I read the other day Mat Ishbia the Owner of the Pheonix Suns has cancelled their Cable deal and is getting all game on local FTA for the increased exposure.

Teams are realising that this isn't actually a big revenue stream and having more passionate local support for the team is probably more valuable long term.

It's bizarre that people are arguing that going from Foxtel to Stan/9 was a step backwards.

It's an improvement in every way. There is more rugby on FTA, more rugby from more competitions on the subscription platform and a lot more domestic rugby with women's and club rugby being featured strongly.

The ratings on Foxtel were pretty clear that league and AFL fans weren't tuning in to watch rugby just because they had access to it.

Agree on all points, but from memory, the free QPR content on YouTube wasn't that much of a step down from what is currently coming from Stan (outside the talk show). By the last few seasons, games had commentary and a few fields had more than one fixed camera.

In line with some other posts about making things more available, I wonder if moving the club games and womens games back to a free model (or making them available to Stan only subscribers as a kind of try before you buy the full Sports package) could help exposure.

The issue isn't that pubs can't afford Stan or don't know how to get it. It's that they don't value it enough to get it.

I'm 99% sure all games got a YouTube broadcast but maybe only game of the round got commentary.
