3 tries all, I suspect you will find.

And when I played, I was a front row forward. I personally don't give a rats arse about nancy 'running rugby' arguments. I love rugby for the tight stuff, where you win the ball through a contest of strength. Scrums, rucks and mauls - they're the things of beauty for me.

The 'it's all about the tries' argument is a peculiar one to me. I think its a product of people growing up around too much league and/or not appreciating forward play. When I played, I didn't care how we won, I cared that we won. When I am watching the Rebels, I don't care how they win, I care that they win. I love it when they get their 4 try bonus point, because that will help them get ahead in competition. That being said, I was probably happier with the win against the Brumbies where we scored one try to the one against the Hurricanes where we scored six; either way, both were exciting games. Tries are simply one way of scoring points, there's nothing sacred about them. When it comes down to it: win first, tries second. If anything, winning by penalties can often suggest that you were the cleaner (or better at getting away with cheating) side; see the Reds v Brumbies game.

Wykes certainly had a cracking game this round, albeit so did Pyle. I suspect (with the possibility that Horwill might displace one of them) that they'll get the lock positions in one of those silly media 'teams of the round'. However, to suggest anything beyond that is very premature. Cummins has been pretty good this year, if he keeps it up he might get his chance. Then again, this is a World Cup year and because we're playing for sheep stations, coaches are going to be less inclined to take risks on relative unknowns (at least on the international stage).

But.

It gets a bit more complicated when a team ties the ball up in the breakdown or is constantly offside in defence, for example, to prevent the other team from having an opportunity to score tries. If the other team kicks enough goals to win because of infringements that reduce their ability to score tries, so be it.

Not the case in this game but a very good point.

What a load of garbage, Pyle outplayed both these players the other night..

So sharpe and wykes didn't play well? Wtf are people watching. Sharpe was consistently over the ad like. Wykes the same and he even set up a try looking like a centre. Pyle got a lucky try and had a good game. The main thing I hated in this fame was kingis try. Terrible force caught napping.

Anyway too say wykes and sharp were not good is a load of rubbish.

Settle down tiger. The sticking point is when you said only. There are other locks around the country playing well. Horwill, AWH, Simmons, Cammpbell and Pyle are all playing well. Pat O'Connor looked good for the Tahs the other night.

Sharpe and Wykes are playing well no doubt. Wykes personally has impressed me very much.

Anyhow the Force need to turn their attention to the Tahs now.

It's not about the game. I honestly believe sharpe is the only decent specialist lock in the country. Sharpe does his job end of story. Other locks try too only be a lock at certain times. It's like our Aussie props. There is almost no one ATM. Some are close but not there. They are too interested in scoring a try on the wing instead of cleaning out at every Ruck.

James I did say you were right mate and you do bring some good points too the table. Thanks

As for the tahs. I am going too say this now and I mean it. I will not say a bad word about the game. Not at all. No bagging a ref or anything like that. Anyone want too place a bet that I can do it!!??

I think the game last night showed that the Force are deficient in several areas. They were caught napping badly on the cross field kick for a try. Good sides just don't make these kind of mistakes. That said the fact that the Rebels gave it a go shows that they are willing to try things for a win...sometimes it will work sometimes it won't. If only the Force could rediscover a bit of their attacking flair. Dave Smith needs the ball in space at the end of some passes not seeking ball inside and in contact. They seem to be concentrating the attack up the middle instead of going wide. The positional kicking for territory by the Force was aimless. The season is a bees dick away from being shot. A win against the Tahs is a must, that said it looks like Hodgson is out with a shoulder injury. Time to change things up, think outside the box and try something new. I don't care if Ripia isn't match fit, get him on the park, JOC (James O'Connor) to 12 and maybe try Shep on a wing....just try something.

A big part of our problem is a lack of attacking options outside of JOC (James O'Connor) magic and pick and drive. Smith ran some great angles last night, but we just aren't asking enough questions of the opposition defence. Added to that, we nod off in defence ourselves and give away some soft tries. It's all mental with these blokes.

You hit the nail on the head. Everything at the moment is being keyed by JOC (James O'Connor). A few of the other players need to step it up and shoulder some of the burden. Ripia has to play against the Tahs with JOC (James O'Connor) moving to 12. Any undiscovered talent on the roster that haven't been given a decent run yet? What happened to Mafi he wasn't in the squad for the game

Injured I think.

...not another one! The only thing we pin our hopes to are when the Force are least expected to win, as in against the Tahs this weekend, they pull something out. I hope that is the case this week.

I also don't thing Shepard is in the mix for the wallabies full squad.

Mate, forget the Wallabies, Shep may not be in the mix for the Force XV next week after his last two games. He never touched it against the Stormers and some of his decision making and kicking last night... With Ripia to start at 10, Fairbanks 12, (we all want to see Rabs there but for Force balance) Rabs 15, Cummo to stay at 13, Smith 11, with many, including Malfi welcomed back to the fold, vying for 14.

I was at the game and while I support neither team personally, I was really urging the Rebels on to win away. There are a few points that I think are worth noting:

1) The Force need to learn how to win the tight games. I realise the SA tour may have sapped some energy but heads and basic skills dropped all over the park once things got super tight in the second half.

2) The Force supporters (in general) need to learn some of the laws of the game, and specifically, to accept the refs decisions. This is not AFL.

3) The Rebels weren't great, but how many times did the Force get caught out with Rebel plays that were either quick ball or out of centre thinking?

4) Rod Macqueen has a clue.

5) Phipps, Delve and Lipman have a great understanding. From this combo, real gains are made.

6) Gerrard still has it. By God he does....

Daz, I also agree with all but point 2. The Force crowd have always seemed pretty knowledgeable to me. Certainly more than a lot of the knuckleheads I've sat next to at Dockers or Eagles games.

Sheesh settle down, thats not what i said, i said Pyle outplayed both those players on the weekend, pyle played almost to a 9 out of 10 level, wykes and sharpe didn't..

To dismiss the other locks in the country is the 'bullshit' part of your comment, how about opening your eyes and acknowledging that there are other second rowers out there performing well.

Who? I don't rate horwill but he needs more games under his belt. Chisolm no. Mumm no. They are not specialist. I'm not going too go mad over Pyle after 1 game. Some of them are good but I don't think they are close too sharpe.

Wykes played a good 9 out of 10. Watch the game again and take a look. I don't think be has ever played that well. As well as cummins who is getting better ever game. Even with food poisoning he preformed alright.
