Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Article on the Roar today suggesting after Stan we should head back to Fox.

I think this is the right call - none of the major codes have bucked the system for a reason, the Kayo network and being on a platform where the most amount of avid sports watchers can view is imperitive for the World Cup but also our game

but the media giant’s understanding of competition runs deep.
Hah, Doran is taking the absolute piss. Fox demonstrated year on year that they had absolutely no clue how to make the competition appealing the the masses.

Look back on the last decade we had with fox and objectibely, tell me how the coverage changed for the better?

It was the same commentators with the same antics serving up the same lack of enthusiasm.

The more competition we have in the coverage space, the better it is for our game.

Someone’s angling for a job.

It was shit with Fox for the last decade. They didn’t care and neither side liked each other. They purely want to leech off the Lions & WC.

Stop holding the pocket Doran.

The issue is Australia needs competition in sports broadcasters, Foxtel have been the scourge of sports with their monopolisation of cable tv and print media.

If rugby goes back to Kayo, then Stan is essentially dead and the following broadcast agreements is back to square 1 as no other broadcaster will bid for rugby and Foxtel can drive down the value again.

Shit take from a (usually) great poster. Rugby is crying out for the $$$. Moving to somebody who only finessed the rusted on's has done nothing for the sport. Highest bidder is best outcome for the game. And Christy's just doing his job.

It’s fools gold IMO that as it has been suggested will eventually lead to zero competition and then lower price paid.

If I could be shown that non Rugby fans were tuning into games on Fox then go for it, but I don’t believe it.

There has been more FTA content then there has been for years also due to the Stan/9 connection. Quality of that content is another matter.

The game is less relevant than it has ever been...

Completely true but I can already hear the same convo in 2 years time about exposure and wish we had FTA and Fox sucks.

Talk about fan engagement. Has anyone else been watching the ‘Toy Story Funday Football’

An entire alternate broadcast played in Andy’s Bedroom from Toy Story. Runs about 2 mins behind the live game as its being generated with animations and characters built in to the game as well as all the play’s remaining. Pretty incredible and very smart.

Wonder how they would handle a serious injury.

Point one - don't believe this, apparently Nine are preparing a giga bid for the NRL and Stan itself isn't going anywhere (assuming the Sports part can be ramped up or down now the infrastructure is there). Hypothetically Optus would also be in the mix. TBH I don't think RA have the luxury of thinking two broadcast deals ahead lol

Point two - look no further than pubs. Impossible to get Super on these days in Sydney. Not saying it had or would dominate screens when the other codes are on but just the option of that visibility is so important

I’d rather Amazon over Optus. Amazon doing plenty in the US with sports.

I have a few pubs and clubs around me that chuck it on but it’s definitely an rarity.
