Brumbies head coach 2012

After reports today that Jake White has expressed an interest in being the Brumbies coach, it's probably a good time to look over the coaching options for 2012.

Much has been said about one of the current assistants (Stephen Larkham, Justin Harrison, Marco Caputo) to take on the role in 2012.
I personally can not see the happening for a number of reasons.

The first is the lack of experience amongst that group. Harrison and Larkham are in their first years out of playing so are 'green' to say the least. Caputo has had experience coaching the Brumbies Academy and also locally with the Gungahlin Eagles but obviously not to the level of Super Rugby.

The second is the Brumbies have not seen finals action since winning it in 2004 and now is not the time to have an apprentice learning on the job and have more uninspiring seasons.

So a quick look over some of the options that are out there:

As said before, Jake White has reportedly expressed his interest in coming to Canberra. This could bring some much needed experience and as a World Cup winning coach could settle down some of the alleged 'player power'.

Todd Louden, who played for the Tuggeranong Vikings in the 90's, is back in Australia coaching Sydney Uni and his record is impressive. He has been to coaching outposts in Pretoria and Japan. The stint with the Bulls saw them win the title in 2007.

Tim Lane is back in Sydney and is now coaching Manly. Another coaching journeyman, his last contract was with Georgia and secured qualification for the Rugby World Cup. He has been a member of the Wallabies coaching staff under Rod MacQueen in 1998.

I'm sure there are other options out there, but these are the ones that come to mind and are based locally.

As an adjunct, is hickey off contract after this year? will the brumbies and tahs both be in the market for a new coach at the same time?

Couple of good names there but the current 'player power' mentality has to be eradicated in order for anyone to enjoy long term success.

After what has happened over the past ten years it would be interesting to see how many coaches apply for the job. The very definition of a poisoned chalice.

But if Jake White wants it he would be hard to say no to. With Eddie as his assistant perhaps?

There are some good Australian Coaches in Europe at the moment. Im not referring to Eddie Jones though

Some good coaches have been mentioned. I have always liked Tim Lane but as some have noted would he put up with the "player power" thing there?

I wonder how much the player power will die down with Giteau and Elsom both leaving at the end of the year?

There's obviously still a few senior players going to be around but these two are the big trouble makers...

They definitely need someone who is not going to take shit... which is where Jake White would fit in best... but from a coaching perspective I'd favour guys like Cheika, Lane and Louden...

I think once Giteau and Elsom have left the ranks, the player power issue will die down as I see them being the driver behind it all.
Jake White if given the role, I dont think would put up with it anyway and would probably either warn them from the outset or drop them. Jake White and Eddie Jones...that could be the way forward.

I didn't realise that Friend had chosen Darren Coleman to be attack coach before it was vetoed by the board...

I'm starting to understand why he was fired...

Rudolph Staeuli would fix that 'player power' problem

That sounds like the root of the whole problem. I don't know how bad a coach Coleman is but the right of the head coach to select his coaching team is fundimental and the board should seperate from such matters. Until such is reformed the Brumbies are more in the market for a string puppet than they are a coach.

Its good that the brumbies have plenty of time to look around. However they need to do some good recruiting for 2012 especially if AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) departs for the Tahs...

There aren't sufficient adjectives in the English language to describe how bah he is, how bad his communication skills are and how much he is disliked at the academy. AQs a rugby coach he wouldn't even make a good water boy.
