I would love to know why McCaffrey could make the Tahs bench, but wasn't given any game time, and then just disappeared from the bench

He actually got 9 mins on the park after he replaced Dennis against the Cheetahs but his stats were zero.

Why he and others didn't get longer stints in Tahs games when they were well won early - Lions, Cheetahs, Hurricanes - was bad coaching in my book. And I remember TPN nursing his shoulder once and Fitzy was parked on the bench for too long. But I digress.

It's a mystery and I thought when I saw your query that it was to keep McCaffrey interested as a pro academy player - but I looked it up and he had already been given a 2 year contract for 2011 and 2012 weeks before. It's strange why a future contracted player wasn't given all the game time he could get in games ostensibly won.

I was a bit puzzled as to why he wasn't used again but the following two games were against the Crusaders and the Brumbies; so I didn't mind so much that he missed out on the 22 for them.

Query - does playing 9 minutes in a Super season disqualify Caff from being categorised as a rookie in 2011? It probably does - but it is not Oz U/20 business.

Just spoke to a mate who is good friends with McCaffrey and apparently he is on his way to Argentina as a replacement for Michael Hooper, who was injured in a trail game against Argentina. Not sure if it was his shoulder again? Im sure we will hear soon. Happened in the first few minutes of the game.

Welcome aboard intheknow - don't worry about the odd gaffe but if you make too many you will have to join the Lee Grant club.

Here is the team for Scotland in there opening match of the JWC, there are few strange decisions, however i suppose squad managment is crtical for this tournament and he may in turn be resting some players

Australian U20s team to play Scotland (15-1): Luke Morahan, Aidan Toua , Kimami Sitauti, Robbie Coleman, Greg Jeloudev, Matt To’omua (vc), Justin Turner, Jake Schatz (capt), Liam Gill, Colby Fainga'a, Greg Peterson, Phoenix Battye, Paul Alo-Emile, Siliva Siliva, Cruze Ah-Nau. Res: Salesi Manu, Sam Roberson, Luke Jones, Ed Quirk, Nick White, Jono Lance, Damon Anderson.

Seems close to the team I expected other than Battye ahead of Jones which I'd assume would be to do with match fitness.... and it's only Scotland

I was going to write again not to read too much into this team but when you compare it to the trial team against Argentina there is a similarity that can't be random. So maybe I am wrong and Nuci is playing his top team from go to woah, but it would be unusual to do that.

It could be also that he is playing his best team in the 1st two games (the trial the other day and Scotland), giving everybody else a starting run against Tonga, then finishing the tournament against South Africa and in the finals, if they make them, with the 1st XV .

The starting forwards are identical to those in the trial match except that Gill replaces the injured Hooper. The starting backs are the same also except that Jelly replaces Shipperly. The reserves are basically the same also taking into account the two players who had to go home.

If that XV is what Nuci thinks is his best starting side then it's a bit of a surprise to see that Jones is on the bench, but he would be a gun impact player as would Quirk be. I thought also that LHP prop Salesi Manu would be running on based on his good form for Manly, though nobody east of Perth would have seen a lot of Cruze Ah-Nau in senior rugby.

If they are listed in jersey number order it is odd that Morahan is playing fullback instead of Toua again, when Toua was a fullback specialist when I knew him - and Morahan can play both positions.

And winger Situati is playing outside centre. Seems strange also but he is a robust player and Bennetts had to go home. There must be something wrong with Cameron Mitchell also, as he was ostensibly the reserve 13 when the players left Oz, but he hasn't been named in either 22 to date.

I see that the TV coverage of games will be as sparse as it was last year. This is no fault of Foxtel but it is what the IRB has contracted with the highest bidder for production of TV broadcasts in Europe, the biggest market, and they flog them off to broadcasters such as Foxtel. Or maybe the IRB employ a production company directly and flog them off themselves; I don't know.

The big markets of England and France get to see their teams in all their 3 pool games - as does the host nation - and the 3N nations get only two pool games, and one broadcast neatly covers both Oz and the RSA. It sucks that we will see Oz just once unless they make the finals, but nothing can be done about it.

No other games are televised anywhere though there will be a camera at all matches for news feeds.

Here is the list of games that will be televised. They will not be live in Oz - at least in the first week for which we have confirmed times. Watch for confirmed Foxtel dates and times in other weeks.

5 June

Pool B 14:10 France v Ireland Rosario [Fox Sports 3 - Sunday 6th 10 am - 1pm]
Pool B 16:10 Argentina v England Rosario [Ditto]

Pool B 14:10 England v France Rosario
Pool B 16:10 Argentina v Ireland Rosario
Pool C 16:10 S. Africa v Australia Santa Fe

17 June

BJ - These will be the same games as listed above but they would have the benefit of being live - so worth a look if the quality is good.

The first day's matches televised on Foxtel are about 7hrs delayed and the second day's about 10 hours delayed.

Apparently Mitchell and Shipperley are carrying a couple of niggling injuries but will be ggod to go for the next game, and Anderson is yet to arrive.

If it is the first choice team then yes it is suprising to see toua on the wing as I always thought the best part of his game was how he brought the ball back to the line so I imagine him and morahan will be swapping roles during games to mix it up. Seems suprising to leave quirk out of the back row considering aus 20 packs generally get outmuscled, I'm thinking maybe nucifora has resigned himself to losses in the contest up front and just wants to play a very quick, expansive game? Hopefully will see mitchell fit again as I feel sitauti is more of a winger

any thoughts on the Morahan at 15, Toua at wing selection and not vice versa?

Yes, I have plenty and none of them are positive. Aidan Toua is specialist fullback who has the full gamut of skills to really make a fist of senior rugby. He is under 12 months back from a knee recon which traditionally take 18 months to get 100%.

Morahan on the other hand is your 'Sosene Anesi' type fullback. He can play there, but he probably shouldn't. His kicking game is average, he is not creative will ball in hand and he doesn't read space well. However don't get my wrong I think he is almost the prototype winger, and could genuinely become world class.

They need to stopping fucking Toua around and let him have a crack at getting his career back on track. He is a pleasure to watch when he is fit and confident and is a master of counter attack.
