If JOC (James O'Connor) was running at FB in the main team, then it is possible we will see Mitchell/Turner as the wings with JOC (James O'Connor) on the bench. At least I hope so.

Here's an idea, if you want a wanky fancy word thread, start one.
A few OT posts are cool, but we now have about a page of it, and this is the Bled IV thread. Not fair for those who read this thread to discuss the team and the game.
Now if you can make the word relevant...

Media asked for help to keep team line-ups secret NZPA - October 21, 2010, 6:46 pm

All Blacks assistant coach Steve Hansen is hoping media will be patriotic and help keep the team's selection plans out of the public eye until the Thursday of the test matches. The All Blacks have traditionally named the team on the Tuesday before the test match but Hansen confirmed they would not name the team on this tour until Thursday.

"We were asking ourselves why we give the opposition so much time to sit there and know who's playing and analyse us. It was making their job easier," he told media today. "We don't want to give them an easy break. Some people might say we've been a bit picky, but we want to give it a try and see how it goes."

Hansen also said the team management was likely to call upon the patriotism of New Zealand media members to help with their strategy. This could involve asking media not to report on which combinations of players were running together in training, which could suggest what the likely team was.

"Yes, you'll know who's playing by how they're training and (we'll be asking you) basically keep that to yourselves and writing your stories and reporting your news reports without absolutely coming out and saying well, this is the team," he said. "We're all New Zealanders and we're all in it together so I think we all want the same thing, so we'll work through the issue of that with you guys and that shouldn't be a problem."

Hansen said the Thursday team naming experiment would be assessed at the end of the tour before management decide whether to continue with it for 2011.

@Muttonbird, there are a few mistakes in the quote. It should read "we are likely to call upon the patriotism of G&GR members to help with their strategy. This could involve asking members to report on which combinations of players were running together in training, which could suggest what the likely team was."

Yeah. Steve Hansen's tactics leave me a bit cold to be honest. He's the attack dog and mind game strategist for the All Blacks and it would almost certainly have been his idea. Somehow I thought the IRB had rules about when you had to name your team before a game. Anyone?

Having said that, I'm still more loyal to NZ than to G 'n' R Rugby - but only just.

Interesting piece that. Considering almost all of the media around the AB's on this tour is going to be Sonny Bill Williams focused, I really can't see the first journo to see him traning in a startig position keeping his gob shut. God knows, I wouldn't.

I've fallen into the hype too, which is a bit sad. Will be at the match obviously, and I'm really hoping SBW gets on the park to see how he goes in the flesh.

Will be an interesting match which I don't think will tell anybody anything. Both teams will be rusty as all hell, with alot of the players last decent hit out being against one another a few weeks ago where we snatched victory from the jaws of defeat (or more apt, the wobs snatched defeat from the jaws of victory). I wouldn't be surprised to see either team fly out of the blocks a bit recklessly and give a way a lot of ball due to stupid mistakes - it'll be interesting to see who can capitalise on that the most.

MR pick for the winner? Well, I know the loser will be HK rugby with only about 50% of the tix sold.... But I just have this feeling the good guys (that's the cheating darkness or whatever you guys have voted for btw) are going to get up and storm it by 10-12 (Carter playint). SBW to get on the paddock about the 60 mins & create chances but also be a bit sloppy.

Anybody else going wants to meet up for a beer, that's what PM's are there for.

.

Would a confirmation of SBW playing generate any more interest for local tix sales, or are the expats/locals not really interested in him?

I have the NZRT by 18.

Agree that SBW will probably be a bit sloppy but think he will only get 10-20 minutes off the bench.

2010 John Eales award winners:

And the John Eales medallist for 2010 is......
David Pocock - 269 votes

Followed by:
Matt Giteau 193
Quade Cooper 146
Rocky Elsom & Kurtley Beale tied on 138
Nathan Sharpe 114
Wycliff Palu 113
Will Genia 111
Adam Ashley-Cooper 101

Of the top 9, all except Palu are fit for Bled IV, and are almost guaranteed run on positions.

So much for all of those who anticipated Gits warming the bench.

At yesterday's final training session before heading to Hong Kong tomorrow, Davies again trained with the main team, indicating he is a strong chance of being chosen ahead of Drew Mitchell and Lachie Turner on the wing for the Bledisloe Cup Test.

Likely Wallabies team: Kurtley Beale, James O'Connor, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Matt Giteau, Rod Davies; Quade Cooper, Will Genia; Ben McCalman, David Pocock, Rocky Elsom (c), Nathan Sharpe, Mark Chisholm, Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, Benn Robinson

Those comments by Hansen are a little bizarre to me. They're the kind of weird utterances that we have a go at Deans for, but then again I'm about a -100% fan of mind games.

Nobody gives a shit here mate in the slightest about the game, let alone SBW. The interest around HK is simply further proof that everything to do with these "showcase" tests is a complete waste of time

I don't care about either, other than it is the next Wallaby match. Doesn't feel like a Bledisloe, and if we happen to win I don't think it will feel the same as if it was a 'normal' test. Oh well.

Anyway, to the supposed Wallaby team. Whilst I am very excited to see Davies get a run, I feel bad for Lachie Turner having played so well in the last test. Part of me thinks you need to repay that form, but a part of me also thinks that Deans wanted to pick Davies earlier in the season but he was injured. He's fit now, Deans reckons he's a better winger than Lachie, so he deserves his start. Harsh on Lachie though.

A kick in the teeth for Mitchell too. Though brilliant at Super level, he was again very inconsistent at test level this year. The next Joe Roff?

It'll be a good thing come next year having to chose a back 3 from a fit Ioane, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Beale, JOC (James O'Connor), Davies, Turner, Mitchell, Hynes... potential for Chambers, Gerrard, Huxley and co to have a big year next year leading up to the RWC and put some pressure on too

I wonder if we won't see JOC (James O'Connor) start at fullback with Beale on the bench.

I can't believe Davies would just slot straight in so team could look like those attached.

Not saying that would be right, just trying to work out what Robbie might do.

But Roff has so far been the greatest Wallaby winger of the pro era... he wasn a incredible Wallaby...
