I started out at 13, and moved to 7. But I was playing for the Buggerup XV 4ths, so not quite the same. As Scotty says ^.

The point is, he doesn't look, play, think, smell like a wing. And I can't quite fucking believe the whole thing, quite frankly.

I started at prop, moved to wing for a few seasons(was actually the leading try scorer at Sunnybank Rugby in a certain year) and found a happy medium as a backrowrer later in life ;)

I've never heard of this startong at wing process. I think what you are observing is that players start out fast and get slower and bulkier.

Yeh exactly. When Umaga, Mortlock, Gerrard etc started their rugby careers as wingers. They were out and out wingers already, and later as their pace slowed and experienced built they moved inwards (and also because there were vacancies needed to be filled there). J'OC started his career as a centre, and then a fullback, and then a flyhalf, then fullback again, and now he is a test winger. And he ain't even that fast!

Gagger - you've misssed the point of my post. You claimed your little NZRFU grant bullshit, which is baseless crap, against somebody else & then when I posted my post - you continued it on. Hence, my comment.

Yep, it was senseless, baseless crap MR, because it was clearly a joke - you guys don't have enough money to do what I suggested.

It's your site, your welcome to continuously bring this up & your right, I don't have to read them & I won't. It's not because I "can't handle it", it's because there's enough kiwi bashing here already without venturing into threads specifically setup for this purpose.

Diagnosis confirmed.

The tropics have got to you MR, you've contracted Thin Skin Disease. Symptoms include delusional paranoia when anyone mentions the all blacks in a non adulatory manner, and fits of rage.

One of your self imposed flounces off ought to bring some relief

Was Jim Williams a winger or is that urban legend? Maybe JOC (James O'Connor) will turn into a rampaging Number 8...

Jeebers, I have a busy day at work, and come home and everyone has gone feral!
Can't wait to see the form on the live call tomorrow night.
I blame the powers that be for depriving us of enough quality rugby about which to wang on over the last month or two.
Or Paddy O'Brien.

Ah, but he is. He is one of the faster players in the squad from what I understand.

Is he "really fast" - looks fast, is fast, such as Davies, Turner?
Is he "deceptively fast" - looks slow, allegedly is fast, such as Hynes, Carter?
Is he "deceptively slow" - looks fast, is a slug, such as Gerrard?
Or just like Ryan Cross?

Jim started as an outside centre for the Dogs and was 'recruited' by the Rats in that position. When Jim started to slow down he shifted to the back row.
Maybe JOC (James O'Connor) will end up at 7 ???

We will have another "Scotland" experience if we do not make sure that the top 15 (as defined by the fifteen picked this week) do not get at least one full test off this tour to freshen them up. By that I mean that they miss the game or play from the bench.

I think that dirt trackers who perform well in the Leicester and Munster games will be rewarded for the Italy test. Yeah I know we didn't scrub up too well against Italy 2 years ago and were even worse the time before that; so we shouldn't take them lightly. However I would start 5 or 6 players who weren't regular starters against them, though I would start our best props.

I doubt if it would serve to change the Hong Kong starting team against Wales and England unless poor form demands it or a bench player, or new starting player against Italy, puts forward an irresistible case.

Whatever - but the best 22 has to play against France, the best team in the NH and one which will be getting better in the next 11 months.

I don't think we can equate the 2009 Scotland result to exhaustion. We should give credit to them for playing to conditions they are used to brilliantly and tackling like demons. Sure our lads (except Palu) didn't play well, but that was principally because of them and the congenital lack of greasy/wet weather skill of Oz rugby players.

If the games at HQ or MLS are wet games we will be just as challenged as at Murrayfield last year, despite our guys being fresh.

Interesting point: will Wales back themselves and close the roof if bad weather arrives - or do what they did on one tour (2002??) and leave it open before the game. They've got some expansive players but they may weigh up our inability in wet conditions and have Stephen Jones Jonny us.

Thought I had read somewhere that he was one of the fastest players in the wallaby squad. I could be wrong. I think it was something posted here about a twitter comment?

Anyway, could be an interesting video analysis thingy - who is the best wingers positionally, speed-wise, in defence, etc? I have no idea how to do it though.

That'd be a bit ridiculous given the fuss they made over Scotland refusing to agree to closing the roof for the Wales v Scotland 6N match last year. Which doesn't necessarily mean they won't do it anyway.

Dingo knows JO'C is the next great Aussie 12 - post RWC and Giteau. In the meantime wants his freakish man-beating skills on the park and to rack up the tests, hence winger, or full-back, or where-ever the fuck he can fit him in.

Ah, but he is. He is one of the faster players in the squad from what I understand.

If we're talking about JO'C he was run-down by Kankowski in Brisbane when he even had the head-start. That's no excuse and was within the first 40m so I doubt he's the fastest in the squad over 40m

I knew Dingo was keen on him, but...
