New Beer Sponsor, looking forward to having few cold ones

YENDA TIES THE KNOT WITH RUGBY
It was on tap at the Southern Inland Grand Final in Leeton last season - wasn't a bad drop... Good to see another new sponsor on board.

YENDA TIES THE KNOT WITH RUGBY
FEBRUARY 14, 2018
As excitement brews ahead of another action-packed season of rugby, Yenda has come on board as the official beer of the Qantas Wallabies and Vodafone Super Rugby competition.

Owned by the Australian Beer Company, the three-year partnership will see Yenda take part in the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Australian Beer Company Marketing Manager Stuart Boag said: ‘’We’re excited about this new partnership and to be able to share our locally-brewed Yenda beers with everyone in the Australian rugby community.

"Like most Aussie rugby fans, we can’t wait to get stuck into the Super Rugby season. There’s nothing we’d love more than to toast an Australian champion this season, whether it's Vodafone Super Rugby or The Rugby Championship – or both!"

Established in 2013, Yenda was named after its own home town located in the heart of the NSW Riverina which is also home to Wallaby legends Arthur Tonkin, Beresford Ellwood, Jim Lenehan, Ken McMullen and John Langford.

Now the award-winning brewery distributes quality craft beer and cider to Australians right across the country.

Rugby Australia’s General Manager, Commercial Partnerships Peter Sciberras said: ‘’Rural talent has always played a big part in Australian rugby’s success. Hard work, passion and teamwork are the cornerstone of country rugby and it’s great to welcome Yenda who share those same core values.’’

Bit of a step down really, maybe not in the quality of the product rather the ability to capitalise on the sponsorship, the problem with agreeing to terms with smaller companies is that they lack the market penetration and financial backing to capitalise on the sponsorship through their own marketing campaigns. Their's mutual benefits to a major sponsors marketing campaign when they leverage the team or competition.

^^^^ Coca Cola Amatil owns the Australian beer company.

I know because a family member who works for them gives me a case of Yenda each month :)

Indeed - they have a JV with Casella Wines (ie Yellowtail). Initially brewed within Casella Wines before ABC created in Dec 13 in conjunction with CCA. Former responsible for production, the latter for distribution. Good team - hope to see them do well in an increasingly crowded craft beer market.

Tough u20s draw for the guys at this years cup in France

New Zealand, Wales, Japan

Well their predecessors got beat on the field (and off the field) against Scotland in their final match last year.

Few criticised that and many observers called it a "meaningless" match. But, frankly, they got the result they deserved.

But he hasn't been given the flick, he's been kept on the Reds payroll so that no other franchise could use him.

If that is the reason then that is an appalling indictment of the whole structure of the game in this country. The honourable and desirable thing is to release him - perhaps they could pay him in instalments as they would be doing if they don't release him. Another side of this is Chieka's flaky decision making which comes through if you read a few posts on this thread at once. At a point not so long ago it was vital to get QC (Quade Cooper) back so they paid out Toulon. Obviously Cheika must have been consulted on that. Then Beale returns and Chieka decides he doesn't need a 10 on the bench so he doesn't pick QC (Quade Cooper) and goes all in on Foley not getting injured. (I'll leave out the bit where he shifts Beale from 12 in case he develops too much combination with Foley and/or looks like making his "one 10 in the squad plan" justifiable). QC (Quade Cooper) no doubt gets a bit pissed off with this as you only get one chance at a rugby career and Chieka seems to have used him so I can well imagine he might become something of a disruptive influence at the Reds (which I have no evidence of) so Thorn decides to make him the pin up boy for a new regime but then Chieka remembers his old pal, recognises that he's got one tried and tested 10 and makes sure that Thorn knows that Chieka thinks he's a dickhead for dropping the boy, realising (ok, maybe not) that he has so fucked up the Wallaby's selection progression that QC (Quade Cooper) may be his go to guy if Foley gets injured. Not a huge fan of QCs but this picture suggests he's been fucked over by experts in something of a spit roast.

Either you have a lot of inside knowledge, or you make a hell of a lot of assumptions IS.
Not saying all or any of what you're saying isn't true, just a hell of a lot of things there I haven't read anywhere else and, even if occasionally speculated, certainly haven't seen any confirmation.
Did Cheika decide that with Beal he didn't need another 10, or did he simply think QC (Quade Cooper) didn't offer him what he wanted?
Did QC (Quade Cooper) get pissed off and disruptive?
Is this why Thorn dropped him, or did he just think he wasn't the player he needed?
Did Cheika ensure he thought Thorn was a dickhead? This seems extremely unlikely to me.
Did Cheika decide he'd fucked up the selection process? I'm sure every coach/selector questions their own decisions, especially when the wins don't come, that's a long way from deciding you've fucked up.
Like you, I certainly haven't agreed with all Cheika's selections, however I think you're drawing a pretty long bow in your attempts to discredit him.

That is my take. We can play around the details through the recent history, but no way does it come out smelling of roses. Quade can, and I think should, simply settle into boxing and Premier until rugby sorts itself out enough to take him seriously.

When in doubt, go for the fark up every time ahead of the conspiracy or the machiavellian manoeuvring.

The more complicated the scenario, the less likely it is to reflect reality.

Fuckup or conspiracy, doesn't alter the established facts:

1. QC (Quade Cooper) was apparently enticed back to play in Aus and apparently encouraged by Cheika (OK some assumptions there, but QC (Quade Cooper) still had time on his contract in France and it is not unheard of that Cheika encouraged a number of Europe-based players to return).

2. Since his return, QC (Quade Cooper) has seen almost no test match time and the Wallabies have more often than not taken the field with no specialist backup No 10.

3. The Reds this year have to all intents and purposes cut QC (Quade Cooper) from the playing squad.

4. Cheika has been questioning, almost critical, of the Reds (read Brad Thorn) for their action on QC (Quade Cooper) and has intimated he would still be considered for Wallaby selection if he was playing at Super Rugby level.

The inconsistency exhibited by Cheika in this matter is mind-blowing.

Then I';d add the assistant coach for the backs. Though of course Cheika is where these things start and finish.

You'd have to ask how well the relationship is building between Cheika and Brad. If Brad cut Quade without having the courtesy to speak with Chieka - you wouldn't think it is building strongly.

Not really correct. While in France Quades Grandmother became quite ill and he realised how far he was away from his family if something happened to them. He decided he wanted to play rugby in Brisbane and set up a deal to make it happen. . He wants to live here and I wouldn't be surprised if he is even looking for another gig.

Do you mean that you WOULD be surprised if he's even looking for another gig?
