because he dislikes the notoriety

Come to Canberra :thumb

Yes, go to Canberra and wreck a taxi or two, smash a restaurant or so and even beat up your wife if you please. ::)

Has he done these things already?

Are those bits of behaviour compulsory qualifications for the Bumbles? :)

Folau comes from quite a strict Mormon background. Has not put a foot out of line during his career. Was still talk of him going to a mission a couple of years back, but sports superstardom has taken priority.

Has there been a decent de novo switch from Mungo-ball to a forward in rugby?

Not knowing what a ruck, line-out or scrum where you push is a hurdle too high

Brad Thorn went from mungo-ball to Rugby (to mungo-ball to rugby) did he not? I confess I don't know his pre-mungo-ball history and whether it involved any rugby.
Edit: I checked now and apparently it did not.

well he is only 20yr old so he does have a few years in him to learn

He probably has the best chance to make the shift considering his incredible physique

Outside centre. Morty at inside centre straightening the attack creating the space he needs.

Maybe he could play OC after 2 or 3 years of union. Till then he should be a Digby style winger, looking for work.

It's too steeper ask for a leaguie to convert to a union 13. All the particularly successful conversions have been to wing.

If they convert him to a OC nice and slowly it'll be good, I'm sure Morty will be a terrific teacher.

Just saw Folau's highlight reel. He definitely ain't no Chris Jack or Brad Thorn!

well no one said he ever was..

First and foremost you would sign Folau as a outside back, with the intent to have him play outside centre, however he does have the physicality to play in the backrow

Izzy hasn't got the mean streak to be a test forward. There are only a couple of league forwards who could make a good transition, maybe Michael Crocker would make a good 6 for example.

He'd best be left to the outside backs, he is quick and terribly good under the high ball.

his actually not very quick at all, he has decent acceleration but is quite slow over the long distance, he has never been able to finish off a break more then 20m

I agree. Stick him on the wing, and let quade cross kick to him!

Except these are the only two mungos to make it as fwds.

Whenever discussing non-midget leaguies coming across, someone always throws in the back-row as potential - even if they aren't even forwards in league.

Crazy talk.

O I C how this works. Vandalising cars, doing jail time for assaulting police, snorting coke, turning up pissed to training, shoving your team mates on the pitch, and ridiculing team mates in front of selectors are essential for joining the Tarts. You lose. :)

Peter Ryan is the other oft forgotten forward who switched to Union.

Played rugby at Downlands, with (I think) Garrick Morgan, made Australian Schoolboys. His career went union>league>union>league, bit like Brad Thorn's.

forward or no forward in the nrl, i was merely pointing out that he has the physicaly attributes to play in the backrow, been a forward in the nrl means shit when talking about rugby union, apart from prop the rest of the forwards are practically backs anyway

thats just my personal opinion, disagree if you want

I don't think Folau would be any good at outside centre, hell when he plays centre in league he gets caught out making bad defensive decisions, anyone remember last years Origin (I think)? Based on that and that alone I don't think he could ever handle 13 in union.

he is a winger through and through and a mighty good one, still young and still has potential, he would be a great signing but im not sure if he is worth the big big bucks, if he wants to come though he could be this generations Tuqiri

Sign this boy up, asap. Stick him on the wing, and let him dominate the way he does in league. Whether you think he is going to be a good rugby player or not is irrelevant. If Australian rugby's newest team can sign rugby leagues biggest name that has got to be a win for us. Building more depth in aussie rugby coming into a world cup year isn't an opportunity to be wasted.

As TOCC I think pointed out, he isn't the quickest bloke; he is fast, but not Rod Davies quick. He is, however, hard to stop 20metres out from the try line. His ability under the highball is also better than most AFL players. I'm all for this signing.
