Been some references to 1981 on the thread, here's a reminder of what went on:

"Tonight's test between the All Blacks and Springboks shows just how far New Zealand and South Africa have come since Eden Park 33 years ago."

The vid is uncomfortable (for me, anyway) but compelling viewing.

Thanks for that wo. Why did you find it uncomfortable? It was a very important time in NZ's short history.

The protesters won the war against a corrupt establishment which is uplifting to me, anyway.

Because we were meant to be better than that. I was too young to know much about the food & jobs riots of the 1920''s & -30's or the 1951 waterfront dispute so wasn't really prepared for the sheer viciousness of the Tour.

The footage of the protesters running down Molesworth St dressed as clowns with blood all over them & being chased by cops with US-style riot batons & shields was scarily like the riot scene in "Sleeping Dogs" and being even then a rugby nut it was hard to reconcile my love of the game with what was happening off the field.

Anthems and it's raining in Middle Earth.

Are we going to get many dry games in this years TRC?

The Curtain Raiser for the big game tonight is about to start.

Why is the Cake Tin round? Do they play cricket there?

I thought that the Basin Reserve was the Test Cricket pitch for Wellington.

Saffer just clocked Retallick as well. I think that they are out to show that they will not be intimidated by The Darkness. Nothing new from the Beef Eaters.

Test cricket Basin, ODI & T20 Westpac. Built to be multi-sport friendly, I think they've even had AFL there. And please don't call it the Cake Tin, the locals hate it & as it started as an Auck piss-take/ defensiveness over the shit house that was Eden Park at the time, I don't blame them.

3-0 good guys, territory must be 90:10?

Saffers get meat from Cornel Hendricks. No respect for the Aura from The Meat Eaters.

SAF 7 NZ 3. 19 minutes gone.
