England v Wallabies, Twickenham, Sun 10th Nov 2:10AEDT / 1:10AEST

Tupou was found out in the scrums early on, England were in the refs ear about him. He butchered a couple of moves with unnecessary passes, thought they could have subbed him off a lot earlier. Bell was immense, dynamic with ball in hand. Great overall forward effort - Williams and Frost were powerful.

I think if I was pushed to pick one it would have to be Ikitau. He cleaned up a few things, made fantastic gainline, setup a number of things and was generally just fantastic in transistion plays. I think his involvements can't be understated. But yes, it was one of those great games where so many stood up. You could easily add Wilson, Williams, Frost, Kellaway and a number of others to the list. Even McDermott comes on for Gordon and makes an impact when he's off in the blood bin. Thats what we need, all players adding to the collective.
Really found something with Len at 12. He is such a good player.

What stands out to me watching this Wallabies team - they absolutely have the top-end talent to affect test matches at the highest level in guys like Bell, Valetini, Len, JAS and Tom Wright (who was freakish running from the backfield).

The key is can they keep building on the fundamentals of set-piece, defensive integrity and a competitive kicking game. If they do, there is the makings of a really good side here. Pleased for them and Schmidt as well because they really deserved a signature win (Argentina way doesn't qualify, especially when you follow it up with a stinker) and they got one in a big way.

I agree Tupou’s below his best but, if anything, I think he’s often guilty of trying to do too much around the breakdown. He needs to be more patient at times. Then again he often gets away with it when’s he’s disrupting the ball so I can see why he still goes for it.

He’s still comfortably our best scrummager.

I did think Ala'alatoa did his job well off the bench which is good as he has been below his best this year.

Even old man Slipper did his job but it is a bit of a worry they didn’t bring him on until about the 70 minute mark. Or maybe that’s just a big tick to what a great game Bell had.

Anyway, I’ve type as much negativity as I’m going to about the game in the couple of posts I’ve made. We just beat England in a game that I feared we might get pumped in and it was a great team performance with expansive play, execution under pressure and stolen from the jaws of defeat. I’ll leave Schmidt & Co to tinker away with the works ons.

Really what I want from Tupou above all else is the scrum, after that start with simply "do no damage". Bell often frustrates me being great around the park but less so in the scrum - today though his field was so good (MOTM for me) I'd live with it. It was frustrating that the broadcast did not show what was happening when Tupou was being pinged. Does anyone know what was going on?

What a great game to watch. England played some great rugby but I feel like we ran their forward pack off their feet.

Great performances across the park. A couple of special mentions though -

- Valetini has had some great games in the last couple of years but I don’t think he’s played any better than that.
- Ikitau outstanding at 12. Best he’s played in gold in 12 months.
- Sua'ali'i’i - what a debut. Cracking game.
- I was a bit of a doubter with Williams - but if that is what he keeps putting out, suddenly our locks look right up there (thought Frost continues to improve too)
- Bell - I thought Genge was all over him early but barely sighted after 20 and Bell only got better
- Wilson & McReight both very good too and Faessler industrious

Pick the same 23 next weekend. They’ve absolutely earned it.

Edit - sorry, big oversight. Have to specifically mention Tom Wright. Everything you’d want in a Wallaby fullback. Outstanding game.
Agree with this 100%
Williams has sorted out the restarts and Frost was going hard as low as a big man can go.

Jorgensen showing the value of pace on the wing at the end play.
Like Pietch's efforts, but he had a couple of opportunities in the first half but was too slow to capitalise.
Kellaway increasing his lead with 4 fast poms on his tail for his try surprised me a little.
Haven't seen AK (Andrew Kellaway) run so fast for a couple of years. Great to see but he was outpaced by the England winger in one of his tries. Certainly, AK (Andrew Kellaway) is looking more comfortable than earlier this year and long may it continue.

Yeah! I am hoping they can build and not thinking they are world beaters (yet) then follow it up with a poor game. We have been up and down like the proverbial for years let's look to several good games in this trip.

Not sure he was found out so much as outthought by his opponent. Didn't see a close up but I am guessing they took the hit held then took off power to collapse him. Smart play if they did and it takes a prop/lock combo to make that happen.

Have to chuckle at the player ratings on the Roar. Gave Wright, Ikitau & Valetini 9.5s.

I wonder what else they needed to do to warrant the extra 0.5.

It sounds harsh because I'm not very good with words but I've always thought Topou was 'soft.' I'm of course talking about his temperament, at times he is lazy, at times he gives away the silliest of penalties and at other times he is easily baited. I don't know how to explain it, he could be, obviously and easily, better at everything he does.

wow wow wow what a day, I have to now go apologise to my neighbours. Most enjoyable game I’ve watched in a long time. Fuck England sooo much, biggest bunch of smug assholes. It is pretty funny though that they are every nation’s #1 enemy so each game they play is an awful grudge match.

Don’t know how to split Ikitau, Bell, Valetini, Wright for the top gong. Can’t ignore Wright I think, his involvements were genuinely game breaking. Hope Curry is okay, he’s a great player but fuck me trying to tackle Bell & Valetini in a row is terrifying.

Suddenly one of our weakest areas, kick offs, has become a huge defensive win and attacking weapon. Williams was impeccable in the air. Then Sua’ali’i was amazing getting it back on kick offs. What a freak, I am nervous he’ll get done flying into a lifted person in the air and get yellow carded.

One negative is our defense. We can’t rely on our attack to score 42 points every game. 37 points is way too much to let in, hopefully we can fix up that blindside winger area where we let in 2 Sleighthome tries pretty easily.

Also I guess William’s lucky try evens up some of BOK’s bizarre calls. He was so quick to penalise us yet would always just do short arms for us.

England really really missed Curry and another onballer, they didn’t get any turnovers, Cunningham-South and Earls are good but they need to get over the ball more. Also surprised how quiet Immanuel was, he’s a freak.

Also fuck Ben Youngs, fuck Campo, how’s that running rugby for you. I’m excited to go listen to Eggchasers and listen to them being miserable pricks.

hilarious that England are a good team and well coached yet they have to beat South Africa or their coach will get the flick, tough life.

I thought this was a massive improvement over the RC games but still a long way to go. I was mostly concerned about the breakdown which was average to poor, particularly the Eng counter rucks but at least it offered some quicker ball at times which our backs made the most of.
