It's a step in the right direction.

I am intrigued by the final sentence of that press release though: "there will be further announcements regarding the coaching structure of the Reds and player retention in the coming weeks". Could this mean that Graham is about to be shown the door?

He doesn't have a contract for next year yet, so it could just as easily be that he's staying. We also still need some sort of attack coach for next year so it could be that too.

So, Stiles, Marsh and Thorn are on board for next year, that's the indians sorted out. What about the chief?

This is true also. I've got this feeling though, based on absolutely nothing mind you, that Knuckles will be the coach for next year, and Stiles, Thorn and Marsh will make up his coaching team. You don't need an attack coach when you play ten man rugby!

Happy for Styles to take the head coach role of that lot. Happier that we have Thorn in the mix and Marsh back. Just need a backs coach. Mooney may not have been across the whole head coaching brief but jeez he had the Reds backline on fire in 2009. Link pulled the show together the next year but Mooney was the man who started that attacking style. If Mooney could be brought into that backs coaching role, I think we would have a mighty fine coaching staff.

Need a decent attack/skills coach now, Mooney displayed good attacking intent, not sure if he would want to return as an assistant coach though..

You know I assume he's back in Brisbane next year as Head of Rugby for Brisbane Grammar School.

Mooney is in Brisbane, and would take the role in my opinion. Very tied to the Reds, and much unfinished business. Is he the best option? I'm not sure.

We still need an attack and a defense coach..

Great news though, Marsh in particular.

There was some chat about O'Conner (the Michael variety) being involved. He could be a backs option. I mentioned it somewhere that Seib and Sampson could be worth a look. I'd also be interested if Carozza was looking at progressing to the next level. He has done a great job with the Academy/fringe players for the last 10+ years.

You'd have to think Graham is back next year if they are appointing all these support coaches. Normally the HC has a fairly significant say in such appointments. Unlikely they'd bring a new person in and say "and we've taken the liberty of appointing your entire support staff".

^^^ Short of doing a KHunt and getting nabbed by the Wallopers for doing something really bad, it is looking ominously like you are stuck with RG for the foreseeable future.

Let's hope the new back office signings prove to be more decisive than the 2015 recruiting programme has turned out to be.

At the same time, the three support staff confirmed in the last couple of days actually have good track records (Thorn not quite so much). I'm sure the big area's a new chief could bring in their support staff; attack and defence.

While I agree that it looks like the dick will still hold the reigns, as his blame game has worked by the looks of it. The board have tried to fix the S&C issue Graham moaned about. They'll probably let Graham "rebuild" the squad "he" wants.

What's John Muggleton's contractual situation? Currently he's at Gloucester. Had a great record with the Wallabies when he was defense coach there and whilst didn't get it quite where it needed to be, improved the Rebels defense in his time there.

Also the other one we haven't spoken a lot about is Sean Hedger.

Does anybody have any insight into him? I thought it was odd walking away from a Super Rugby assistant position with him being their NRC head coach to then come back to QLD and coach premier rugby. Perhaps he just wanted to be back in QLD? I made the same move despite having better professional opportunities in Melbourne after all.

Anyway he did reasonably well with the Rising, that were admittedly a strong outfit, but also has done really well with Bond Uni Breakers. They've absolutely exceeded expectations.

With Meehan departing it's doubtful he will be in charge of Qld Country, who Bond Uni are also heavily involved in. Is there potential Hedger may have a role there? Is he possibly an option for attack coach? Where does everybody stand on him?

I understand RH and Gnostic you guys like to talk about "worldwide searches" etc, but you'll find people are more likely to want to work in their home town than travel across the world. A great role doesn't have as much appeal if you think the place is a c**t of a city. You still have to live there every day.

Pretty sure he came back for family reasons and the gig at Bond is apparently great money. I think he would be a chance of a Reds role. He should probably be given the Country NRC one too.

I think the NRC gigs should be handled by someone who has a future in coaching at a higher level.. Is this Sean? He left a super rugby team to join Bond, does he want to coach super rugby again?

I wonder if we should look to a South African, Argentinian or English coach.

We have a decent forward pack on paper and with good coaching we could become the dominant pack in Australia and with the conference system we only have to be best in Australia.

I think a well coached forward team can win the Aussie conference.

:D

I grew up in Sydney, and have spent a lot of time in Qld and Brisbane, as well as Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide. Never been to Darwin and my brother lives in Perth.

Barring Darwin (which I can't hold a really valid opinion of but will hold an invalid one anyway ((I hate the humidity and Rockhampton was more than enough for me in summer)) Brisbane is the best city in Oz, hands down.

The point is I don't think anybody would have a massive issue being attracted to live in Brisvegas. If they did I don't think they are really serious about being a professional rugby coach, in the Southern Hemisphere at least.

I am not so much a world wide search person, as somebody who believes in the integrity of process achieving the best outcome. Flawed processes with "old boys" networks and closed searches to narrow criteria results in situations like the Reds are in now and that the Wallabies were in with Deans.
