One annoying thing was Genia's box kicks...often resulting in not only losing possession but territory as well. Why when your team is reigning supreme in the line outs not go for touch. Hopefully he gets rid of some of that apparently aimless kicking mentality.

It's amazing what a bit of confidence can do for a side, the Reds came to play and let's hope they have woken from their slumber. Great to see Sanchez bounce back, a close run between him and Higgers for MOM. Higgers has to be Wallabies starting 6 or 8, his form has been electric all season.

As for the Blues, íf I was Pat Lam I would be starting Winston Stanley at 12 and Albie Matthews at 9 next week. Not saying tonights loss was Nonu and Wepu's fault, but time to back track and try what worked last year.

I thought Moala was excellent for the Blues. He looked dangerous every time he touched the ball.

The Blues narrow defence is bizarre though. They were lucky not to concede more points from the cross field kicks.

Only because TJ wasn't there..

Yeah sorry not up the Initial's so TJ mean bugger all..

While i have your attention, in previous post of yours in a few Red threads of late. You mentioned that we have a full strength forward pack and us winging about the Reds hammered with no backs and struggling to win made no difference. Just goes to show that with a full strength Forward pack and a back line a nearly full strength and going forward the Reds can win and play better Rugby. Im really going to enjoy (and Hoping) the return of a full strength Reds team and a Full strength, struggling but yet slightly successful Tah's team at the next game up here in QLD. And don't worry, the Tah's will feel right at home when they Run out here at Suncorp when we Boo them. Its the same attention they get at home when they play. ;)

TJ = Tony Johnson.

I don't find him quite as annoying as Nisbo.

Aside from Marto, I don't think the Australian commentators are any worse than the Kiwis. I just think we're less used to listening to them so it is less annoying.

I find Grant Nisbett painfully annoying.

Well done to the Reds. Their best performance by far this year. The Pigs really set a great platform (away from the scrum).

That said I must say I was stunned at how limp the ineffectual the Blues were. Did they win one of their own lineouts in the first 30 minutes? They were walking in the defensive line, soft in contact (apart from Nonu) and egenrally lack lustre in everything they did. They improved in the second half but the Reds also backed off in the middle 20 of the second half. I cannot understand the selection Weepu as starting 9. His service was slow, and he offered no threat at all around the base of the ruck. Even his defence has slackened off so much that it looks like he retired last year.

I loved Lam as a player but surely this is the end of him as a Super Coach.

They're 1W 9L and outright bottom of the table, they've been like this all season. It shouldn't have come as that much of a shock surely?

Over the last games I thought they had improved their performances. Indeed their first games weren't bad, they just got beaten. This was their worst performance this year and it was stunning in how poor they were. Without Kevin Mealamu and the Myth to lead them there is no spine in that side.

Good to get the win, but disappointing to see us once again turn over the ball so often at the ruck. Without that I have no doubt we would have the extra point in the bag.

Great to see Digby and A Finger back. We must must must drop Davies now - he is clearly the weakest player in the team.

I thought Genia's kicking was very good, including the box kicks. (Harris not finding touch with penalties though - sheesh).

The reds chase on those kicks substandard. They lack for a useful chaser who will compete for the high ball.

Davies and Morahan struggle to judge and then get to where the ball is landing and even if they do the best they can offer is a tackle, not a take - and their tackling is not reliable.

Horwill and Genia need to adjust their mindset to include bonus points if they seriously want to get into the finals. Last night was opportunity lost.

Higgers was in everything, and he kept the errors down. I look forward to Bob Dwyer's kudos on Monday.

Genia was better, against a very poor local side whose defense was routinely sleepwalking.

His kicking quality ratio of good/awful returned to a least a 1:1, but not much more. If we continue with Morahan's and Genia's poorly executed kicks v Cru, we will pay heavily.

though Genia was better - real mojo in first 10 minutes
Simmons really stood up and was a force to be reckoned with
Higgers great as usual
Digby - jeez he got snmashed a couple of times but just that something extra
MOM player for me was Gill

definitive game for Reds and great to see a win in the land of Darkness - need a few more in quick succession and results of other games to go our way.

Always hard to interpret the excellent aspects of your side's win when the opposition was so astoundingly poor as last night's Blues. They were worse last night than they were against the Rebels, is that possible? Bar say Nonu's tackling, what was there to compliment, even if you went looking with a searchlight?

I said prior to the game that if our defense did not improve we'd struggle to beat all but weak teams at home. Well, for me, the three positive highlights from last night's game: our defense was back to something approaching 2011's standards and as such made a crucial impact upon the result; Lucas played well to very well which got our attack up above its preceding 5/10 standing towards a 7; Higgers and Gill get better and better.

Negatives: Harris, merely adequate at 12, and OMG what has happened to his kicking? That error rate will surely hand Cru victory should the next game be close. Our mid field kicking is still poorly chosen, executed and chased. Davies has totally lost his 2011 S15 confidence and some skill and must be dropped (assuming we have replacements). And as Scotty has said, we getting turned over too often. Finally, that we could not mount a charge for the BP try vs a team if this deficiency was a sign of our team's still flawed attacking ability and low inner confidence.

Major improvements will be required if we are to stand and deliver next game v Cru. That game will teach us much more as to our (and our coaches') real 'recovery' status mid-comp.

Oh, and the relative success of our starting backrow last night just invoked the obvious question: why not it v Stormers (when particularly Samo was a disaster at every level, etc.). Would have made a real difference. Our coaches are showing odd frailties in many of their calls this season.

I still cant believe they didn't go for the bonus point.

I would have taken a quick tap and just peppered the line until we got over. Worst case scenario we make an error and the blues do a clearing kick into touch before the halfway line.

Yeah, the blues forwards had just disintegrated, never a more perfect time for a scrum. I was mystified.
