Ballymore Redevelopment

Do visiting teams still get sent out to the Grammar fields these days? I remember seeing the ABs out there but unsure if that's changed?
Wales visited when I was at Grammar many moons ago as well. They actually train at the school practice ovals as opposed to the playing fields because it’s very close to the hotels in the cbd and the sport centre at the school is perfect for all the s&c stuff as well.

A bit of both, but I believe making the trek out to Northgate is favoured now given number 2 oval has been turned into a carpark

My discomfort is not based on borders. I'd hope the resulting income justifies the discomfort.
Even if NSW didn’t pay $ this time, it’s a long game to improve the perception of Ballymore as multi-sport.

Just like having the Roar based and training at Ballymore. Petitions by football fans to the state government to upgrade Perry Park have been met with rebuttals from ministers by highlighting that football teams such as the Roar, currently have needs met by using Ballymore.

Understanding does not make it less comfortable, Adam.

I can't say I share the discomfort, Dru.
Surely, any discomfort from tribalism/parochialism from NSW training at Ballymore is better than the discomfort Super Rugby teams south of the border have faced with recent events.

Any move to improve the QRU's financial viability improves my comfort, even if that means using the NSW Origin team as a political pawn.

The All Blacks often train at the Terrace fields out at Tennyson. My understanding is that they book out a few different options then show up at one to avoid the media turning up.

Tennyson is ideal as they put a security guard on the front gate when they're there & no one can watch them train.

Absolutely yes. Ballymore was, for a long time, a huge drain on the Reds. Now it’s a significant asset.
Rabbitohs, Raiders and Warriors all trained there during Magic Round.
Gets the money in to pay for upkeep and keeps a multi-sport Ballymore front of mind for the politicians who will have to pay for the Eastern Stand.
A very good call.
A far cry from the stupid Dick Marks/Peter Lewis plan to misuse Government money on renovating the old McLean Stand. which was rightly put in the bin.

Not exactly Ballymore, but in keeping with the broader Olympic venue discussion, Brisbane City Council have agreed to a new plan for Crosby Park after the original Olympic precinct was cancelled:

lack of 7's Gold Medal at the Olympics would have done a bit of harm to the redevelopment funding hopes for the Eastern Stand

Hopefully not. While sad that the girls couldn't get it done on the day - it doesn't diminish their incredible season and years of sustained success and growth. Men's team also over performed based on expectation. Would like to think that decision makers would look at the whole picture of what benefit this investment would deliver, rather than the outcome of a single day of rugby.

It's nice to think, but a photo opportunity with a gold medallist is worth more to a politician than someone without. Likewise, it's easier to justify funding for a program that delivers gold medals rather than one that hasn't delivered a medal since Rio. My understanding is some of the AIS funding distribution is directly related to the chance of the program delivering a medal as well, so every chance that might drop off in the next cycle.

Hopefully funding still gets pushed through, but would have been an easier sell with some gold medals to show off

thats actually a lot of money to develop a business case - not a lot to develop.
How about QRU takes the mil to develop the "business case'...

It’s for sporting precincts in the electorate, so won’t be limited to just Ballymore but Ballymore was the major focus it seems

It'll never happen. They don't have the facilities for corporates. Would be good for some preseason games, they do need to make sure they have enough staff on though. Can't have people waiting for half the game to get a drink.
