deal with Oakhill this season?

Are they just going through a cycle and happen to have a lower quality Open's squad this season?

Usually always there thereabouts - don't want to talk too soon but seems to be an exception this season

Yep - like most teams that don't use scholarships sometimes you have strong teams, sometimes you have weaker teams... that is just the way it goes. They will still be competitive however thanks to their depth and large numbers.

Oakhill this year will be similar to last...

Probably best said in another forum, but you can always gauge the strength of a program when it's scholarship free can't you. Always admired Oakhill for this reason.

Agree. Did not want to get too much into it but the strength of the Oakhill program over a number of years is clear.

How do you think Auggies will go against Scots this weekend? If Auggies are the favs in the ISA, Scots would be one of the favs in the GPS.

I watched the Waverley v Scots game on the weekend. Scots have a very well drilled forward pack. They won several scrums against the feed and tackled ferociously. Their backline is yet to gel, so maybe a weakness for Auggies to exploit? They put 50 points to zip on Newington two weeks ago, but I think it is their defence that is so impressive. Auggies will have to be at their very best to challenge them.

I agree, the result will give everyone a rough idea on how competitive Stannies will be this year against Auggies, considering the 20-7 game earlier with Scots vs stannies.

Kinross looking to have a dominant year. Excited to see what happens this year for them. Even gregs could slide in up there after some nice wins.

Anyone know much about oaks size this year in forwards? In previous years they have been known to produce some monster forward packs.

Don't know too much about pats but prior to them getting belted in a few games they were getting talked up a lot. Hopefully they are more competitive come the ISA season.

All in all this should be a very interesting season for ISA.

Just to keep things in perspective Auggies will be taking on a better Scots team than the one Stannies faced in the first trial game of the season. Also several of Scots key players including Savala didn’t play against Stannies. This is not taking anything away from Stannies performance. They were gutsy and didn’t stop trying all game.

This weeks ISA Games:

Pats 1 v Aloys 1
Oakhill 1 v Joeys 3
Auggies 1 v Scots 1
Pius 1 v Scots 3
Stannies 1 v Kings 1
Kinross 1 v Kings 2
Gregs 1 v TAS 1

Another interesting line-up of fixtures for this week - these fixtures will definitely show where each team is at, relative to the other teams. Auggies v Scots and Stannies v Kings will be the matches of the round for sure with the best of the ISA going against the best of the GPS. Pats and Oakhill's fixtures will allow for some comparison to occur between the two as they reverse fixtures from last week.

It is good to see another big GPS school take their teams over the mountains to Bathurst/Orange - I'm sure this reduced pre-season travel for the country teams will serve them well for the season.

What is everyone's tips for this Saturday?
