Australia A - Back on the Cards

How long is Blyth on a contract for?

I would be surprised if he does not chase cash overseas after missing out, the chances of him being a Wallaby now are pretty slim so he may as well look after himself.

Now I may have to choose a new second favourite Reds player.

Reckon there are a few more reds in this same boat.

Liam Wright, Harry Hoopert, Dane Zander, Feao Fotuaka, Connor Vest all not on the Wallaby or Aust A radar. With Super Rugby in the resume could all earn a good Yen, Pound or Euro.

Harry Hoopert is in the Australia A squad

Yes I think the short-term reality is we may lose some established players over the next few years who miss out on selection. Especially specialist forwards like props and second rowers.

Aside from the benefit of non-Wallabies playing more footy after Super Rugby, the other obvious reason is getting these blokes in a room together and making it clear they're on some sort of national radar. Anyone who misses that cut will naturally feel slighted.

It's a balancing act though, you'd hope the 21yr old bloke who debuted in Super Rugby doesn't run off because he doesn't get selected for Aussie A after 6 games.

it will be the 23-26 year olds with 30 games that will feel slighted and look to other pastures I think.

Outside of Angus Blyth can any of the Reds players really feel hard done by to miss out?

I reckon it's a pretty good squad and there aren't really any glaringly obvious omissions elsewhere.

Liam Wright is a tricky one. He's had a lot of injuries and has clearly fallen down the pecking order a substantial distance.

Wallaby squads have picked out-of-form players who were more of a liability than Wright would be.

His omission from the Aussie A side is a bit of a slap in the face I think, he's also got leadership qualities for these younger blokes to bounce off.

Maybe there is another reason? Surgery perhaps.

He's had a good season.

I'm unsure why Angus Blyth hasn't been selected though. Doesn't look like he played QPR last weekend so is he injured? That would explain a lot.
