@MarkBeretta: Australian Rugby Union will make an announcement regarding the future of Rugby in Sydney today.

1. Does that mean an announcement regarding Rugby in Sydney or an announcement in Sydney about Rugby?

2. Any guesses?

I got an email from the ARU this morning telling me to brace myself for the new generation Lexus GS. Must be that.

In all seriousness I think it has to be related to the rumoured new premier club rugby competition of 10 teams (4 from Brisbane, 4 from Sydney, 1 each from Melbourne and Canberra). Maybe one of Greg Growden's rumours is about to actually be correct for once!

Hopefully they will confirm that it does have a future rather than an announcement that they're turning off the life support.

It may well be a good sign. I cannot recall any previous occasion where the ARU has given any attention to this matter.

Great line Bruce!

I hope its not that stupid 10 team shute sheild thing, IF that happens, they completely isolate anyone whos not from uni or randwick (not like those people care if they isolate others) a reminder that in the top 4, there are two teams not from the eastern suburbs, including the one which smashes everyone to bits and is way out in front.

Weren't the four Sydney teams going to be based largely around Easts/Randwick, Uni, Manly/Warringah, Eastwood/Gordon or something to that effect.

Realistically, it should be 5 Sydney teams, 3 Brisbane teams and 1 each from Canberra and Melbourne to reflect the fact that the majority of Australian Super Rugby players play in Sydney.

They may play in sydney, but they come from queensland.

I hope its a club competition announcment, but one where the clubs change every year based on season performances.

Problem with choosing from the existing Sydney teams will always be the area it ignores, a Sydney/eastern suburbs, north shore, western Sydney and central coast should be what's promoted in order to secure the old boys and promote the future, what they will end up with though will be Sydney centric to the extreme.

I hear there also talking up a new slogan "you may know me if you hav pay tv or have turned up to a pub early watch an NRL atch but if you watch ABC 2 at 1pm on a Saturday you may see a 1/2 hour highlights package I feature in a bit as long as there isn't a netball test on.......yet"

Bruce - you'll recall our joint expression of cynical hilarity when, at the last big 'ARU announcement relating to the future of Australian rugby', it all turned out to be the truly epoch-making news that yet more BC games were to be played at that scintillating Sydney rugby stadium so beloved by rugby fans everywhere, the ANZ.

How could I ever forget, RH? In matters of crafting lead balloon announcements the ARU concedes to no one.

They set the bar so low with that one that it would indeed be a challenge for them to come up with something even more banal. But I for one would never underestimate their collective genius.

Lifting the ban on singing and chanting at the SFS and will increase the beer queues from one to a whopping two.

Heard on the grapevine that the announcement relates to Robbie Deans being re-signed until 2050.

In line with bruce's comments; maybe they are announcing to Australian's who don't have Foxtel that we won the Trinations on the wekeend.
