Given that in the more contentious issues she faced she would have been acting at the direction of or at least the approval of the board and the chairman, it's hard to escape the conclusion that she's been thrown under the bus quite unfairly.

Paul McLean said today that by December this year 75% of the board from December last year would be gone. A step in the right direction, but we need the remaining 25% to do the honourable thing and go too. Next we need to completely overhaul the structure and processes of the joint.

I think Rennie is cut from pretty resilient material. I doubt that he will give a flying fart about external opinions from has beens and never wases.

In principle the 13 man rugby review board sounds sensible but who controls the appointments is where gets interesting. I as per Australian want twiggy involved as yes with his team and GRR have pushed new ideas and this is what rugby needs is new ideas so I would want them involved / represented as they appear more willing to challenge the status quo and that is where we need more of and less of the north shore private school network dreaming of the Shute shield being the centre of the universe and future of rugby.

It's actually the north shore private school network which has chained us to the SANZAAR setup, grade rugby is well below their view of the world.

In fact it was a member of the said north shore private school network which told the clubs that they'd get nothing from the ARU because all they would do would piss it up against the wall.

Close Dismal although I have been advised the 4 independents include: Patrick Delaney, Michael Miller, Peter Campbell and Lachlan Murdoch.

Apparently all the Murdoch papers are apparently putting out press tomorrow about these being solid independent choices which is unusual. This includes editorial by Alan Jones saying this is right step forward for Australian rugby with these four quality independents to help him as chairman set the right course for Australian rugby.

In NZ our more "prestigious" schools specialise in offering scholarships to budding players from low decile schools and their old boys networks dominate the NZRU.
Sad to say Canterbury is a classic example of this nepotism and sense of self entitlement that tarnishes the game.

Actually any place with a First Fleet that locals trace their ancestry back to (& if yours weren't on it you're a blow-in) & either a big Boy's High/ College or boys-only private school esp a Church-affiliated one. So Cantabs, while definitely nepotistic & self-entitled, aren't the only ones (Nelson & New Plymouth spring immediately to mind). Wellington & Dunedin seem to be the exceptions, possibly because so many people move there from other parts of NZ then move away again (hence there's an ex-Dunedinite everywhere you go).

I can't work out whether this 'review board' is genius or madness.

I mean, it's another fcking review. We've done about 28 since 2003, but we're supposed to believe it's THIS one that is going to fix everything. OK.

But........ there are so many different warring tribes in Aussie rugby at the moment, that just getting them in a room to bang out an agreed list of priorities might actually work.

If nothing else it's pleasing to see mentions of women and WA in the initial list, though no doubt there will be plenty of 'good rugby men' from the usual corners.
