You're not wrong that its parra-centric, it also contains blatant lies. I was more than happy to not bring up the details & just say Parra deserved their win, which they did, but when a report like this throws shit at predominately Newcastle teams I feel abliged to defend our honour even if it is just 7s so here comes the return fling of shit from me - with interest.
Here are the facts. The report said Parra did not concede a single try in the womens but they did!!! They conceded a try against my team Uni2 when our biggest slowest player (good player though) went over the line - I suppose the report found that too humiliating to mention. They also conceded x2 tries to our other Uni1 team from our 400m sprinter/winger who beat the opposing winger on the outside to go most of the field to score under the sticks & the youngest player in the team who needed permission to play (17 yrs old), our 15's capt converted the tries.
The Uni2 team had to play Parra when they were fresh, Uni2 was mostly made up of tight 5 full 15's players & had injuries, I was playing at Hooker with a sprained ankle for both games we played against them. The report failed to mention the Parra girls pushed the scrum before the ball was in, didnt know how to bind & had no concept of tackling below the neck on many occasions - but didnt get penalised. Despite that the first game they only put 2 tries on us. They then had the luxury to play our injury ravaged team again in the quarters but still conceded a try to our prop. They then played the other smaller but faster Uni team in the semis who put up a big fight & clearly had a pace advantage out wide & scored twice. On the final well you've heard the old saying that "the score doesnt always reflect the game" I wouldnt say Wanderers were "outclassed", as much as they are our rivals they put up a gutsy effort & were very unlucky not to have gone over for a few tries. I'm amazed at the scoreline because it didnt seem like Wanderers were far out of it all game. They did go over the line at one stage but were brought back, cant remember what for exactly.
Parra deserved their victory and having talked to them they are lovely girls, I'm not arguing with that, infact Uni was cheering for Parra against Wanderers - but seriously, it wasnt exactly as the report made it out to be. We were chuffed that we won last year but we werent spruiking a whole heap of lies about Sunnybank who took it to us & pushed us all the way. Oh well, cant let the facts get in the way of a good story. Hope they come back next year.
They are not from Newcastle but I'm defending Manly, who the report seems to think just got lucky - they didnt, they earnt their victory. Fact is that one of the Manly players was sent off just before extra time so Manly actually had to play a man down. I love a good attack but defence is what wins games, Manly had wonderful defence, particularly cover defence, they shut down a lot of Parras attacks out wide with wonderful tackling. Manly also had great counter attack. I thought Parra looked the much better attacking team but Manly constantly holding them out lead to Parra imploding, I could hear one of the Parra players blowing up at his other team mates despite the fact that they looked to have the momentum. I had backed Parra against a mate that they would win, so I ended up buying the drinks that night. Well deservd victory from the Marlins.
If it werent for an ankle injury I'd be rolling around on the floor LMFAO at the reports comment on "capacity crowd" there was a crowd but of the numbers that were there for most of the day by the finals only about 40% of the original crowd were there. Most had gone off to get "pissed", its been the same in prior years.
Whew!!! I'm dedicating too much time to worrying about 7s, thank god 15's (the real rugby) is just around the corner. Note, I had to correct the score info a few times as my coach was trying to sort out who scored & who simply kicked the goals.
