Jamie Pandaram in the Aus today says the exclusive dealing period on the rights post 2025 ends 31/12 this year. News is running the line across its papers today that the Rebels law suit severely impacts the negotiations as it both impacts the viability of RA and means there in uncertainty on what product is being sold.

Reading between the lines it sounds like they are flagging to Nine that they would go in low, and hoping Nine lowball so the rights enter a competitive phase.

Have to say I'm absolutely loving the 3 man team of Sean Maloney, Michael Hooper and Morgan Turinui on comms and between two posts. Great energy, intelligent takes and excellent chemistry. Probably helps that the wallabies are winning, but I hope this is the seen as the A team by Stan and they keep these three together in the box for the big games.

Maloney doesn't get enough credit imo - he brings some life to the what can often be monotonous play-by-play commentary, but leaves the proper colour commentary and 'expert' (not sure that word applies to all who fill that role) opinion to the others. Plus, he's not shy to hang a bit of shit on Goog.

Really like the more casual 'mates at a pub' feel that Stan have brought to the broadcast domain.

Got the link for that bud? KEen to have a read, but can't seem to find the article on the OZ or DT...

I have two thoughts on this.

One being the fact they seem like problem child for RA trying to do a deal but the other is also thinking couldn't this be a good thing if some systems became self-sufficient and not a leech? I have no idea of the figures and if it has staying power but we always seem to want everyone to fall in line but also stop sticking their hand out...

A thought that probably best belongs in this thread. With our recent spike in competitiveness and public goodwill, it sounds like viewership and ratings are riding high. This is super important as we negotiate our next broadcast deal, where RA needs a significant increase in cash. This got me thinking - is there anything we can do? And along with viewership/ratings, is social media engagement a measure too?

I know it’s not much, but along with watching/rewatching the test matches, I’ve also been making sure to give every rugby/Wallabies social media post a like, liking supportive comments from others, and sometimes adding a comment of my own. This covers everything from the Wallabies accounts to Fox Sports/Daily Telegraph posts. Ergh, but if they are posting about rugby I want to give those posts clicks and engagement to encourage them to continue supportive coverage. A question for the forum: if you’re not already doing this, can we band together and do so?

I mean I'm willing to glue my hands to lane 3 of the Harbour Bridge in a pair of Wallabies Budgies demanding PVL phonetically pronounces Rugby League correctly or I stay.

Winning is the ticket for them. It's always been the case with Rugby and we are still positively damaged from the 90s/early 2000s where crowds were good and the buzz was high. Coincided with winning games at all levels. League will never face this as the Kangaroos are utterly dominant and have a once every 5 year blip to someone else. Winning is there, Australia rules the world so the sport feels safe.

Wallabies beating England was a momentum shift and you could feel it. People who like sport noticed it and watched some highlights. The fact it was at the same time as JAS debuting even better and the way it finished couldn't have asked for more. It is now really important the Wallabies have a strong showing v the Lions and at least win 1 match and ideally go to a decider. Good showing there will get public support at home leading into a home WC which does have the ability to shape through to 2040 if managed correctly.

When 'Hello Sport' and 'Bloke in a Bar' have talked some Rugby of late I think that's a good sign. Liking clips of them talking Rugby can move the needle. They pay attention to what people like and comment on because they want the hits. Engagement drives revenue for them. Can we push the Rugby content for them. They play a much bigger role that a lot of people give credit in the media landscape and swing eyes of younger viewers instead of the barnacle types still relying on the 6pm sports news.

More importantly, no-one on this current broadcast team is a miserable prick.

Marto and Kearns were a depressed pair that had no desire to make the broadcast entertaining and were always whinging about the Ref, the opposition or someone. It's the same crap Fox based products sell, misery. Nothing ever makes them happy, it's always shit.

I like the fact that Seany doesn't shy away from calling out 50/50 calls to Australia (he's all to open about calling flat passes, flat or a tad forward for Australia).

The only thing I wish was Ben Kimber and Morgan's podcast to return. The only downside about all this content on Stan is, it's all video based. I unfortunately don't have the time to consumer visual content, but I have plenty of 5 - 20 minutes gaps in my week where I can quickly listen to something.

Great example of what I mean. I’ve been giving their posts lots of love - liking and commenting. Agreed, the cut through they can have is huge. Interestingly, with content like theirs I’ve been seeing a big spike in league fans coming out of the woodwork and posting about how they enjoy both codes. Long may this continue.

Could be wrong here but I thought Between Two Posts et al. was all made for podcasts as well?

Yeah, between two posts episodes all go out as podcasts as well:

Maybe not ideal given they're originally put together visually, but definitely not bad when you know you won't be able to watch them otherwise.

Will be interesting if (when) the Wallabies keep winning and podcasts like the Hello Sport fellas who literally command a small army of gen z's start piggy backing rugby again.

As someone who has been a listener of their pod since inception but has dropped off recently because I've probably left their target market, their ability to create a shared mentality amongst their followers is pretty impressive.

Their social media pages have always been pretty toxic if you're a rugby fan but hopefully that changes.
