Re: Brumbies V Canes

The Aussies are renowned for spotting Kiwi rugby talent and luring them across the Tasman - and a talented young sevens player from Christchurch is one of the latest.

Brackin Karauria-Henry, 21, is now playing rugby for Australia, one of several Kiwis turning out at the NZI Sevens this weekend for other countries.

After signing with the Cronulla Sharks as a 16-year-old in 2006 and leaving Christchurch for Australia for a crack at a lucrative career in league, Karauria-Henry says he eventually hankered for a switch back to union.

"Things didn't really go my way in rugby league so I thought I'd have a crack and see how I go."

"It's gone good."

Having played rugby as a schoolboy, he said he didn't find the change too difficult.

His fast start was curtailed by a broken hand suffered at the start of last year but after impressing in a couple of sevens tournaments, his career has flourished.

"Things have started happening. I got a trial and got in the team. It's gone pretty quick."

The second-five eighth is currently in the Brumbies academy and is aiming for a Super 14 contract in 2011 but says he has his sights set on the Commonwealth Games in India later this year.

The former Canterbury age-group representative admits to some nerves ahead of Friday when he will run out in front of his parents, uncles and aunties and nana, as well as 35,000 other fans crammed into a Westpac Stadium to watch.

"This is the tournament where I want to play well in front of my family and friends."

Karauria-Henry says the Australian side has been together for a while now and were confident as they attempt to break a nine-year drought in Wellington.

While he was born in Auckland and grew up in Christchurch, attending Christchurch Boys, he now speaks with an Australian twang and is proud to represent his adopted home where he has settled with his partner.

"She's an Aussie and all her family's pretty happy," he said.

He didn't expect to be too concerned when he came up against New Zealand.

"I'll be right," he said. "I play for Aussie now so it's not really a big deal."

Australia kick off their Wellington campaign against Papua New Guinea at 2.50pm on Friday.

So looks like the backline is going to consist of gits flyhalf, Tyron smith inside centre, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) outside centre. I am actually very excited about this. I think the centre pairing is going to be very strong! its probably the best centre pairing for the brumbies all season (a result of mortlocks poor form). Go the Brumbies!

The reserves tell the story unfortunately, they are the ones that you rely on to finish and make a difference to hard games and two of those are bracketed due to injuries.

Re: Brackin Karauria-Henry (from a few posts above).

If anybody wants to have a look at BKH in the 15-man game, and I'm one, he is playing in the ABC TV game for Southern Districts v Manly. Nicky Price is playing on the wing in his team also.

There are some interesting players in the Manly team as well: Tahs winger NN; Salesi Manu, 2008 Oz Schools LHP starting in 1st Grade for the first time IIRR, star 2009 Oz Schools lock Greg Peterson - from the Tahs pro Academy; and fullback Adam D'Arcy, ditto.

I'll post this on the Sydney club thread also.

Just have a feeling the Canes will have their tails up for this game. If they get it right they can beat any team on the day.

32 minutes in and still no score.

Two yellow cards though, both to the Hurricanes and both for killing the ruck. Kaplan is really trying to dominate the game.

Not watching it but Im going to appluad Kaplan for giving 2 yellows if they are for persistent infringements. It is what some of us have been calling to happen for quite a while.

Has to be the shitest game of the year. Both teams terrible so far. Giteau is not a flyhalf.

Just as I click post Phibbs picks up the ball after the scrum pushes it towards the line and scores the try. Gits misses.

5 - 0 Brumbies.

I'm questioning my decision to waste bandwidth on this game.

5 - 3 Brumbies. Penalty right on half time.

Brumbies scrum is really struggling (only one positive moment)

Yeah the Brumbies are looking very ordinary again. Halves combination is just not working.

Actually think that the Brumbies have gotten the better of it from Kaplan so far. Problem is that at times neither team looks like they want to play. Brumbies have had all the ball but have looked largely cluess.

Hurricanes looked very dangerous in the last five minutes breaking tackles and offloading left right and centre.

I like AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) at outside centre though. Always seem to get over the gain line and threatens to break tackles.

What the fuck is with that shit rap music they are playing at half time in the stadium?

This fucking horrible. Phibbs can't pass and Giteau is in just terrible form. Too much swapping and changing in the backline.
