Ireland v Wallabies - Sunday 1 Dec, 2:10 AEDT

Missed the game live due to the birth of my son the night before (yay!) and only just catching up now. Most of my thoughts have already been said, but just two comments: Turinui called the Ireland ruck shenanigans at like the 7th minute (“The Wallabies need to watch out here”). He’s got such a good analytical eye for the commentary box. And also, Wright really put his body on the line twice and got folded, but in doing so completed two huge plays. The final pass to Jorgenson for his try, and the ruck turnover penalty. Tough stuff, deserves a call out.

McReight:
- won five turnovers
- try saving tackle
- game leading 21 tackles
- made a game leading four tackle busts too
- passed four times too

The King is dead, long live the King!
McReight gotta be up there now with some of the best 7s in the world, he was clearly better then JVDF that whole game, and has been against every opposite number he's come up against this year. Not saying PSDT level, but he's not far behind.

Pieter Stephanus du Toit isn't really an openside and the Springbok don't really have one. They sort of run left and right flankers at the moment. Anyway, comparing him to Mcreight isn't really going to work, as they don't really do the same thing. Both fantastic players though.

In our numbered,

Best backrow in the world atm is

6. PSDT 7. Mcreight 8. Doris/Savea/Valetini/Alldritt (bit harder)

He’s only there for his goal kicking.
Lol clearly not.. but I won't rehash all the conversations, but if Donaldson was the answer he'd be playing. His not, which means what his putting out at training and in games isn't up to it.

Eh this argument doesn't always work. Ikitau/Lolesio weren't taken to the RWC etc.
And it was a different coach who won 2 games across a whole season. We also had Carter Gordon who was clearly picked in front of Donaldson (and lkike in every team his been ever picked in, not first choice) But then again, Donaldson started that Wales game, and the Argentina games. how'd they turn out. Ikitau was injured, and Eddie's a wanker. Maybe if he had picked Lolesio instead of Donaldson, we would have beaten more than Georgia and Portugal.

We would be here bitching about Donaldson's inconsistency if he was picked at 5/8, his goal kicking and the bunch of howlers he makes during games. The consistent whinging is annoying, its the same group who wanted Kellaway at fullback in front of Wright.

I went back and had a look at some of Lolesio's kicks - someone on Reddit put up the times - and what I really noticed was just how bad McDermott's passing was.
I think this is our missing piece.

When was the last time we had a halfback who was considered top 3-5 in the world? Maybe Genia 2015? Long time ago now.

We get glimpses from all three of our 9s but never really a commanding performance. If we had a halfback with a good pass, decent box kick and a genuine running threat then I think it would take us to the moon. At present we've got three halfbacks who can do one of those three things each.

I think White flirted with top 5 a couple years ago

He had top 5 games but couldn't sustain it. Perth 2019 Bledisloe springs to mind. It shows the importance of that position - when they are red hot we can do great things, but without consistency we tend to struggle.

Yeah, the fact we've rotated between Gordon, White and Tate for the last few years shows that we don't have a solution.
White - Refs hate him and his getting on
Gordon - Too slow (to breakdown and decision making). In my eyes he doesn't possess that precision pass off the deck.
Tate - Unreliable pass
Jeez I hope Teddy kicks on, looks like he's got that competitive dog in him. And I'm one of the many that froth Werchon's crisp pass and his handy left boot.
The main reason the ABs were so good is the phenomenal service he provided the backline. So fast to the breakdown, impeccable pass and had a way of screaming and carrying on without annoying the ref.

I will never be convinced this is anything other than refs swinging off the ABs nuts. As much as I rated him Owens was the worst for this.

You can't tell me TJP doesn't automatically annoy the fuck out of you merely for existing.
