I think it was brumbieman or someone else from Brumby country advocating picking no reserve halfback and "praying" Genia doesn't get hurt.

I can understand that Genia's an 80 minute player. Not all reserves are there for so called impact, some are there if injury occurs and halfback is one position you just don't take a risk on.

To be fair, if George Smith is on the bench he could probably slot into flyhalf........

It would be a massive improvement on our current flyhalf.........

Interesting tweet from Fox reporter Tim Sheridan (not known for having the inside word)

George Smith to be on the side of the Wallaby scrum Saturday.

I'd start Smith at 7 too.

How does that weaken the line out? Palu took almost no ball in 2 tests.

I think that's the trio to go with.

How amazing will it be when Georgie Smith stars in, and wins his second Lions tour 12 years apart! Fucking pumped for Saturday!

Some witnesses at Wallaby training said that Smith was training at 6 while Mowen was having a rest........

Twitterverse is much easier for rumours to give the opposition false info.

No chance the replacement back rower will run training at either 6 or 7 then? With Simmons - a dedicated lock - on the bench. Smith might simply be replacing Gill, which would be a shame as his Hand Of Gill got us out of a tight spot there.

I don't mind Kimlin as a swap for Simmons, but taking MMM instead of another openside could lose us the game if Gatland does as expected and puts Tipuric or SOB in with one other on the bench.

Who is our backup lineout caller without Simmons though? Let's say Mowen goes down, what happens? Simmons has at least been with the squad the whole time, even if my opinion of him isn't that high. If the Lions smell blood at set piece time, it will be on for young and old, no matter who they pick.

I mean, he is George "Muthafkn" Smith but he's not indestructible, and the filthy red shirts will know they can just pin him at the bottom of a ruck and get a couple of quick balls otherwise.

As for picking Sio over Kepu... I think you've probably noticed by now that Kepu is coming on at THP and Slipper at LHP. So you can't replace Kepu at this point. Plus Sio is a boy and if the worst should happen and Robinson goes down early, Jones will be licking his lips at a rookie coming on.

In my estimation (and I'm a prop) Slipper should probably be starting at THP because Alexander is going to cop shit this week from Roman "Gallic Indifference to The Law Book" Poite. Its a real risk and I just rate Slipper a better prop on both sides anyway.

But its not like Deans will fuck with the status quo anyway. I fully expect the same tight five to run out, but Smith is the wild card.

Smith would only start at 7 or be on the bench.... Surely?
I would start him with Gill riding the pine with Kimlin.

Palu is a decent front jumper, replace him with Smith and it reduces your options. Your lineout will be contested more.

The mail on the another thread is George Smith is back. Not sure if starting or off the bench, but looks like he will be in the 23. Tantalising prospect.

Yep, step aside young Liam, we need the fairy tale to come full circle. You will get your shot to do a 'Smith' and back up in 12 years time.

I'm heading south for the decider & I think it's only fair that Deans not only plays MMM but also gives him a starting jersey seen as I've made the effort to come all that way.

Unfortunately I don't think Deans will make any changes to the team & if he does I think he'll not only play Smith but also start with Smith.

Yep Deans is going to start someone in the deciding test who has played no part in the series thus far. Oh and the fact he has played one Super rugby game in the last 10 weeks and he didn't even look very good in it.

That's utter rot. He was best on ground against the Tahs prior to injury.

Smith produced a powerhouse performance against the Waratahs, and was best on field until his untimely medial ligament injury in the 60th minute

Yep Deans is going to ignore his 110 Test cap world class flanker.

Smith shouldn't start though. So Gill's only chance of staying in the team is if Deans though Hooper didn't do enough at the breakdown in the second test.

Why not? He's a warrior at the breakdown, let him go at it for as long as he can, then bring on the fresh legs of Gill/Hooper.
