Looking at it from the QLD perspective the value for money was there. The boys were given raffle tickets to sell and they were allowed to keep the proceeds. Some of the more proactive boy's ended up getting reimbursed the majority of the fees. Putting 30 people including coaches onto a plane to Cairns and Townsville is not cheap.

That would seem like good value if everyone got the same thing, but let me assure you that taking 60 boys (sorry only 46 + coaches as we could only have one bus) on a bus to Bathurst and giving them $15 for lunch isn't good value when the squad contributed close to 40k. I understand that there is greater cost involved for those the live remotely but not everyone else should pay for that, the ARU should if they want to run the program. they might find more people want to participate in what is a very worthwhile program.

I asked my son were many of his friends from the JGC going to trial again this summer - trials still not confirmed anyway as S'Up has said - and he reports:

- A couple focusing on basketball or another sport
- A couple said too expensive, too far (where the training was from their house) and not enough frequency of training for the cost
- A LOT are doing Harold Matts.

Sorry but I thought I'd let you know that there would seem to be significantly less A-grade boys trialling this year.
However I stand to be corrected and I hope I am wrong for the sake of the game.

the ARU mantra used to be do your summer sport, not least because the more sports you do and become competent at the better you will ultimately be at all of them - and if you eventually specialise in rugby the better you will be at rugby.
They seem to have bought the league/soccer/AFL/cricket idea that you're either wholly and solely committed to our game or your on the outer

This was posted by Luke on Sunday 14 September, all dates have now been missed but the thing I loved most about this email was the piece I highlighted in red. i know i should ask Luke but can some here explain that to me.

Good evening all,

I am writing this email to confirm the trial dates of each of the Sydney Centres. Two centres have been combined at each of the trials for better logistical purposes. The trial dates are:

Sydney South and Sydney North
· 12th October 2014 at TBA
· 19th October 2014 at TBA

North West Sydney Cobras and Sydney West
· 12th October 2014 at Granville Oval (TBC)
· 19th October 2014 at Granville Oval (TBC)

PLEASE NOTE: Although your son has nominated for a particular Sydney centre and trial at that Centres trial venue, due to the selection process you may be selected for a different centre within Sydney (within limitations).

Times have yet to be confirmed but will be announced over the next fortnight. The coaching staff will also be announced over the next weekend. All this information can be found at http://www.nswrugby.com.au/NSWRugby/Community/JuniorGoldProgram.aspx. The Centre Managers have been announced and their emails can be found below:

Sydney North – Julius Ambat: Julius.Ambat@SESIAHS.HEALTH.NSW.GOV.AU
Sydney South – Craig Townsend: craigtownsend65@gmail.com
North West Sydney Cobras – Stephen Bevan: sbevan10@gmail.com
Sydney West – John Keane: keanej2@yahoo.com

You can also contact the District Managers for NSW Junior Gold, who are overseeing 5 Centres each:
Michael Magriplis (Sydney South and North) - Michael.Magriplis@rugby.com.au
Stephen O’Brien (Cobras and Sydney West) - Stephen.O'Brien@rugby.com.au

If your son can only attend one of the trials that is fine, however we would suggest that they come to as many as they can. If your son is carrying an injury at the time of the trials we would still like to see them at the trials. Finally those who have been selected for U16 NSW Schools or U16 Sydney Juniors DO still need to trial however the registration fee will be waived.

If you have any further questions or issues please send them through either to your Centre or District Manager.

Thanks,

Sorry, not too familiar with how this comp works. Can anyone go and trail for selection?? Or do you have to be invited to trial?? And I take it is U17 for 2015 year (so this years U16s are involved). Do the Sydney GPS schools allow their boys to play?? Anyone with any information, I would appreciate.

Don't need an invite.
U17 2015.
Some schools allow it but many do not and summer school sport saw some not permitted to participate, even though selected.

I've heard a couple of things about the JGC over the weekend that makes me think that the reason there are no coaches for a number of centres is that they haven't had anyone apply and they are looking high and low for people who can assist. I'm also hearing they didn't send the incumbent coaches, S&C's an email asking them to apply again or even a link to the application form, so a number of them have walked away frustrated by the process and lack of communication.
