Iain Payten has said it's at 3pm regarding a test at the SFS in future years.

Hardly grand about the "Future of Rugby".

bit of a hyperbole isn't it?
That will be great if they are getting tests back to the SFS though.

so next year australia will have three home tri nations games and probably four inbound tests?
Tri nations - NZ in Sydney, SA in Brisbane, Argentina in Gold Coast (this one should be in melbourne given the amount of argies down here)
in bounds - 1 in perth, 1 in melbourne, 1 in brisbane and 1 in sydney presumably.
on this basis, i'd suspect the announcement is about a reasonably good squad coming to australia for a tour and playing at the SFS. Ireland and England would attract huge crowds. My guess is Wales, France or Italy are coming down and will play 1 of 2 tests there.

Isn't it about time for next year's Super Rugby Draw to be released?

Maybe it's that, plus the line up of Tests in 2012.

the draw is coming out soon they've announced who will play who, just not the order and dates etc. check out the rebels here
http://www.melbournerebels.com.au/SuperRugby/RaboDirectRebelsFixtures.aspx
very good line up for us in terms of opposition quality.

Draw for the whole S15 2012 is already done and at least part-published as we Reds fans/members got the full, detailed 2012 draw at the Reds Gala Dinner on August 20.

E.g.:

Reds v Rebels Brisbane 7:40pm Bris time (although I think this was meant to be AEDT, not AEST as was announced as above) Sat March 10, 2012

Rebels v Reds Melbourne 7:40pm Fri June 29, 2012

Agree regarding Argies.

The Welsh have a 3 tour test down here next year. Perth and Melbourne will get one each logically. Etihad will be the venue.

company i work for has an ownershp position in etihad, so i'll query with the correct gents if they are in discussions for hosting the game.

Perhaps then it is a welsh test at the SFS. Would be great if they did the other welsh game in perth at NIB or whatever its called over there.

I would much prefer to see the game down here at AAMI park. Packed to the brim with 30 000 is better than etihad, probably at 40 000. I dont think the welsh will draw the big numbers down here. But I may be wrong!

will let you know shortly when I find out.

The sfs is in the runningfora major upgrade, not extra seats but facility wise and a new roof that will cover every spectator that they hope to have funding for and finish by 2013 (25th anniversary) so having a match there would make sense, they certainly going to be pushing for more content to cover costs.

Any "British" team draws in Melbourne (eg. England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland).

I question that. I would think Ireland and England would pull large crowds
but noting the last time ireland played in melbourne they just pulled 40,000 (back in 2008) i'm not sure Wales and Scotland would be up at that mark by any means.
i'd think they'd draw somewhere between italy (large italian population here) and ireland.
italy drew just 20 000 in 2009.

How could I ever forget, RH? In matters of crafting lead balloon announcements the ARU concedes to no one.

They set the bar so low with that one that it would indeed be a challenge for them to come up with something even more banal. But I for one would never underestimate their collective genius.

Platinum.

it says that Sydney will get two tests a year starting next year.
presumably, one being the bledisloe and one being ths SFS test.

I'd say melbourne and perth will each get one a year. Canberra will receive one off smaller matches at best. I was at their last test, fiji v aus, and it was horrid in every sense.

Melbs and perth will pick up one of the 3 game tour tests each. Brisbane will get one match a year every other year and 2 games, being a tri nations and the other bledisloe, in the other years.

Really spreading the game aren't they.

Oh well, at least it is going to the massive capacity SFS.

That was so easy it's a shame to take the money. I knew they wouldn't let me down. You've just got to know your cattle.

There we have it; "the future of rugby in Sydney" determined with just one announcement. A master stroke.

How're you going to top that, Demetriou, you loser? While you're gerting about setting up the GWS and signing up every sports ground in the west of Sydney to exclude everything but Kick-It-To-Me, you've been outflanked and outsmarted. We're going to have a Test!

I said a Test, do you hear me?
I say Harbour City's gotta have a Rugby Test
and I mean she needs it next year
Well, Professor John O'Neill's on hand
and Harbour City's gonna have her Rugby Test
Just as sure as the Lord made little green apples
and that Test's gonna be in the afternoon

Johnny, Willy, Teddy, Fred
And you'll see idiots in blow up suits
and you'll hear the thunder of rolling ground announcements
and the shimmer of fat-arsed alickadoos in suits.
