Tom Wright was a bit of an unsung hero I fee aswell, broke the game open a few times. Credit to those 2 rows, Skelton won't find it easy to crack into the team with Williams being incredible and Frost was great as well... maybe a bomb squad with Skelton off the bench?

There aren’t many blokes in Oz rugby at the moment who are just “footballers”. As in the kind of bloke you just need on the field anywhere between 10-15 because they are good.
Ikitau seems to be moving/has moved into that status this year. His general play and defensive reads were elite. And I have seen a good mixup in his style across a few games this year.

Jesus what a match.
Felt like there was a switch from Aus at 20 mins from "chuck it about like it's Round 3 of Super Rugby" to "play narrower than a beavers buttcrack and go straight up the guts." Worked brilliantly too as the poms didn't seem switched on mentally to defend that shit

Yeh or wright or ikitua.. there were 4 or 5 guys that clearly had a bigger impact on the game. But given its his debut im ok with it. Also its probably the best thing rugby australia could ask for. All my league mates were discussing it this morningand asking me how they can find a replay

Ok, I'm still buzzing from that game. What a great way to start a Sunday.
Was it perfect. No. But so many players stood up.
For me Bell and Ikitau were my two players of the match for the Wallabies. Both were immense in so many aspects of that game.
I think what I'm most proud of is the team not dropping their heads after that first 20mins with a raucous English crowd going wild and to continue fighting right to the end.
Well done boys. Great game. This will go a long way with this rebuild / post Eddie reset.

I don't think the defensive system or defence in general was necessarily poor. Yes we leaked some tries, but the majority of their tries were from some very astute plays from Smith with a wonderful short kicking game. When they were carrying I thought we were solid and did well to make a mess of the breakdown for them, forcing a lot of knock ons from their players.
The other earlier Cunningham-South one would have happened with all defensive systems once you get compressed and are just a player short on the fringes and his other was just a case of taking the opportunity with a quick tap play, nothing to do with the system.

Agreed Molman. How often has Australia played well for 60 minutes? Even England scoring at the death I thought .. Fu.k it! Then the short drop kick off nailed… that goes too long or short .. different result.. then the self belief to back a run to score… the boys need to savour this because that was a truly great victory… and everyone played their part… Bottle this self belief boys … Long suffering Wallaby supporters can smile today!!….

I would’ve had no complaints if Valetini, Ikitau, Wright, Bell, Williams or McReight had’ve got MOM.
But I can see why Sua’ali’i got it. Some great touches in attack including setting up the first try and a bunch of other line breaks. A couple of very key wins off kick offs including causing the last crucial turnover through pressure on Itoje. Seemed very solidly defensively and jammed in to force the error on the last pass leading to the Kellaway try (yes - could’ve ended badly but it didn’t).
Pretty flawless game from my perspective and a couple of really key involvements which led directly to tries.
At the end of the day it was one of those games where 5-6 guys could have been rewarded but Sua’ali’i was one of those IMO.

In hindsight I agree - although admit I was pretty frustrated initially. But a couple of Englands tries were very well taken and sometimes you just cant stop everything.
Really pleasing to see our defensive maul stand up. I thought we were excellent in that respective.
Probably the biggest work on for me is our box kick & chase. The new rules really put a lot of pressure on the defensive team but we kicked most/all of ours too long.

I think the importance of this cant be understated. Rugby world cup draw will be based on ranking as at november next year...we simply have to be in the top 8 at the time or we risk having a nightmare scenerio at our home world cup

I think if I was pushed to pick one it would have to be Ikitau. He cleaned up a few things, made fantastic gainline, setup a number of things and was generally just fantastic in transistion plays. I think his involvements can't be understated. But yes, it was one of those great games where so many stood up. You could easily add Wilson, Williams, Frost, Kellaway and a number of others to the list. Even McDermott comes on for Gordon and makes an impact when he's off in the blood bin. Thats what we need, all players adding to the collective.
