Aussie Player Exodus

its like you only read the words you want to read, yes there are 7 hookers better than him & as I said there were 3 available. He doesn't deserve his wallaby's cap
lol.. You said there were 7 + who should have been selected ahead of him. I asked you to name who these 7+ players are who are fit and weren’t already In the squad, and you named mostly injured players on top of those already in the squad.

As for saying players don’t deserve selection, what a bitter thing to say about a player who’s just archived their proudest moment.

I’m going to come out and say Nasser selection was a head scratcher for me personally.

I’m nothing more than an armchair selector so my word doesn’t mean crap - but selecting the super rugby backup of the wallabies hooker makes you wonder about hooker depth at the other clubs.

guess it happen last year with White and Longren being drafted into national team so it’s not a unique scenario.

Anyhow congratulations Josh!

More a reflection of other clubs and injuries that the Reds reserve hooker is selected. As I said above, the only player who is actually fit and can consider themselves hard done by from that list who is; Uelese

And Uelese signed with Montepellier which effectively ruled him out...
which i was told happened in spite of being in the original Wallaby selection plans, rather than as a result of being left out. not sure of the veracity of this statement, others closer to the Rebels may know.

The Gold Coast Titans today officially released Tanah Boyd who was one of their key halves players.

They have also upgraded Carter Gordon to a full contract (I think this was always happening).

I have a feeling we will see Carter playing a fair few games for the Titans in 2025.

what’s his position in the halves though?
I think his better suited to 6 but also could see a bit of 7

man I'm still so bummed about this. I simultaneously want him to kill it and also fail.

Depends on Ben Hunt. He lands there it could be 2-3 years as his body seems fine even big in his 30s. Foran is near the end though. They then have Campbell and Brimson able to play 6 who need a spot and Campbell looked good at 6. They won't want to paying Brimson his salary to sit in the Centres... Fullback is Kini now with his breakout year and starting for NZ.

Might see CG during Origin time/mid year when injuries mount and they blood a few guys. Otherwise I think they'll be happy to let him keep playing QCup for a while.

He does fit the modern utility role on the bench if needed.

He should kick living shit out of that competition if he wants to. He's good enough to get a start in all major leagues around the world.

Lifestyle choice? Working holiday with the family in a nice part of the world. Feels like a place guys go to also get a start in coaching while also playing.

I have in the back of my head that maybe his partner is American so that could be it? Might be he doesn't have the confidence in his body long term anymore and doesn't want to move a young family to Japan, but to have given up a Lions tour year, wallaby top up and a contract that must be something like double an MLR one towards the end of his career he must have been pretty motivated for a change.

A lot worse places than SD you could land with a young family as long as your happy with the pay. Only 32 so he still has the ability to end up in Japan if he wants it but could play 3-4 years in MLR without falling off the pace. It's decent 1st Grade Sydney/Brisbane standard

That all makes plenty of sense to me, if the salary and perks are high enough - San Diego is similarly expensive to Sydney with all the cost of relocation added on. What I don't understand is why you wouldn't hang around for a year and see out your contract getting to play against the Lions, it's not as though that MLR opportunity would've disappeared for him.

Jed Holloway off to San Diego Legion, surely one of the most competent and in form players over there? He could be a Wallaby.

Definitely of the current crop of internationals, Holloway would be up there.

I reckon over the years though JP Smith and Billy Meakes would be the biggest Aussie names to have played in the MLR in terms of being a level above that competition, as both were playing in essentially their prime and they were easily Super Rugby level players when they left.

Strange one in that sense. Wonder if the Tahs and Jed have met in the middle financially.

SD coached by an Aussie (Manenti) with plenty throughout the side as well. Nice city, no language barrier and be at the beach with your kids and your partner is back in the US.

Good luck to him.

The other guy that was miles above was Vailanu even though it was prior to his Super Rugby playing.
