I've sworn never to go to Eden Park again (for many of the reasons outlined by @zer0) but I'd probably go to Quay Park, sounds like it'd have a similar vibe to Caxton St & Suncorp.

Never to go Eden Park again? It's a short train from Britomart. Heck you can even walk to it from the CBD.

Having said that - Quay Park looks good if they can somehow get it funded - get Blues, Warriors, new Auckland A League team, ABs, women's teams playing there. Brilliant.

^ Unless you're on a chartered bus Hamilton to Eden Park for a night game is a nightmare & getting home is worse. At least if Quay Park happens there's only one change of bus or train not two & it looks a much shorter/ easier walk (an important consideration when you're near as dammit 60 & have dicky knees & hips).

Proper intercity rail around the upper North Island (at least) would solve that issue, especially for a Quay Street stadium. Alas, the central governments either hate rail (as does NZTA) or are too scared to implement it.

Not 100% sure but I believe this is a privately funded plan. The land at least is owned by Ngāti Whātua who must be loaded, or otherwise have the ability to access plenty of capital. Though stadiums are expensive. Let alone one that includes a full precinct development.

Suppose the big question is who replaces Ioane at blindside. Suafoa would be an ideal candidate if he can get back to his 2023/24 form.

Otherwise not sure who there is in the current squad. Choat lacks the physical power. Ditto Segner. idk what's happening with Ekuasi following the Rebels issues but he could be a good candidate, if they could get him back.

Between Suafoa and Segner I think they're fairly safe. The physicality will just be directed through eight instead of six.

2024 Segner definitely wouldn't fit the role imo; he's better suited to openside. He could bulk up over the off-season so we'll wait and see. I do remain skeptical atm.

EDIT: Apparently James Thompson is primarily a flanker. He was solid filling in at lock at the back end of the season so could be another option.
