Hard to apply certain spectator standards across jurisdictions.

Pitch invasion in NZ:
$500 for unclothed male invaders.
Warning only for unclothed females (provided that assault a player on the buttocks).

Pitch invasion in Australia:
$5000 and lifetime ban.

So I can save $4,500 just by flying from Australia to NZ to do my next streak? CHING CHING MOTHERF**KERS.

Most of the players get about a 4 or 5 out of 10 for me. The talking points I think:

Carter was getting belted at scrum time and didn't do much else around the park.

He wasn't helped by the back row not putting the weight on.

The people pumping Higgers' tyres are thinking only about the try. It wasn't a game for a wide-running 8, and he's not hard enough in contact. His prairie-dog act at the scrum gives me the shits, because he clearly doesn't understand his role in the set piece.

To'omua's loss disrupted our backline to a degree I suppose, but it was hard to tell how much because we had the ball sporadically and then lost it through idiocy.

We just didn't hang onto it enough to put pressure on Argentina and get Owens blowing the whistle our way. Taking the ref out of the game as an obstacle is part of Test rugby.

I actually think his game is affecting his captaincy. He is penalised very few times at the breakdown for an openside, but he's so busy trying to play that he doesn't set aside break times to have a word to the ref.

The best skippers don't talk when the penalty is against them, unless they are asking for clarification. They also don't try to drive a point home too hard when the penalty is in their favour - Horwill did this at the Reds and Wallabies and it was rarely successful.

They wait until its an injury break, or some kind of neutral ground, then approach the ref, and ask a couple of innocent questions. Usually you ask about your own team first to let him know you're open to suggestions. Then you point out that "my halfback said" or "my tighthead prop said". Plant a seed.

Most importantly, read a ref's body language and see if he's open for a chat.

I agree that hooper's not up to the captaincy, but there just isn't anyone else atm. I think I'm ok with him getting the experience there with the plan for Moore to take over again once he's back.

That was just about the most one-sided refereeing dispaly I've seen in a test match. I am not criticising the penalties given away by the Wallabies although some were probably harsh (eg against Izzy when he was pushed into the player with the ball), but there were certainly many instances where penalties should have been awarded to the Wallabies but weren't (eg Argie tackler on the ball carrier at the back of a maul from offside).

But imo the main reason the Wallabies lost was poor decision making when in possession, which wasn't all that often. Just too muck kicking possession away again. Phipps box kicking no more efeectively than Nic White, Foley poor kicking in general play pretty much straight to a opposition player and worst of all Folau's grubber kicks when on attack and the better option was to keep ball in hand.

On the subject of kicking, in his 20 - 25 minutes this week, To'omua did not kick the ball in general play once that I recall, and in his time on the ground Nic White didn't box kick at all. So the kicking strategy appears to me to be the game plan and is independent of who is in the team. Criticism should probably be levelled at the coach and his game plan rather than the players.

No, we're not.

You're right, it wasn't a game for a wide-running 8, and as such what I saw was Higginbotham adapt his game, playing much tighter than he often does (which is what people have been crying out from him for years). He was one of the few that ripped in.

No arguments about his scrum work though.

I do think the Pumas deserve a lot of credit, they played very good, hard, rugby.

We played like losers, frankly.

Talking about Izzy, I would like somebody to tell him that he would be a lot more of a threat if he accelerated as soon as he catches the ball in defence.

He has fallen into the habit of dawdling for the first few steps, giving the on- coming defence plenty of time to organise themselves.
Yeah knoticed Izzy do that as well, he needs a bit more McCabe in him.

I agree with Pfitzy, Cyclo and Kate, that Hooper isn't a captain (at this level, anyway). I hate the idea of "Co-Captains", Brisbane Lions AFL team had FIVE Co-Captains when they first started, pretty dumb stuff, IMO! Select a Vice Captain that would be less likely to be replaced if (and when) the Captain is, or send a msg from the coach "XYZ, take control".

Maybe we'll see Horwill and Simmons in Brisbane? Wouldn't be surprised. They won't change captains though.

I think that's probably the best option atm, with Carter taking a break, maybe playing some NRC but an actual rest might be better for him. I'd like to see both Skelton and Jones on the bench, potentially using Jones as a 6 to sub for Fardy. I think he's ready for another crack and a bit of self belief from the rising's good run might be helpful. Not sure how the rest of the team fits together though, might be dicey if we don't have a backup 8 with form at the back of the scrum, but higgers hasn't been covering himself with glory there, so it may not matter.

Its games like this we miss Mowens Captaincy.. He seemed to rarely get on the wrong side of the ref.

I remember one game the ref said said Ben sort them out to which Ben, don't you worry I'm going to tear them a new one. Then proceeded to spray the team in a huddle.

I think Link missed when he subbed on Skelton for Horwill. We are short on experience in the pack and a leader and Carter should have made way.

Horwill may not be at his best but he is a leader in pack. We missed that in the championship mintues.

One must remember for all the love of these other "leaders" they going missing in their own game at times, which is why they are not there.

Let's consider that in the 23 there are only 9 or 10 players that debuted after Hooper did. Leadership does not come down to one single player. Hooper is an inexperienced captain with leadership around him severely lacking. If the 12 or 13 players who have been around longer than him cannot maintain composure, what is he expected to do?

Worse decision Link ever made making him a Captain. I bought this up a few games back and was hammered. Glade to see there finally coming around...

Have you ever captained a team? I've done it a couple of times. One was my most enjoyable year of rugby I ever had. Another time it was a group that just could not be lead.
