Reds did surprisingly ok against the Brumbies scrum considering that Daley lined up against Palmer.
The ball-feeding team wants a stable scrum, the defenders want to create an unstable scrum and spoil. Technique rule there is a million ways to cheat these days and fool the ref in thinking you got the stronger scrum.

Blues team announced, some interesting developments:

http://www.theblues.co.nz/Draw-And-Results/Players/2012-04-27.aspx

I've been going through the Blues profiles, and I suspect now I know why the Blues are at the bottom of the table - and also why I think they have as much chance as a snowball in hell of winning tomorrow night.

First reason:
Too many 'dead men walking', or Dad's Army'' players.
Ali Williams 31, Daniel Braid 31, Piri Weepu nearly 29, & Maá Nonu 30

Second Reason:
Levels of unfitness: Weepu overweight, Williams rarely there, Nonu'who uses his over weight to bust tackles but is also missing after 30 minutes

Third Reason:
Too much don't care'' from players after winning RWC: Williams, Weepu, Nonu.

Mealamu & Woodcock are also part of Dad's Army.
They are all great players, but in Super 15, they have lost the desire, with the possible exception of Woodcock last weekend. Mealamu is a good hooker, but not the player he was.

I really do see the Reds running away with this game in the second half, as long as they discipline themselves in the first.

The Blues at home will be a tough proposition, no doubt.

However what I think what the Reds have been missing most is a player in the backline that can dent the defensive line and thus create front foot ball for the fast outside backs which we have in absolute spades. Our back three in this game, while they have many faults are by far the fastest back three in the comp - without exception. The fact that we have both Digby and AF that can play this crucial role, I think this will help fix many of our problems.

Our forwards have been toiling hard, and will only be better this week with better balance in the backrow and Quirk propping up the bench. AWH is our best line-out forward and will be good in the back-half of the match.

If Harris, Digby and AF when he comes on can get over the advantage line consistently and the pack can keep it even in the middle of the field, we will win.

The Blues scrum is using the big hit, Woodcock is bossing everybody

and then I read he is out ......

Working on the principle that if I say it it will happen - We are going to get through this match injury free.

Touch wood. Cross fingers. Pray to whoever you think is listening. ........

Lots of Similarities between the 2 sides this weekend - both teams badly underperforming compared to 2011, both starting the match with 2 x 7's in the backrow, both have dynamic wingers playing at 13, and both feature star halfbacks who aren't going as well as expected.

That said, I don't think the Reds were too far away last week for a side that lost 2 more backs in first 8 mins. Dropping of Samo also sends a clear message that defensive lapses will not be tolerated.

I think they'll get it together tomorrow night. Reds Halftime/Fulltime double for me.

What will really be interesting will be the battle of the scrumhalves. Weepu has been like kryptonite to Genia in recent times. However, Weepu is massively unfit. Genia would like to get over the top of Weepu, and would see this week as his chance, but he is massively out of form.

Maybe they will cancel each other out?

Conditions here in Auckland good for rugby so far - dry, mostly overcast, around 20 deg, little wind. Potential for showers forecast for 7pm, but nothing too wet.

Aucklanders are hard fans, they're all very, very unhappy with their 2012 Blues, that's for sure. Many with vivid memories of their games v Reds in 2011, some genuinely disappointed to see our decline since, they view the Blues the only team to have fallen further!

Are you wearing red tonight, or going incognito?

Am not one for placing bets on rugby, but was moved by great odds for a Reds win in an Aussie betting site so took the trouble to open an account and plonked down $100 on them at 3-1! Was struggling to find odds better than 2-1 in English bookie sites...so obviously they are leery of betting against the Reds...
