The caption to the video in a story about Kaino.

"Ian Foster says Ben Smith will not start against Australia in Wellington, leaving the door wide open for Rieko Ioane, Seta Tamanivalu and Anton Lienert-Brown."

Haven't found anything more so far. But if there's anything to it I'd imagine that there'd be a story soon.

EDIT: So I actually managed to watch the video now and, to me, it seemed as though Foster was saying that Smith isn't an option to start in the midfield.

Do you know why?

If you mean "why isn't Smith an option to start in the midfield" the answer is that it messes with the two fullbacks & a finisher back-3 we've been using, somewhat successfully some would say, for the best part of the last 20 years..........

It appears to say that Ben Smith isn't starting

Please not 12. Last time he played there he was shit (Argentina TRC 2015)
Its 10 or nothing (except maybe fullback)
Was that when he came of the bench for To'omua about 5 minutes in? I think that was actually 2014 because that's the game we lost in the height of the Beale/patson drama.

Possibly the bigger implication of quade being at 12 is that it means foley is still at 10. Aside from other issues that's very weak defensively and I don't think many would see it happening. Now that it's mentioned though, if kerevi is at 12 and folau is at 13 then quade at 15 is actually a pretty good option.

With our wing stocks at an all time low I found it surprising Digby Ionae signing for a NZ super rugby side as surely with ARU top ups he would stand to earn way more playing for an Oz super rugby side. What have I missed?

Bad caption-writing as far as I can tell, can't find an actual quote where anyone says he won't start, but a couple where Foster (?) rules him out as a midfield option. So:

9. ASmith
10. Barrett
11. JSavea
12. Fekitoa
13. Tamanivalu
14. BSmith
15. Dagg

21. Perenara
22. Cruden
23. Ioane or Lienert-Brown

Arguably the weakest & certainly the least-experienced backline we've fielded in a very long time.

Rumors that QC (Quade Cooper) could start at 12 to keep Foley at 10. It's a joke! Why Cheika can't drop Foley? He has compromising photos of him? Ridiculous. Foley MUST see some games from the bench. He's one of the worst players ATM and I like that guy (Especially the 2014/15 Foley)

Why shift players all over the show? B Smith is better fullback or wing. I have no doubt he could cover 2nd V or centre if he had to. I would rather start a newbie with some experience there, and if it goes to shit, chuck him there in the 2nd half.
I think he is starting. Just not at 12.

DMack not required yet?

I will be interested to see how Fekitoa and Tamanivalu combine. Attack Ok, defence is the question.......but then again I will caveat that question with "if they are required in defence".

I have to ask, who is potentially next in line for the centres?

You will never make a Wallabies coach! What positions they play is irrelevant, you just pick the 15 you like and make them fit!

Seriously. I like your thinking and it builds depth and maximises the opportunity while mitigating the risk (as best you can) that will need to be taken on a rookie player at some point.

I think DMac will be taken on the road trip & may get a start v Argentina, or at least come off the bench. Certainty for EOYT, surely, tho.

I have no idea who the next in line for centre is & sincerely hope we don't find out any time soon. Big raps on Beaugan's little bro, tho..........

Unless you have some sources it's probably just emanating from the same article I put up above. Cheika basically says it's an option (among many others) and the journo has created a 'QC (Quade Cooper) at 12' story out of it. However the 'leak' would suggest that quade is in the starting side.

Someone help us if Quade and Foley are both in the starting side. Even the weak AB centre pairing would be able to exploit those two...

So Simmons averaged 16 inches per run and Douglas averaged 33 inches. Sounds like Douglas was the star performer. :)
Where do they measure the start and stop from? If you fell forwards in a tackle you should cover 33inches.

I hope you are not looking for any sympathy as we would love to have the back up options the All Blacks have to replace players....instead we start considering former past failures or those with so so credentials (let alone not being able to field a specialist winger) in the merry go round revolving door.
