Not naming any selections but a few great players have missed out to ensure there is bloody diversity in the team !! The best 23 should be selected not a team meeting a quota !!

@Cattledog, they named 23 of the 26 player touring squad today. 3 names are still TBA (possibily waiting confirmation on injuries etc).

Players selected to be shadow will be receiving letters from ASRU soon.

Thanks HJ yes damned if you do and damned if you don't. Take a few extra players because your worried about injuries and then you don't use your warm up games for developing combinations. However, get a couple of injuries and your reaching for the number for the nearest flight centre!

The number of locks named is a bit weird? Who's injured? To name 23 players but only one legitimate lock is a little strange.

Very interesting 3 x Vic and 3 x ACT good to see players get a chance at higher honours, even if someone has pulled some strings here to get the 6 in. I just hope when all 26 leave school they continue to play club rugby because this is where some of the above players need to show other players how good they are and help deliver better rugby after leaving school into club land. I just hope like usual they don't disappear to do other things or another sport. Good luck to the selected players and into the future with their rugby because the disappointment from players missing out on competing at the ASRU Nationals and also the players who had the opportunity to compete this week will be improving to get better, stronger and show the selected players when they next play them in school or in club rugby next year, how they have improved. Hence why I am "Loving Jnr Rugby"
The problem here is not what a great thing they've done by picking surprise players and hopefully they will stick with it after school, the problem is the boys like Porter et al that have missed out will be wondering why they would bother sticking with it after school. I can't believe that nsw2 gets only one player picked, who incidentally had one of the worst games of the week today. Good luck in NZ.

Guy Porter not selected is massive news

Looking at the numbers, with only one full back nominated, I think he is one of those three that they are waiting on for confirmation.

James Kane (Kings) used to be a useful #15 but is injured IIRC. Perhaps they want to see if Kane gets fit again, and if so, how he goes in comparison to Porter. If Kane rises to the occasion, then perhaps he may be the second #15, and if he doesn't then Porter gets the nod.

Are there any other quality #15's around in QLD or NSW Schools rugby injured ATM?

There don't appear to any Wallaby progeny in the squad, and Qld with 6 in the squad v their conquerors, NSW II with 1, would appear to dispel at least a couple of recently espoused truisms. Good luck to all of the boys selected and, in an HSC year, here's hoping they and those left behind remember that Heaven's game will rarely pay the bills.

I agree...disappointing to see some quality players miss out this afternoon. #15 from NSW1 was unlucky as too was #7 from NSW1. Both boys had a great tournament and even finished up with a try a piece in the finals today. I'm still finding it hard to come to terms with why their names weren't read out today!

The aru should at least try to get a few players in the schoolboys who will not be signing NRL contracts straight from school ? As happened last year and will probably happen again !! Given the dire financial state of rugby Why the hell is the aru propping up the much stronger rugby league !!

Congrats to Goddard. He must be close to be youngest Aust schoolboy picked over the years?

Also didnt see any games but 2 VIc centres? They must have dominated in attack and defence in all their games.

Interesting that from a sydney/nsw perspectivehis year knox, cranbrook, scots, riverview and st augustines have fielded strong teams yet no real flow through into Aussie schoolboys.

Anyway certainly a few from those schools featured over the last several days,
and played very well

So agree a few surprises , with guy porter one of biggest

Oh well there will be a few disappointed, but no doubt a few very happy /surprised?!

Agree Goddard a standout. Not sure about the other

Is there any injuries that ruled anyone out of the 23 man squad? I'm sure Johnnie Walker is one who could've stepped back into the side but was held back with injury.
You would have to ask the Selectors that question but Sione Tai (ACT) previous schoolboy hooker busted his ankle in the second game. Apparently out of action for 6 months.
