I think White's experience in political manoeuvring could stand him in good stead, given the reputation of the Brumbie's board and player culture.
It'd be interesting, in any case.

The Brumbies are going to have a fairly young team next year... particularly in the backline...

They're going to need a coach that can bring the best out of them...

Sounds like the Reds 2 years ago... lets hope with the same success!

Tahs need a new coach aswell do they not?

And surely the reds will after the Lions tour, if not sooner if dingo takes the ABs?

Is this process a smoke screen (Seeking out potential coaches).
I hear Larkham is the front runner with Harrison as his assistant.
Tony Rea to possibly remain as a Defensive coach.

The Larkham influence (both father and son) pull a lot of weight in the ACT.

If you bring in White, all of the above will be gone as White will bring in his own people and that will be one of his conditions.
Gaffney is a backs coach so no, he wont be there at all as Larkham is there.

So to me, Fagan is running this PR as a smoke screen to make the public think the Brumbies are looking for a new coach when in fact, the reason why Friend was sacked (backs coach) was because Larkham wanted full control.

Come end of the year, Fagan will release a statement saying " The Brumbies were unable to find a suitable candidate for the role of Head Coach therefore have appointed Stephen Larkham as our new Head Coach with Justin Harrison his assistant alongside Tony Rea".

That's quite a cynical view and given interest from Gaffney and White, the Brumbies will be a laughing stock if they were to appoint Larkham as head coach.

I'm not keen on Jake White. The Brumbies don’t need an authoritarian yarpie at HQ and his mate Jones selling his him though the papers is a bit questionable.

Brumbies need a coach which understands the Super Rugby game. Michael Chieka and Gaffney are good coaches but can they adapt to super rugby while coaching a young squad?

Todd Louden has super rugby experience and is young enough to work with a younger squad. I think Friend struggled getting his head around super rugby and unfortunately lost support.

Perhaps its time for Rod Kafer to get out off the sideline media crew and have a crack at coaching. He understands super rugby and would have the respect of the players and would work well with Larkham.

Would you put it past them? TO do something like this?

Why would they go to all the trouble of sacking Friend or playing a part in getting rid of Friend of they were leaving (Giteau and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)) remembering too Elsom yet to commit as is Hoiles..only one from that leadership group staying is Moore and all reports he wasnt happy about the decision.I have one common factor and its Larkham.

The Brumbies are already the laughing stock of the Rugby World.

Larkham has sure shown his skills as a backs coach so far, the Brumbies clearly look well coached in attack ::)

I agree, but can he fulfil the whole package?
Bloke has only been a backs coach for 5 secs....dont get me wrong, bloke will probably become a great coach but reports coming out saying he wants it now, is a bit too soon.
I agree with the backs looking good although on the weekend it took Lealiifano having to straighten the attack due to Giteau crabbing across for the outsides to get some good ball.
But, I think this hole coaching search is a sham...like i said, if a new bloke comes in...I bet you that they will want to clear the coaching stocks out and bring in their own blokes.

BP... Its not such a stupid idea, Larkham has this year to adapt as coach and build a new backline. Coaches don’t need to have all the skills in the bag first up if supported by the club admin. Furthermore Players respond well to past players. Larkham has more experience on the field than the Cheikas and Gaffney’s put together. He is younger and more approachable to young players and the wider Brumbies club. Remember they named a grandstand after the guy in Canberra. The only other coach I can think of who is still working with that honour is Robbie Deans. Coaching isn't a complicated dark art; it’s about knowing your job, motivating people and working hard. Larkham has already proven himself as a good student of the game. The young Brumbies would respond well to Larkham. Lets see if he can fire up the backs before the season is over.

It's plausible, but cynical. Given Larkham's extremely short tenure as fulltime coach of anything, I think that the Brumbies would have a hard time justifying it. I think it would so hard to announce that they'd be using rulers to straighten faces for months beforehand.

It hasn't stopped MacQueen

Agreed.

However, we should also examine White's results with the Boks.

It wasn't all great.

It's certainly been highlighted by a RWC win in his last year, but it was an experienced team with what could be considered an easy draw.

Anyhoo... I'd just like to see the pros and cons of all the candidates... after disappointement under Fisher and Friend I think they really need to make the right choice here...

I'd like to see someone that can bring out the x factor from the young Brumbies' backs that will be on show next year - To'omua, Lilo, Coleman, McCabe, Stubbs etc.

But also someone that will bring out the mongrel in the forwards that they currently lack...

I heard that Larkham was appointed as an assistant with a view that he would do an apprenticeship for a year under Friend and then be he would take over the following year.

Since Friend was sacked, due to the considerable discontentment of the players, the board and players probably assumed that Larkham and his co-coaches would turn the Brumbies season around. I imagine the plan you outlined BP or something similar would of followed suit if the Brumbies season was relatively succesful or even on par with previous years. However, with the way the Brumbies season seems to be headed, you would think the powers that be are rethinking their plans. How could you justify appointing Larkham and Harrison at the moment?
